...I must point out that I am a big fan of Canon products from Cameras, Scanners and printers, so I thought this would be a cut and shut case of being a happy user... Having been recommended by the Camera shop and various reviews and bearing in mind my favour of the canon product I was extremely disappointed with the quality of shots, and the battery life of this camera I have both the A300 and 350d as alternative cameras and wanted something that fit between the two and at a reasonable price. Having returned the unit to my camera shop to clarify if the camera or i was at fauly from smudged photos and unclear edges around the shot we tested two units and found that in general the quality of the picture was not as expected on either - perhaps ruling out the issue of a faulty unit. Advantages: Light/pocketable high quality all purpose compact digital camera. Nice software
Disadvantages: Noise already at ISO400, Now replaced by A720is (but price will drop!)

...at wide angle less than 35mm (35mm equivalent) welcomed - Price less than 250-300 euro The G7 was too big (and expansive), not an option at all. The A640 was a possibility but I did not like the 4 AA batteries that make the camera bigger and heavier. When I went to Mediaworld (the local electronic shop) and tried the handgrip of some cameras I really liked the A710is as it was very compact, the case though made of plastic appeared solid, the viewfinder was pretty good(considering the size of the camera) and it mostly matched all my specifications. - Display (good) The display is a 2,5" LCD, brightness automatically changes according to the external light conditions (clever), resolution is 115K so it is average (could have been better). In bright light conditions, as most of the other cameras, the view on the LCD could be not easy... Read review

...When looking for a digital camera that I could take to Kenya on my Gap year, I was determined to find a digital camera that i could rely on. My family have owned a Canon camera for many years and the reliability of them impressed me. I however needed a camera that could take photos of great quality and in many situations. With many settings that would please an experianced photographer, the Canon Powershot A710 IS is also a great camera that is great for beginners. It's compact size is no compromise for quality or performance. I have found that I have been able to have the camera tucked away so that I can snap photos whenever and whenever. Regarding battery life, I was at first hesitant that a 7 mega pixel camera with 6x Optical Zoom would eat up two AA bateries in less than a day, but I have found that with Lithium AA bateries... ...I took me ages to find the camera with the range of features, size, and large enough zoom, but when I finally found one that met all the criteria, it was the Canon Powershot A710 IS. The picture quality is definitely good enough, especially if you use the camera outside in daylight. The video is also good, I take films of myself and friends playing football, and the frame rate and quality are excellent, even the sound is very good. I bought 4 2500 uniross rechargeable batteries swell as a quick charger and these batteries will last me weeks at a time (100- 200 shots +) so I’d definitely recommend buying those too. The zoom is superb considering the cameras size. Zoom was what I was originally looking for in a camera, hoping for 10x. ...the viewfinder the image you see zooms in and out, as you would see on the screen) - the A710 is one of the few of these types of camera's that is being made with a viewfinder, as now most camera manufacturers don't see the need because the LCD screen isn't as affected by glare from the sun. You can record videos with sound, with 5 different settings (standard, colour swap, colour accent, compact, and fast frame rate) It has 11 different settings, from manual pictures, auto shooting, to video. The quality of picture it takes is good. The neat design of the camera allows you to easily take pictures with one hand. Downsides: Battery life is pretty poor because it runs off 2 AA batteries, this means you need to carry around 2 or 3 sets of batteries every time you want to take pictures for an extended period. ...- Premise The A720is replaces the less than two years old A710is at the same if not lower price: around 220-250 euro in Italy, 150-170 pounds in the UK. You can see my review for the A710is here on Ciao.uk: that review 80% applies also for the A710is which had however some (minor) improvements which I will try to describe in this new review. I regret in advance if I will dedicate some sections comparing the A720 with its predecessor, this is probably of no use if you do not own the A710, but it could be anyhow interesting if you plan to buy a 2nd hand A710 or for people who are thinking to upgrade their A710. ...the shame!) had never heard of the place, despite it being rather grand and roughly a half kilometre, as the crow flies, from where they were standing! So, I'll attempt to help you find it more easily than we did... If you're heading in to Dumfries from the east, as we did, you'll come to a major junction of A roads, where you should follow the signs for the A710 (New Abbey Road), heading right, over the bridge, then straight on for a way. Here things went awry because it turned out that we weren't yet on the A710, we had to make a left turn on to it at a T-junction at the end of the road. To complicate things further, multimap told me that I needed to turn right into the place, when in fact it was on the left. I just checked it again and it seems that multimap has different ideas of the exact location of the post code than the hotel owners... Read review

...The PowerShot A720 IS is a updated version of the A710 IS and is the latest from Canon's popular 'A-series' of cameras. It is having 8 million pixels vs 7.1 million of A710.
