Warm welcome in aberdeen
Advantages: Central, friendly and good deals
Disadvantages: Pricey
...The Thistle Caledonian Aberdeen is sited at 10-14 Union Terrace, Aberdeen, Only a few minutes walk (even for me) from the railway station. Though there is parking available as well so you can drive to it.
A friend and I were going to Aberdeen to attend a conference and AGM and accommodation was at a premium. I use hotel Connexions to find cheap accommodation and they came up with the 'Cally' as locals and taxi drivers call it. For myself and a friend we could get a twin room plus breakfast for £120.
I booked it there and then, incurring a £2 booking fee but by then i was getting desperate as I wanted somewhere near the station and also near the Beach leisure Centre for the venue of AGM, conference and dance.
We arrived at 12:45 but could not get access to the rooms till 2:00pm. this was pushing it a bit but the very friendly...

The Ashvale - Aberdeen. Yum yum yum!
Advantages: Great food, homely, clean and tidy
Disadvantages: Hard to get to if you don't have a car, not much for veggies
...We have been going to the Ashvale since we were small children. Our parents always used to take us there for a treat (I even had a couple of birthday parties there!) The Ashvale Restaurant in Aberdeen was the first of the Ashvale Restaurants to open and it opened in 1985.
The Ashvale is only found in Scotland and has around 12 restaurants, mostly situated in the North East of Scotland.
Not only is the Ashvale in Aberdeen a restaurant but it also the Ashvale take away attached to it. I have only used the take away a couple of times but have been impressed.
The menu in the restaurant is not that extensive, but it is really homely and good food. I think that it has something for everyone on it. You can choose from starters, main courses and desserts. Not everything is battered and deep fried!! The menu is great value for money...

Express By Holiday Inn Aberdeen
Advantages: Location, Cost.
Disadvantages: None
...Holiday Inn Express Aberdeen
This hotel is a modern, purpose built hotel with 155 bedrooms.
We Stayed at this Hotel on Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th of May 2007. We were meeting two of our Ciao friends and wanted somewhere near central Aberdeen.
Location: Chapel Street, off Union Street; the main thoroughfare of Aberdeen, with The Bon Accord Shopping Centre and various pubs, eateries and lots of little side streets with exclusive shops.
Cost: Four person bedroom: double bed and sofa bed: £55.00 per room, per night.
The main Entrance has a Small reception area with a few comfortable sofas and a bar area to the left with further comfortable seating, coffee tables and two large screen televisions.
The staff were very friendly and courteous and gave us a warm welcome.
A little further along is the dining area...

Travelodge Aberdeen-Brilliant Budget Accommodation
Advantages: Excellent Location, Excellent Value for Money
Disadvantages: Slightly Noisey
...I often stay in travelodges whenever i go on a city break. I stayed here with my partner a few months back as it was in a very central location(just 2 mins walk from the train station and it is round the corner from Union Street(the main shopping street in Aberdeen). The room cost £26 which was very good vaue for money and we stayed for two nights. The room we got was on the first floor which wasn't so great as we stayed over the weekend so there was a lot of noise from cars speeding up and down Union Street and there were lots of seagulls causing so much noise. This of course meant that it was very tricky to sleep and relax. I stayed here on a previous occasion with a close friend of mine and our room was on the top floor and that was really great as we could sleep pretty well.
The room was the usual layout with a TV...

Nightlife in Aberdeen
Advantages: cheap drink! good company, good transport services
Disadvantages: cold, gets dark early!
...The city of Aberdeen has always been regarded as the granite city. This gives the impression of grey, doom and gloom, and I have to admit, this is the image that I had of Aberdeen
I should confess now, I am a student in Aberdeen, but it is much better than most people imagine in more ways than one.
The clubs are banging, but there's not many of them...Amadeus is comparable to Destiny in Glasgow, or Eros and Elite in Edinburgh - owned by the same company. The prices are expensive on Cream nights (£14 a ticket) but the rest of the times it's pretty reasonable. The drinks inside are pricey, but not extortionate.
Next on the agenda is the Ministry. This club is (as far as I know) in no way affiliated with the Ministry of Sound, but it does attract the big DJs, such as Judge Jules, who I have seen there- I hasten to add! Drinks are...

Aberdeen Maritime Museum
Advantages: Excellent museum, my kids love to go every time we visit Aberdeen
Disadvantages: Perhaps not easy to find as it is off the main streets.
...Aberdeen Maritime Museum is located in Ship Row, close to the harbour in a historic area of the city. The importance of the fishing industry in this part of the country is explored along with the oil industry and local shipbuilding. There are loads of interactive exhibits which kids will enjoy and the large oil platform model which stretches over three levels is amazing to see. There are fantastic views out over the harbour area from the top floor of the museum too. The older part of the building - Provost Ross's house is very interesting with it's low ceilings and winding staircases. It houses lots of memorabilia from things like the ferry services and lifeboats.
The museum has a small gift shop selling all kinds of sea related gifts, books and toys.
The Leading Lights cafe in the basement area serves lovely coffee and cakes...

Aberdeen Art Gallery, City of Aberdeen
Advantages: Free admission, Lovely interior and building
Disadvantages: Opening times and parking
...Aberdeen Art Gallery is the main art gallery in the City of Aberdeen and was designed by Alexander Marshall McKenzie. It is located in the City centre close to Union Street -the city's main shopping street. The Art Gallery is very easy to find as it is located in Schoolhill which is just off Union street.
The Aberdeen Art Gallery has large collection of displays on the city's rich cultural heritage as well as arts from all over the UK. There is a large collection of works of art, including outstanding examples of Modern Art, which appeals to visitors of all ages.
It opened in in 1885 and is one of the city's most popular tourist attractions along with the Aberdeen Maritime Museum and Codonas
and it regular changes its displays as well as hosting a number of special exhibitions, events and activities.

Aberdeen Customs
Advantages: Small, easy to get around
Disadvantages: Not much to keep you occupied while waiting around!
...You can't possibly get lost in Aberdeen Airport. But just in case you lose your bearing walking down your own street, I'm going to give you some directions. These are purely for the passenger airport terminal and do not cover the heliport (which I believe is equally easy!)
You walk through the main entrance (OK, the only entrance) to the passenger terminal and are confronted by Check-in desks (probably about 15 of them) and sales desks (only a few) on your right hand side. On the left hand side you'll find the baggage carousel for arrivals (yes, it is in the main hall...more on that later!) and money exchange. Head down the middle towards the departure gates and there is a WH Smiths on one side, and about 4 souveneir type shops on your right. Carry on down past WH Smiths and you'll find a coffee shop and bar. Dead ahead of you is...

Aberdeen Managers
Advantages: Management
Disadvantages: current climate
...I have just completed extensive research into this area, and have come to the conclusion that the aberdeen global growth team are second to none. Let us take for example the aberdeen global growth technology fund, with its past record second to none. In Mr John Pullar Strecker they have a quality manager with a wealth of experience. Recently the fund has changed its investment objectives to allow it to tap a growth in other countires in addition to the current technology powerhouse, the U.S.A. In the current climate, growth is somewhat minimal due to the rapid slowdown in the U.S economy, however, many expect the tide to turn in the fourth quarter of this year. Technology is here to stay, and if you want to get a part of it, this fund is for you !...
