Trading Places
Advantages: great fun for all the family
Disadvantages: none
...Director: John Landis.
Producers: George Folsey Jr, Aaron Russo, Irwin Russon and Sam Williams.
Writers: Timothy Harris and Herchel Weingrod
Stars: Dan Aykroyd, Eddie Murphy, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ralph Bellamy, Denholm Elliott and Don Ameche.
Released in 1983 this comedy, starring the excellent Eddie Murphy, relies on the greed of humanity to bring onto the big screen a somewhat hilarious movie.
**BRIEF PLOT**
When Mortimer Duke, (played by Don Ameche) and his brother Randolph, (played by Ralph Bellamy) decide to place a rather strange wager to quench their boredom they don't care about the consequences to the victims involved.
The wager comes to light when the brothers quarrel about how peoples backgrounds are what makes their futures.
With their loyal and long time employee Louis Winthorpe the 3rd, (played by Dan...

Best-ival Place!
Advantages: Great shops, all indoors, cinema and restaurants too, cheap car park, easy to get to
Disadvantages: None
...I live in a small town, and while we do have a good town centre with a decent range of shops, occasionally I like to go somewhere a bit different for shopping and a change of scenery. Often, our choice is nearby town Basingstoke and the indoor shopping centre called Festival Place. It's a place I do like to go, especially at this time of year with all those Christmas decorations that give that festive feeling, and somewhere I'd recommend if you get the chance to visit!
Although Festival Place is primarily a big shopping mall, the area also boasts a cinema, several restaurants, bars and cafes, a large multi-storey car park and access to Basingstoke town centre as well. The centre is easily accesible by car, train and bus, and all travel information can be found on the Festival Place website. We always travel by car as its only around...

Where the Lost Things Go? A Place Called Here . . .
Advantages: Hearing the 'authentic' Irish Accent; the abridging makes the story less meandering
Disadvantages: Some of the incidental plot nuances are lost in the abridging; have to change discs.
...I must confess that I was bought the Paperback version of this book first . . . my husband bought a "Best Seller" at the library that was being sold off for 50p and I read it the same night. It was one 'off the wall' book which really struck a chord with me, as my husband often 'tears the house apart" looking for something he mislays; and sometimes it doesn't turn up at all . . . . Or I am looking for a particular CD or Cassette, and I can find the case ~ but it is empty ~ Where HAVE all the lost things gone? Well, it's A Place Called Here according to this book by Dublin-born Cecelia Ahern. She's got some wacky theories, but this one is pretty amazing!
.
I really did want to hear this in the "original tongue" (Oirr-ish*) as it were, though, and having an Amazon voucher to spend, I couldn't resist buying the audio version...

Take your Break at Wake(hurst Place)
Advantages: Beautiful
Disadvantages: Gift shop expensive
...The other weekend my family and I had a day out and as the weather was nice we decided to visit Wakehurst Place. Wakehurst Place is a National Trust property in West Sussex and is also a part of Kew gardens (despite the distance!). The site is home to an old family house, wonderful extensive gardens, quarries, and even the new Millenium Seed Bank project. Wakehurst Place was a bit of a drive away from where I live (over an hour) but I'd recommend making the effort to get there even if you don't live very close because there's so much to see.
~~Admission~~
My parents are National Trust members, so they got in free, but not so for the rest of us. However, the entry prices really aren't that bad considering what you get for the money. Admission was £9, but they offer special deals for different size groups and it's free...

Would you like to trade places
Advantages: Funny, intelligent comedy
Disadvantages: They don't make them like this anymore
...This is one of my comfort films - the sort I put on when I'm not feeling very well. I have loved this film for years and it's always a pleasure to watch whenever it is on the television. The premise of John Landis' Trading Places (1983) is simple - do we get where we are through breeding or circumstance? Trading Places examines this issue in quite an exaggerated way but none the less is does make you think (in amongst the odd giggle) about what if life was different. The film doesn't even try to examine this idea in a clever or complicated way. You wouldn't hear anyone discussing this film and saying "ah but what the film is really about is" or "but this scene represented this idea" it rolls its sleeves up and gets right to the point.
I will try not to give too much away but set in Philadelphia in the run up to Christmas...

I'm Going Places This Year, Are You
Advantages: Good value for money, excellent deals, very helpful staff.
Disadvantages: Have to buy own food. Might have go tit cheaper if booked at last minute.
...I have waited to post this opinion until I had actually booked the holiday, which I did this morning. I wasn’t going to post it first and let you lot beat me to the Travel Agents! Ha! There aint no flies on carolinesite ;-)
Firstly, after writing my opinion about a cruise I had in 1995, I felt I wanted another holiday like that. I picked up a few brochures from the Going Places shop, and sat down with a cup of coffee. I was horrified at how much the prices had gone up in 6 years. They were asking about £1,000 per person for a weeks cruise and a week on land, compared to £650 in 1995. I know prices go up, but a 40% increase in 6 years is disgusting. I gave that idea up.
Next, I looked through the Airtours Summer 2001 brochure. I was mainly looking for All Inclusive holidays, as they are good value for money. I wanted...

Bad Place, Good Book
Advantages: A cracking good read, full of surprises
Disadvantages: You won't be able to put it down!
...I love Dean Koontz's books. I own a copy of each and every one of them and The Bad Place is one of my favourites.
The book begins as Frank Pollard awakens in an alley. He knows nothing about himself except his name, and has no idea how he got into the alley or where he came from. He only knows that he is in grave danger.
Over the next few days, Frank develops a paralysing fear of sleep because he keeps waking in strange places, with blood on his hands and with weird, frightening objects in his pockets.
Fearing that he is a danger to others, Frank goes to husband-and-wife private investigators Bobby and Julie Dakota for help. Their investigations soon lead to an evil and malevolent figure who is stalking Frank, and their lives, those of their staff, and that of Julie's gentle, Downs Syndrome brother Thomas, are threatened...

The Place to be?
Advantages: Convenient Location, Overall reasonable range of facilities
Disadvantages: Keen to raise prices though
...I've been a member of Holmes Place in Maidenhead now for some years. It's conveniently located for me near to work, so it's an ideal place to go at lunchtime to prevent me wandering around the shops and frittering my money on things I don't really need.
There are two types of membership - peak and off peak. Peak means you can go in whenever you want, and off peak restricts you to being able to go in any time during weekdays up to 4.30pm and any time at weekends.
Up until last month I was paying £44 a month for off peak membership. I understand that peak membership is £48 a month but this is for corporate membership. Membership is higher still for non-corporate members. I'm lucky, because my medical insurance now allows me membership at £25 a month peak, which is significantly cheaper.
As far as facilities go, it's not too...

There's no place like home!
Advantages: An intresting therory
Disadvantages: Couldn't warm to the main character
...about what it is doing to him.
He really feels that Sandy is the only one that can help and is really surprised that she doesn't show up for their meeting because of the amount of conversations on the phone they seemed to have made a friendship of sorts. So he decided to ask around the place they were to meet but nobody seemed to have seen her and then he finds her abandoned car with the file that contains the information he has given Sandy and her mobile phone. After getting no help from the police he decides to turn detective and find her himself, to do this he starts by using her phone to contact people in Sandy's life and starts to learn more about her and himself.
I haven't told you about the place she finds herself in when she goes missing as it would spoil it for you but it is an interesting theory. I mean let's be honest how many...
