Canon Powershot A400 - compact and takes excellent pictures

The camera has digital zoom and comes with 2 memory cards, a 16 MB and a 64 MB which is ample for a 3.2 MegaPixel camera and you can purchase larger SD memory cards. The camera itself is sleek and stylish silver and is comparatively small in size so is ideal for people who don't want to be weighed down by equipment. The main disadvantage (and its an important one) is that the LCD display is small compared to new models out. Leadtek WinFast A400 TDH, great budget card

Advantages: Overclocks well, handles most new games, good for 3D design.
Disadvantages: Size (large)

...to unlock 'coolbits' the program supplied by nVidia but needs to be unlocked to clock the card. A short while more looking on Google led me to find out i could possibly unlock 1 vertex shader and 4 pixel pipe lines. After over clocking the card to 400/785 i found that any more than that lead to a blue screen of death when testing in 3DMark05. I then set about unlocking the vertex shader and pixel pipelines, this had to be done using RivaTuner. It was a simple process and took seconds to do. After testing on 3DMark05 again i found serious Artifacts when the pixel pipelines were unlocked. However the vertex shader worked fine. ...As a long time fan of Canon digital cameras I was keen to get my hands on the Powershot A400. Having used the A310 for sometime, the A400 was an attractively priced upgrade and I'm pleased to report that with a little coercion Santa delivered the goods. So, four months down the line, what is my verdict? Firstly - compared to all other digital cameras I have used this is my favourite. I have used a range of cameras including many of the leading brands but for sheer 'bang per buck' value for money this camera is superb. Oh the beauty!

...This is a wonderful entry level digital camera. I put off the purchase of a digital camera for ages before I finally settled on the A400 after plenty of research. DO NOT be fooled by a camera boasting 6, 7 or 8 million mega pixel photo quality. Any digital camera is only as good as the lens it has fitted. Mega pixels really only count when you come to print your photos. The A400 has a good quality 3x fujinon technology lens coupled with a perfectly adequate 4.1 mega pixel resolution. The A400 is lightweight and compact enough to fit neatly into most trouser pockets, unless you still wear really tight jeans. The LCD screen is 1.8" in size, which is smaller than many digital cameras being produced today but is suitable to frame any picture and take video effectively. Superb and Inexpensive Digital Camera

...I recently purchased this camera before a holiday, and as with all Canon products I have found that the A400 is an extremely high quality product. Having never owned a digital camera before I found it important to chose a camera that was both easy to use and offered good picture quality. This certainally does that! Most camera functions can be figured out without the need to refer to the manual, as the buttons on the back are all nicely labelled and the on screen menu is uncluttered - but when the manual has to be looked at it is just as well thought out as the rest of the camera. Connecting the A400 to a PC is a simple job, too - all you need to do is install the software from the CD and plug in the cable. Picture transfer is quick and simple too. The only problems i have encountered with this camera are its excessive battery...
