abbey national
Advantages: great company
Disadvantages: none
...Abbey are a fantastic bank that offer a lot of products under one roof.
Abbey offer a wide range of bank accounts, they have a current account which i have with them where i have a visa debit card, a cheque book and an overdraft on the account of £1000 although i have never used the overdraft and havent used a cheque for ages, you can pay in most stores through chip and pin with your debit card and use it all over the world at cash machines so this for me is a great account.
Abbey offers a specialised account for people aged 11 to 15 years which has a cash card for with drawals and has an interest payment of 6%pa but you do have to make a payment into the account once a month but there is no fixed amount you have to pay in so you could pay as little as £1, i think this is a great way of giving a teenager the chance to be...

Abbey National
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Robbers, none existing customer care, bad attitude and bad service.
...Abbey National is the most difficult bank to deal with. Their customer care is very poor and they are even rated as one of the worst banks.
When we decided to open another bank account we found Abbey to be the most conveniently placed. So my husband and I went to open a bank account with them. They seemed very nice and glad to have us as customers. The bank was very neat and tidy. I never realised that what would come later would put me off this bank for the rest of my life.
The problems started when I found only £30 in my account yet there should have been more money in my account. Abbey had not informed me that we had gone over the overdraft or that indeed they were going to take any money out of my bank. So later that evening I phoned the bank to see if I could sort something out, it took about half an hour to get in...

Abbey national
Advantages: friendly
Disadvantages: low interest
...I think that the staff there at Abbey national are quite nice ther but I think the actual design or layout of the department needs to be improved. I think when I walked in I did not really feel comfortable there and this lead me to not like the place that much. They do not offer a very higher interest rate there, this was a definite put off because I searched around other building societies and found that they offered a higher interest rates so I abandoned abbey national. I don?t recommend it if you want high interest for your savings....

Abbey National*updated please read*
Advantages: branches in every high street
Disadvantages: none yet.....
...for e-banking, order chequebooks and pay in cash or cheques. This is very handy to me, and these Abbeylink machines are also available at supermarkets and outside any branch. Just where you need them.
They do an Abbey credit card (Visa) at a good rate of 0% apr on purchases and balance transfers, but after a few months it goes up considerably. Although when it goes up, the rate is not as high as banks such as Barclays or Lloyds TSB.
I got an ISA from Abbey, as they were reccomended in the money section of the Sunday Times, as they had a good rate.
On Mortgages, if you dont make a saving after swithching your mortgage to the Abbey, then they promise to give you £50. Theres confidence for you!
~~~PRODUCTS THEY OFFER~~~
Abbey National pride themselves on the range of products they offer, and these go from mortgages, and plain...
Student Account at Abbey National
Advantages: Convenient, safe, friendly service
Disadvantages: Not featured in majority of campus bank units
...Students, I’m sure you’re aware, are fraught with money trouble. What with extortionate tuition fees and living costs to pay, not to mention the weekly dilemma involved in deciding whether to buy that textbook or a round of drinks, students need a stage for their financial drama complete with suitable props and cast to help make it a smoother performance all round. There are a variety of student bank accounts tempting you with cheap gifts, cash, or even inflatable chairs! But air-filled furniture isn’t going to pay the bills now, is it?
This is why you need a dependable and secure account to keep your mind from your financial blues. And hey, I’ve found one! Abbey National may not be the most popular choice amongst students, and there are some disadvantages, mainly branch accessibility, but I’ve found that...
ABBEY NATIONAL STINK
Advantages: NONE
Disadvantages: WON'T NEGOTIATE
...I had been a customer with the Abbey for over 15 years, and for the last 7 had been having my (very good) salary paid in monthly. They had always been really great, offering me loans, credit card and upping my overdraft when I'd spent too much to avoid bank charges.
In January 1999 I was made redundant - at the time I was 8mths pregnant, so the chances of me finding another job at the time were nil. However, because I had an overdraft of £750 (oops, I know!) they rang me up the day after my salary should have gone in to ask if there was a problem. I explained the situation and that I would be getting SMP paid into my account and they were brilliant, saying that as I was a "valued customer" if I wanted my overdraft increasing to let them know. I kept them informed regularly on what was happening and when I found a new job in October...
Should We Still Use Abbey National
Advantages: Close to My home, easy to use-NORMALLY
Disadvantages: This hiddeous waiting game
...Abbey NAtional have been my used and trusted Bank for about 10 years, I had a savings account set up for me when I was young! I recently decided to change it from a savings account to an actual BANK account, meaning I could have my own cheque book and debit card etc, which at the moment would be very useful. I also asked them to set me up with an E-banking account so I could check my details online! But three weeks later I have recieved NOTHING through the post! I haven't even had my PIN number through yet! I was told 10 days max. This has now been 21 days! I have enquired about it several times, just to be told that the original time I had been told was incorrect and to wait a few more days! I am NOT impressed in the slightest!!!...
Abbey low interest national
Advantages: Good service
Disadvantages: Low interest (Bad for savings accounts)
...Abbey national - Pleasant enough service, but lacks in the quality department. When I had a bank account here, at first I thought "hmm, i am getting a good deal here". For me, as this was my first bank account, I thought interest rates were reasonable. Then I looked around and saw that other building societies were offering a higher interest amount. Therefore, I changed to Nationwide.
Overall - From my own knowledge, this is a poor bank if you only want a savings account, but from others, they are ok for mortages....
Abbey National Makes Life More Difficult
Advantages: Well Known Company
Disadvantages: Bad Service and Incompetance
...Two years ago I foolishly listened to my financial adviser and applied for a mortgage through Abbey National to purchase my current property.
At the time the deals on offer were widespread and there was so much choice on the market.
I opted for a discounted Capital & Repayment mortgage which means that my mortgage is discounted against the Bank of England base rate for interest.
Having had a bad experience with Endowment mortgages I wanted a simple straightforward Capital and Repayment which means that the money I pay each month is made up of the interest on the borrowings plus something towards the actual loan thus decreasing the balance each year.
Well, I received my first mortgage offer towards a property that I was going to purchase and this was fine and everything seemed to be in order. The offer was made...
Abbey National Customer Service
Advantages: Excellent standard of customer care.
Disadvantages: Not the most competitive interest rates for experienced home owners.
...Myself and my partner recently peurchased our first home, and erring on the side of caution, we visited many independent mortgage shops and banks. The Abbey National finally got our custom on the basis of customer service alone. We received step by step, jargon free advice and were assigned to the care of an advisor soecially appointed for first time buyers. There was no pressure to commit, instead we received several courteous follow up calls to see how the buying process was progressing. All appointments could be made for the same or next day and they endeavoured to ensure we meet the same advisor each time to ease stress at our end. It was lovely never having to repeat information time and again. The interest rates were not the most competitive at the time but for struggling and confused first time buyers I would highly reccomend this...
