Very Able -And They Don't Sell Coal! (Abel & Cole Organics)

Advantages: Organic food, mostly British, and mostly seasonal.
Disadvantages: Expensive and you will have to wash it well.

One of the best books you've never read

Advantages: Brilliant
Disadvantages: Upsetting!

...Comments on the author aside; Kane and Abel is one of the best books if not the best book I have ever read in my life. A book has to be astoundingly good to get in my top ten - near impossible to reach the top five, and so this title is not one I throw around! I first read this book at 15, and now re-reading it at 26 I find I understand and enjoy it all the more. It is a tale that spans three generations, all continents, and all classes. It tells in stereo the tales of Baron Abel Rosnovski and William Lowell Kane, born on the same day in totally different circumstances - the former in poverty in Poland and Russia, witnessing murder, theft and sorrow, the latter into a rich banking family, where money is no object and the only thing expected of William was to follow in his father's footsteps and run the family banking empire...

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: everything

...I was really looking forward to my firs delivery from Abel & Cole. I have all ready imagined all those yummy organically grown veggies.... But what a disappointment it was! I ordered 3 different boxes + some extras. Every box claimed to satisfy 2-3 people. We are two people at the household & I figured out we eat more vegetables & fruits than average... However, the amount of products in each box was utterly ridiculous. ONE pepper?? are they being serious??? We had to shop at list twice more that week. And please don't get me started on the quality; Except the potatoes, everything was over ripped or just not ready to eat. The tomatoes were very very soft not even good enough to consume at the same day. We received some very rotten onions & Very green bananas. We had to throw away a third of out purchase. &, I know it's organic, but...

The best fruit and veg I have had in a long time

Kayaking The Tasman

Advantages: Fun, adventurous, amazing views

...Abel Tasman is a New Zealand National Park located just outside of Nelson on the North Coast of South Island. With its golden beaches and clear calm blue seas its the perfect place for sea kayaking so at Easter 2005 a group of four intrepid GAP year students set out with Abel Tasman Kayaks to explore the park. Fortunately the weather was good, because although the company run thorugh winter, I think good weather makes the whole experience a lot more enjoyable. Being short on time we undertook a guided day trip - Beaches and Islands - which cost $99 per person. The real thing!

Advantages: taste, natural, honest and real.
Disadvantages: not cheap, weekly deliveries to your door (but can deliver to neighbours), plan time to cook!

...I don't order every week as I am single and often eat out but I really like treating myself (and housemates) to a bit of Abel and Cole from time to time. Vegs can't be kept as long as standard ones (because they are free from the crap that usually keeps them alive) but they really taste much better than supermarket foods. Requires long cooking time but I personally enjoy cooking. So I tend to cook and freeze some prepared meals for later during the month. Meat is pricey but venaison especially is really tasty, as well as yoghurt, organic cider and wine (Rioja i last bought was organic and only cost me £5). A nother classic, riveting from the start

...Well, I think we can safely say that Mr. Archer has done it again. Kane & Abel is a classic. From the very beginning you know that this is going to be an epic, this is amongst the best books i have evr read in my life. This book is unbelievable, it is like a journey through time. I absolutely loved it, you simply have to go out and buy this book it is a work of art. The characters are brilliant, i know it looks like a thick book but in my opinion this book simply isn't long enough, the amount of twists and turns are incredible, Jeffrey Archer must have the most vivid imagination on earth because some of the things that happen in this book are breathtaking, if you don't read another book make sure you read this one, it is the best Jeffrey Archer book out there, i cannot reccommend this book highly enough, if you buy this book it will...

A Family Feud to end all others.

Advantages: Three generations of two separate families are brought together in the story with relative ease
Disadvantages: Author's reputation may put readers off - but shouldn't as will always be a great author

...The Television adaptation of this book (Peter Strauss as Abel and Sam Neil as Kane) in the 1980s brought the novel to my attention and so my first read of it. Archer's clever notion of bringing together from opposite sides of the world and opposite backgrounds, two men born on the same day is awe inspiring. I was gripped at each turn as the two lives of the young men were etched on my imagination until their fateful meeting in the USA. The story then plots the ensuing feud between the men which knows no bounds for them both on personal and professional levels, but which the next generations of their family try hard to ignore. Its a book that is so hard for me to put down everytime I read it - which is often. And a book which led me to the other excellently written offerings by Archer - especially the two follow-ups to this...
