...If you're a fair to middling fan of ABBA, the chances are that you'll have at least one of their several compilation CDs in your collection. I suspect about 1 in 20 of the music-loving population probably has 'Gold Greatest Hits', for example, rarely out of the charts since its release in 1992. So, apart from the customary 'cashing-in on Mamma Mia' malarkey, is there really any point in putting this boxed set containing everything they ever did, apart from the post-split live set? For true fans - and I would count myself among them - yes, it's justifiable. Firstly, which albums are we talking about? It was released in the spring of 1975 and I recall getting it as a Christmas gift that year when I was 11. I had bypassed their first album - back then I only really got albums at birthdays and Christmas and I think my brief love affair with the Rubettes overtook my desire to hear more of Abba, despite the fact I loved "Waterloo" from the minute I heard them sing it at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. This song was the one responsible for starting the ABBA fever after this song made ABBA win the Eurovision song contest and the band eventually started to grab the first taste of fame. This is a great track that gives me the itch to swing when I listen to it. It displays the excellent blending of vocals of the band and great instrumentation. The Album: The ABBA Gold Greatest Hits album contains 19 tracks with the total running time of 76:25. It contains songs that made it high in the charts by the Swedish band members, though Frida actually originated in Norway. Advantages: Our true first taste of Euro pop

Pure Gold from ABBA as usual

...I have always liked ABBA since I was little - grew up in the 70's and 80's and therefore ABBA was part of my childhood before I became a teenager. I had a voucher/giftcard thing for HMV as a xmas present and decided I'd go for 'More ABBA Gold' CD Album, I already had ABBA Gold Greatest Hits, which has all their most popular tracks (won't bore you with those, as I'm sure you can guess what they are) so thought this would be the next logical step to listen to some of ABBA'S less well known tunes. I scanned the back to see what tracks (if any) I had heard of. Out of the 20 tracks I recognised (by name) about 8, although thought to myself if I listen to the album I might recognise a few more. Like ABBA Gold Greatest Hits you get a fairly good history about ABBA from start to end, but the timeline takes you through the lesser well...

I was going to do a review on their greatest hits album but thought it would be better just to do an opinion on them as a group, who can forget Agnetha, Frida, Benny and Bjorn, the fab four of the 70’s. I love Abba, that blonde thing, not the guy, the girl. I first remember Abba when I passed my driving test, it was April 1974 and it was the Eurovision Song contest and the group that won it had these two real eyecatching babes singing a song called “Waterloo”, what a great backside that girl had. ...O.K hands up all of you out there who own an ABBA song. Probably most of you do as this group was such a tremendous success in the 70's and early 80's. They produced nine albums and topped the charts as soon as they released a new track. I am too young to remember their first appearance in the Eurovision song contest for Sweden in 1974 (I was only 1 !!) but this won the competition hands down with hardly any resistance from any other country. The song was "Waterloo" which they played in Brighton on August 6th 1974. The four Swedish singers were : Bjorn Ulvaues, Benny Anderson, Agnetha Faltskog, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. The group got together after Benny and Bjorn met in 1966 where they were in different bands "The Hep stars" and "The Hootananny singers". Good old abba

...I borrowed this cd from a friend, and got hooked to abba's songs. Though already in their forties or fifties, abba members really live up to their songs. Young and full of energy, I especially like the "dancing queen" and "waterloo" and "SOS" songs. This compilation CD in gold is worth buying if you are a abba fan. It contains all the goodies songs and bring you nostagic times when the abba were famous in the seventies. To me, abba is the best swedish team I have ever come across. I hope they would continue to make some more music for us to enjoy....
