The album starts with the almost title track, "The Long Way Around", proving that the defiance the Dixie Chicks showed back in 2003 is still present. Musically, they appear to have taken a long way around as well, with their sound having much more of a folk influence than before and the latter part of the song particularly sounding a little like the Corrs. It's got quite a bouncy mid-tempo beat and proves to be a decent enough opener, with a pop-folk influence given a slight edge by the country sounding vocals. ...When we succumbed to the advertising and bought a set top digital television box, we were rather disappointed (an under-statement) to find out exactly what you get for your (one-off) payment of fifty quid. I can safely say that during the first three months the only thing we made a point of watching was "Long Way Round", which had already been screened on Sky One. My feelings about the book more or less mirror what I thought about the television series but I bought the book on impulse when I saw it on e-bay without having seen a copy in the shops. The "Really" Long Way Round.

Advantages: Fabulous journey, really enjoyable.
Disadvantages: Ewan and Charley moan a bit!

Long way round, a trip of a life time.

Advantages: exciting, you can really get into the adventure
Disadvantages: It made me regret not travelling, everytime I watch it I want to explore the world.

...fed up with this as they were exhausted and needed to rest, although it was quite amusing to watch. The team make their way through each country with plenty of adventure and tense moments but eventually they find themselves in the USA for the last long stretch of the journey. They finish their amazing tour by creating a large crowd of motorbikes, which they achived with the assistance of the Orange County Choppers, to ride with them to their final destination in New York. Once again emotions are running high as the team are reunited with their loved ones and there are tears all around. The special edition DVD of this series is ten episodes long over three discs. A Long Way Down? Only If You Take The Stairs!!

Advantages: Very easy to read, well written and very witty
Disadvantages: You might stay up to late reading it!

A Long Way Down, But Not Down Enough

Advantages: Portrays four very different points of view, very funny, touching in places
Disadvantages: A little too simplistic, which makes it hard to believe

Advantages: Entertaining
Disadvantages: Frequent & quite strong bad language

...a documentary like this before, this factor adds singificantly to the interest and I think most potential viewers would fail to be impressed by what they see. The viewer shares the 'highs' and 'lows' of the journey and few punches are pulled in the storyline. If you are a Ewan Mc Gregor fan, that's a bonus, but I feel that this is incidental to the story. As a TV series, I tried not to miss an episode and even owning the DVD set, it's difficult to get tired of watching it. This series really stands out from a lot of contemporary rubbish. As a viewer, you feel informed by what you see, but never patronised. ' The Long Way Round' is available in book & DVD format, whichever you go for, I challenge you NOT to enjoy it! P.S. There is frequent use of moderate to bad language. This is expressed naturally and not intended to shock or offend...
