Derwent Dam and reservoir?
This enormous reservoir covers approximately 170 acres and reaches up to 35 metres deep. A small island lies in the one and a half mile stretch of water.
The reservoir and its enormous dam were made famous by the Dam busters ,(or operation Chastise, with Barnes Wallis and his famous bouncing bomb), during World War II. The Dam being very similar to the German dams so the RAF used it to practice there low flying raids.

Getting there?..
By Road:
Along the A57 Glossop to Sheffield road crosses Ladybower by the Ashopton viaduct. A minor road on the west side of this leads to Fairholmes. Approaching from Hope Valley, follow the A6013 north from Bamford to reach Ladybower and the A57...
Advantages: Peaceful, Beautiful Scenery Disadvantages: Requires A Bit Of Effort To Get There
...get to is Alport Castles. This is a place that I have visited many times over the years and I am always amazed that it still remains relatively unspoilt and quiet.
Despite its name there is no Castle at Alport Castles, and to the best of my knowledge there never has been. Instead it is the name given to an rocky area of Crags that lie just off the A57 Road, known locally as the Snake Pass.
The A57 is one of the main routes across the Pennines from Sheffield to Manchester, and takes in some of the most scenic areas of Derbyshire. The Derwent Valley and Ladybower Reservoir lie in the bottom of the Valley and as the Road climbs upwards (when travelling in the direction of Manchester from Sheffield) there is a well known Pub just below the summit of the Pass called the Snake Pass Inn. The best point to park to walk to Alport Castles is...

But compared to something even as simple as a Double Decker, the Nutri-Grain bar should be cast aside as a solo snack, as it's not filling enough and leaves you a little peckish afterwards. If you can find 3 for £1 at your local SuperCigs then yes it's worth it, but if your after something to fill you up as you missed breakfast your going to have to look else where.
Note:
The product contains Milk, Soy and Wheat (well that ones obvious) it's suitable for vegetarians and has Kosher Dairy status.

Advantages: Now Open Every Day 24 Hours Disadvantages: Mobile Mast On Premises, No Cash Machine
...I never really expected to ever write a review on my local Petrol Station because it is something that has always been there and I suppose it is the sort of place that I have always taken for granted.
However the inspiration behind this review came on Christmas Day morning when driving past here I noticed that it was not only one of the few Filling Stations that was actually open for business as usual in my home City of Sheffield, but that the Supermarket that is attached to this place was also open, fully functional and packed to capacity with people buying last minute items like Milk, Bread and Cigarettes.
This Shell Crest Petrol Filling Station occupies an envious location on the A57, known locally as Handsworth Road about 3 miles to the East of the City Centre. The A57 leaves the A630 here, known as the Sheffield Parkway, so it...
Advantages: A Great Day Out Disadvantages: Lots Of Enviromental Damage Was Caused During Its Creation
...I am very fortunate that I live only a short distance from the Peak District National Park which offers some of the finest scenery in England.
The Derwent Valley lies in the Hope Valley within the Peak District and connects three large man made Reservoirs called Howden Dam. Derwent Reservoir, and Ladybower.
I have visited this area many times and I am always spellbound by its sheer natural beauty, but beneath these dark waters lies a sordid tale of destroyed Villages and an Environmental disaster.
GETTING THERE
Ladybower, the largest of the three bodies of Water lies at the bottom end of the Derwent Valley and directly beside the A57 Road which connects Sheffield to Manchester. The A57 is known locally as the "Snake Pass" due to its winding, twisting nature and this route is one of only three major Roads which crosses...

Review of Sundown Adventureland
Advantages: Non-commercial family fun Disadvantages: Not really suitable for the over 10's
...not so fast and not very good but everything else is top banana!
Sundown is 6 miles from the A1 Markham Moor and signposted 3 miles from Dunham on the A57 (near Nottingham) but keep your eyes peeled to the left for the entrance, because you might whizz on by it :)
Telephone number is 01777 248274
This year, entrance is £4.75 for adults and children and the under 2's are free. It's worth every single penny!...
Advantages: Home Jeeves! Disadvantages: To the Orange Van!
...There was a story told by older boys when I was a younger boy about The Snake Pass, or to give it a more exciting moniker, the A57, which was a road that left from our village on the Cheshire/Derbyshire borders and took you over the moors of the High and Dark Peaks and over into the mysterious world they called ?Meadowhall.?
Hold a torch under your chin and join in.
A Husband and Wife were driving at night time on the Snakes Pass, through mist and low cloud.
Their car breaks down, and steam pours from under the bonnet, so the dutiful husband tells his wife to stay in the car, and lock the doors whilst he headed off into the pitch darkness to get help from the house whose lights were twinkling in the distance.
Several hours pass and the wife is beginning to get worried as the rain is lashing down and the car still won?t start.
