Why did the Beatles cross the road
Review of Abbey Road - Beatles (The) by
markhobbs
Advantages: Flawless
Disadvantages: One or two ish songs
...It’s not an easy thing writing ops, you know. Oh, no. It can be infuriating, dull and hard to be inspired. Frankly, the only reason I continue is the joy of putting question marks where they obviously don’t belong, and I’m even beginning to tire of that. Wel?l, nearly. So what I’m trying to say, in a roundabout, inaccurate, incomprehensible and ? downright silly way is that Abbey Road is very good. Good enough to inspire me to right another very nearly, but not quite, wholly unremarkable opinion. Lucky you!
This, despite the fact that it was released before the album Let It Be, was the last recorded work of the Beatles. And a hell of a way to go out as well, this is probably their finest work. Except for those other two. But seriously folks, this is one of the greatest albums ever, and that’s including...

Westminster Abbey, grand historic experience
Review of Westminster Abbey, London by
Writing321
Advantages: History and religion well presented
Disadvantages: None that I found
...historically is the start of the English Parliament, it later moved over the road to the Palace of Westminster.... which is still the House of Parliament today.
Do visit the Museum, just off the Cloisters: it has a huge range of apparel, papers, manuscripts, crowns and other aspects of monastery and church life from the very beginning of Westminster Abbey.
GENERAL FACTS AND FIGURES YOU MAY LIKE TO KNOW
Now for some general facts about The Collegiate Church of St Peter, Westminster: the official title of Westminister Abbey. Mainly limestone from Caen in France and sandstone from Reigate in Surrey make up the construction, along with Purbeck marble from Jurassic Dorset are included in the 2972 square metres (32,000 square feet): 161.5 metre (530 feet) length of the exterior.
For the 1953 coronation there were around 8200 people present...

Beauchief Abbey, Sheffield
Review of Beauchief Abbey, Sheffield by
micksheff
Advantages: Fantastic Location, Free To Visit
Disadvantages: Mainly Ruins
...though it is one that I have seen many times.
Access to the ruins of the Abbey are completely free to visit and there are placards that describe the various areas of the remains. Some of these have Artist impressions of what the Abbey would have looked like in its hey day.
If you are in the area and get a chance to visit Beauchief Abbey then the address is as below:
Beauchief Abbey
Beauchief Abbey Lane
Beauchief
Sheffield
S8 0EL
Tel: 0114 221 1900
It is possible to park on Beauchief Abbey Road and the ruins of the Abbey can be clearly seen from the road. The land on which the Abbey was built is very flat so it is accessible by wheelchair users.
Thank you for reading....

Whitby Abbey
Review of Whitby Abbey, North Yorkshire by
micksheff
Advantages: Good views. lots of history
Disadvantages: Admission charges
...see a young couple trying to push a pushchair up there but it quite a struggle. For those that are unable to climb these steps there is an alternative route from a road at the top which is well sign-posted at if you choose this option it is also possible to park nearby, although this is on a pay and display basis. If you are able to climb the steps then this is certainly the recommended route as the effort is rewarded with the most amazing views.
If you are planning a visit to Whitby Abbey it is open at the following times:
1st April to 1st November - daily from 10am until 6pm (or dusk if earlier in October)
2nd November to 31st March - daily from 10am until 4pm.
Current admission charges are as below:
Adults - £1.70 (2.5 Euros)
Concessions - £1.30 (2 Euros)
Children - 90p (1.5 Euros)

Bank with Abbey - I think they're brilliant
Review of Abbey by
natalierees
Advantages: Relaible, Helpful, Trustworthy
Disadvantages: No paying in books issued
...to and decided they were as good as any other on the market (besides I quite liked the look of the two little people under the umbrella on their sign!!!!!!!!) When registering to open an account I was told that I would need 6 months of previous banking statements. Now in the past I never bothered to keep them so had to trot up the road to Natwest to ask them for my statements. They told me I could have them but it would cost me £2.50 a page!!!!!!! I refused to pay, as it seemed like they were adding insult to injury but however Abbey National opened my account without them with no extra charge to myself.
Right from that moment I have never had a single trouble or bother with Abbey. They have always been helpful, kind, and courteous and nothing is too much trouble. I have a current account with them (with a substantial overdraft) a credit card...

Welbeck Abbey - The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of!
Review of Welbeck Abbey, Nottinghamshire by
micksheff
Advantages: Picturesque, Peaceful, Historic
Disadvantages: Largely Private, Difficult to get close to.
...most interesting.
Amongst the rarer Breeding Birds are Nighjar, Nightingale, and Woodlark but the rarest Bird found here is the Honey Buzzard. At least 3 pairs of these Birds have bred every year for over 30 years and last year there were four Chicks fledged.
If you wish to get close to Welbeck Abbey and view this Estate then it is visible from the A60, the main Worksop to Mansfield Road. There is however a minor, unclassified Road that runs parallel to the A60 and the views of the House are even better from here.
To get a real feel of the area however then I would certainly recommend that you take the walk along the back of the House. This is accessed from a footpath near to a small cluster of Buildings called Holbeck Woodhouse.
Holbeck Woodhouse is a quaint little place which has its own Church called St Winifred's Church...

Kearsney Abbey Gardens
Review of Kearsney Abbey Gardens by
daylehall
Advantages: Scenic, toilets and cafe on site, nice dog walking area
Disadvantages: Can get really busy in the Summer
...I live in Dover, Kent and Kearsney Abbey is a 10 minute drive up the road from me, so I often walk my dogs in these lovely gardens.
History
Kearsney Abbey has an interesting history which can be traced back for years but the first record of it being owned by a local person is between the years of 1445-1449 when it was owned by Ralph Tokes, Mayor of Dover. Since then, it has been rebuilt by the various owners and throughout the 19th Century it was a private boarding school, an Augustinian convent, a nursing home and also used as a private residence. In 1973, Kearsney Abbey Gardens were set in 27 acres and included in this area was a dairy, an orangery and a laundry. There were 10 cottages and farm buildings as well as stables and a garage. The rest of the area was taken up with gardens.
After the Second World War Dover Borough...

CROSSING the Great divide
Review of Abbey Road - Beatles (The) by
CrutcHead
Advantages: Hey, it's the BEATLES!
Disadvantages: none
...Eventually, the album that launched Harrison’s first A-side Beatle single “Something” (a song which Frank Sinatra is reportedly fond of performing and introducing on stage as his ‘favourite “Lennon/McCartney” tune’), Abbey Road comes as the Beatles’ official final album. Although Let It be, with its documentary movie feature, didn’t came along until the following year after this album’s release – The Beatles’ Abbey Road incidentally is the particular disc which the band have finished intended for a full length LP album release before head-honcho Beatle-man Paul McCartney declared his resignation from the group, that would lead to the greatest band breakup ever - and that is that of the Beatles. Other than what turned out as their last album LET IT BE successively after Abbey Road have seen its light of day, there are also a number...

The Best Album
Review of Abbey Road - Beatles (The) by
BLUESY
Advantages: Every single song included, every single note I would even say.
Disadvantages: The price of this and every album by this band, at least here in Spain...and the fact that this album happened to be the last this band recorded (not released)
...Although ‘Abbey Road’ was released before ‘Let it Be’, the truth is that it was recorded after that one. That means that ‘Abbey Road’ was, in fact, the last album the Beatles recorded, and it was recorded after those hard recording sessions of ‘Let it Be’, those sessions in which the Beatles were arguing all the time, specially Lennon and McCartney, and also Harrison and McCartney. For ‘Let it Be’, they thought about going back to their early years style, a rock and roll album, without orchestra or weird instruments to play with. The name of that album, because of that reason, it was going to be ‘Get back’, but at the end, ‘Get back’ became just a song and a single, and the album was called ‘Let it Be’. In the middle of rough arguments, Harrison thought about recording the album in the roof of the studios. It didn’t work...

"Once there was a way to get back homeward"
Review of Abbey Road - Beatles (The) by
Dizzy_Lizzy
Advantages: Everything. Seriously
Disadvantages: Absolutely none
...Abbey Road was the last album ever recorded by the greatest band of all time, the Beatles. During their relatively short recording career (eight years), the Beatles created 13 albums, almost all of which are serious candidates for the best album of all time. Of these albums, Abbey Road is probably the favourite among fans and critics. After the disastrous Get Back sessions (later released as the Let It Be album), the Beatles proved that they could still make wonderful music together.
Part of what makes Abbey Road so unique and unlike anything the Beatles had previously done is the fact that most of the entire second side of the album (or last half of the CD) is made up of a medley of unfinished songs. Each song seems to flow right into the next, and the entire medley is just a work of genius.
Of course, the first half...
