Off to Starbucks!!!
Advantages: Solid Build, Strong Performance, Touch Pad
Disadvantages: Heavy, Over-heats, Only 2 USB ports.
...with you.
So, I was very interested to find out that nowadays, there are laptops that are specifically designed to ?replace? a desktop for those who want the space saving feature and would only need to take their laptop anywhere on the odd occasion. This means that the manufacturer can be less bothered about the weight of the machine and make it much more like the normal home system that the desktop has catered for in the past!
Enter the Toshiba Satellite Pro A30.
I hate to admit it, but the main thing that drew me to this model in the shop was the fact that its case is metallic dark blue. It really did stand out from the rest and I think it is a very classy looking machine. At the time I bought it, the RRP was about £1200 however Curries were selling it for £1000, so it looked even better value next to similar spec machines which...

Quality Laptop
Advantages: Fast Computer
Disadvantages: Not good for games
...'t care much for how my laptop looks, but this looks quite nice. It's not going to win any awards for the way it looks, but it's not horribly looking.
There is a huge advert style sticker on the wrist rest when you get it. I tried taking this off, quite a challenge to get all the sticky stuff off. But it is an annoying addition.

This is where the strength of the A30 714 lies. It has an Intel Mobile P4 processor running at 3Ghz. The mobile chip means it's designed to be used from a battery and in a laptop. You wont get the over heating problems that you might with a standard processor which some laptops have in them.
Using Intel instead of AMD means that the machine will be faster and more reliable. However...

The need for speed ... and here it is
Advantages: Fast 3.05GHz Processor
Disadvantages: Shared memory with graphics card
...The Toshiba A30 seems to have a number of configurations depending on where you buy it.
The various specifications differ and are exclusive to whoever is promoting that model at the time.
For example PC world had one system that featured a 40gb hard disk drive and 256mb RAM.
DABS.com had the same system but with a 60gb hard disk drive and 512mb RAM listed under a different product code.
All were Toshiba A30 but the last 3 digits depended on the seller, it seems.
Anyway, this particular system is the Toshiba Satellite A30-614 and I've just purchased it from DABS.com, the on-line computer and electrical store.
I purchase most of my computer related stuff from DABS because their prices are very low compared to the high street.
I already own a couple of notebook computers but they are sluggish compared to what is...

Samsung Blue
Advantages: Price, compact,ease of use.
Disadvantages: Re charging batteries can be slow
...I bought my Samsung AC-30 about two years ago as we were going on holiday to Lanzarote and I wanted a camcorder to record the magical sights of this island as the last time I went I only had an ordinary camera and you know what its like sometimes the pictures dont develop etc.
So off I headed to my local Comet store to view the various camcorders, as you probably know there are quite a few out there so it is hard to decide which one. My main point at the time was cost, I didnt want to spend £800-1000 as we were going on holiday.
I tried various machines but the AC-30 caught my eye mainly because of the price of £199 but it was also very compact and easy on the eye. It has all the things you need Zoom facility Long play/short play speed, all the functions for putting titles on your tapes and various other ways...

A balance between good and bad.
Advantages: Buses are more frequent than they used to be and new routes have been introduced.
Disadvantages: They often break down and aren't waterproof in the rain!
...First provide a wide range of bus networks around Devon and Cornwall. As I live in Cornwall I will refer to these services in my review.
As a general rule, the buses are dirty and fares have gone up in recent years. However, reliability has increased somewhat, and the frequency of some buses have been increased.
Another point to consider is that Cornwall seems to be the 'bus graveyard' of England, most service buses are over 20 years old, this means breakdowns are frequent- not good if you are travelling to Lands End on a 2-hourly bus, or in my case, late for an A-Level exam, as my bus broke down on the A30!
On balance, First serves rural communities well and tries to provide a good service with limited resources. Buses are also a good option for tourists, I would not recommend driving cars through the narrow streets...
