Light high quality compact digital camera
Review of Canon PowerShot A720 IS by
dsantachiara
Advantages: Light/pocketable high quality all purpose compact digital camera. Minor improvements over A710is
Disadvantages: ISO 1600 poor, Camera Windows software worsened, no wireless file transfer
...- Premise
The A720is replaces the less than two years old A710is at the same if not lower price: around 220-250 euro in Italy, 150-170 pounds in the UK.
You can see my review for the A710is here on Ciao.uk: that review 80% applies also for the A710is which had however some (minor) improvements which I will try to describe in this new review.
I regret in advance if I will dedicate some sections comparing the A720 with its predecessor, this is probably of no use if you do not own the A710, but it could be anyhow interesting if you plan to buy a 2nd hand A710 or for people who are thinking to upgrade their A710. A part this as the two cameras are pretty similar this review follows the footsteps of the previous one but I have also added here and there some (hopefully) useful additional comments.

Good base for Edinburgh & surrounding area's
Review of Mortonhall Caravan Park by
Adavies344
Advantages: Close to city, easy access from main roads
Disadvantages: Be prepared for Scottish weather
...For those who have read my other reviews, you are probably wondering why I flew to Edinburgh and then used a campsite. Good question and I was asked it several times. My only explanation is that I used Mortonhall while on a Motorcycling holiday a few years ago and liked the facilities. Add to that peak season when the Tattoo & Fringe festival are on and accomodation is at a premium in the city.
The campsite is signposted off the A720 city bypass Lothianburn/ Straiton exit depending which direction you are approaching from. Its no more than a mile from either exit.
On arrival you book in and are assigned a pitch depending on the type of stay you want, ie Tent, Caravan or Camper. The booking area also has a shop with basic provisions and accessories for caravans along with some camping equipment.
You will be given a map and directions...

thebigc1690
Advantages: lots of wide open space and beautiful animals!
Disadvantages: THE PRICES!
...also stop at Edinburgh Zoo;
900 - Glasgow - Edinburgh
909 - Stirling - Edinburgh
904 - East Kilbride - Edinburgh
BY CAR:
From the south - on the A1, A68 or A702
When you reach the City Bypass (A720) turn left, following signs for Edinburgh north and west. Follow the by-pass for 13 miles (from the A1), 11 miles (from the A68) or 6 miles (from the A702) until the end of the bypass. At the huge Gogarburn roundabout, take the right hand lane, and turn right, following signs for Edinburgh city centre (A8). Follow this road for approx 2.5 miles, going through Corstorphine. The Zoo is on your left, with the car park entrance just between the Zoo and the Holiday Inn.
From the south west - on the A70
Approaching Edinburgh, at the village of Currie, turn left at the Post Office following signs for Hermiston and Heriot Watt University. Follow...

Light and small high quality compact camera
Review of Canon PowerShot A710 IS by
dsantachiara
Advantages: Light/pocketable high quality all purpose compact digital camera. Nice software
Disadvantages: Noise already at ISO400, Now replaced by A720is (but price will drop!)
...cable, CD ROMs with full manuals and software, alkaline batteries (good for your TV remote control) and A/V cable. So the first thing to do after buying the camera is to get SD card (2Gb is advisable) and NiMh AA batteries.
- Conclusions
I fully agree with people saying that the digital camera (or more generally electronic components) turnover is getting ridiculous. In fact the A720is is already out with 8 Mpix (instead of 7), ISO 1600 (instead of 800), DIGIC III and other improvements. That means that quite likely the prices of the A710s could drop and I am sure that below 130 pounds (or 200euro) the A710is will be a great "value for money" camera. It allows to take high quality pictures and it has most of the features that both a beginner and a semi-pro user can ask for (considering its size and its weight of 270grams including...
