Inverness as a place to visit
Advantages: Plenty activities, good nightlife at weekends, safe, scenic,
Disadvantages: weekday evening entertainment can be a bit poor,
...well you may think i will be biased about inverness due to my living here for my (i would say entire life but take a couple of years out where i lived in other places like aberdeen, tain and the like) life. however i have been to most major cities in the uk along with plenty of small villages and towns too. i will give you as accurate a description and opinion as i possibly can on the town/city (as it is now).
Inverness is currently undergoing a major re-development to its city centre with new wider paths being laid and road system being turned upside down, shaken around a bit and re structured aparently in an effort to reduce traffic and congestion. To be honest the mess is kept to a minimum and the noise level seems reasonably low throughout this work and the finished product does actually look very pleasing to the eye...

The place to stay when visiting Inverness.
Advantages: Fantastic standard in both the rooms and the restaurant.
Disadvantages: Lack of leisure facilities.
...When my wife was offered a job in Inverness the company offered the whole family a weekend trip for the second interview.
So my wife, 8 month daughter and I drove from just outside Edinburgh up to Inverness. When approaching Inverness from the South, on the A9 the hotel is perfectly signposted and cannot be missed.
As you drive into the car park you would be forgiven for thinking that the hotel itself does not look anything special. Trust me when I say that it is the outside, and outside of the building only, that will make you think this.
We had booked over the phone and when we went to check in something had gone wrong and there was no record of our booking, the start of a bad experience you might think. No, the staff dealt with it, without any fuss or hassle. Another room was booked, we sat and waited in the beautiful...

Luxurious Inverness
Advantages: Beautiful Hotel, Fantastic View
Disadvantages: Very Expensive, Location
...The Culloden House Hotel is located just outside Inverness near Culloden Battlefield. We spent a night in the hotel at the end of September.
We stayed in one of the Junior Garden Suites. The suite was gorgeous and had two rooms; both the bedroom and the lounge had beautiful views of the grounds.
The rooms were large and bright with tasteful decor. The bathroom was enormous and beautifully done in marble. I usually have trouble with hotel beds, but our bed was not too soft and extremely comfortable! I didn't want to leave!
The staff is polite, accommodating and very helpful. Unfortunately, since the stay was so short we didn't get the chance to eat in the restaurant - which by all accounts is worth a trip up to Inverness in itself! Therefore, I cannot honestly rate the food as excellent as I didn't try it.
The only...

First Aberdeen
Advantages: Modern clean & warm
Disadvantages: reliability during peak hours & single journey ticket price.
...First in Aberdeen provide city centre services with the Aberdeen City Council boundary. There are predominately the only bus company to offer this. Stagecoach and Bains cover two routes within the city.

Services run from around 0500 to 0000 Mon to Sat with later start on Sundays with last runs approx 2300. Fares are in three simple steps.
1 or 2 stages are 70p 3,4 or 5 stages £1.30 6 stages plus £1.80 (correct at May 2007) First Aberdeen operate an exact fare system where all monies are deposited down a chute into a hopper and no change is giving by the driver.

Warm welcome in aberdeen
Advantages: Central, friendly and good deals
Disadvantages: Pricey
...The Thistle Caledonian Aberdeen is sited at 10-14 Union Terrace, Aberdeen, Only a few minutes walk (even for me) from the railway station. Though there is parking available as well so you can drive to it.
A friend and I were going to Aberdeen to attend a conference and AGM and accommodation was at a premium. I use hotel Connexions to find cheap accommodation and they came up with the 'Cally' as locals and taxi drivers call it. For myself and a friend we could get a twin room plus breakfast for £120.
I booked it there and then, incurring a £2 booking fee but by then i was getting desperate as I wanted somewhere near the station and also near the Beach leisure Centre for the venue of AGM, conference and dance.
We arrived at 12:45 but could not get access to the rooms till 2:00pm. this was pushing it a bit but the very friendly...

The Ashvale - Aberdeen. Yum yum yum!
Advantages: Great food, homely, clean and tidy
Disadvantages: Hard to get to if you don't have a car, not much for veggies
...We have been going to the Ashvale since we were small children. Our parents always used to take us there for a treat (I even had a couple of birthday parties there!) The Ashvale Restaurant in Aberdeen was the first of the Ashvale Restaurants to open and it opened in 1985.
The Ashvale is only found in Scotland and has around 12 restaurants, mostly situated in the North East of Scotland.
Not only is the Ashvale in Aberdeen a restaurant but it also the Ashvale take away attached to it. I have only used the take away a couple of times but have been impressed.
The menu in the restaurant is not that extensive, but it is really homely and good food. I think that it has something for everyone on it. You can choose from starters, main courses and desserts. Not everything is battered and deep fried!! The menu is great value for money...

Arguably the most scenic railway line in the UK
Advantages: Impressive scenery
Disadvantages: Cold carriages, weather can be a factor in spoiling views, not many services
...the station office at Dingwall was shut) - several people were taking advantage of this.
This was a Friday in January and there was only one service to Kyle all day - leaving Dingwall at 1120, arriving at Kyle around 1330 and departing again at 1515, returning to Dingwall about 1730. Make sure you know the timetable as there may not be a suitable alternative means of transport available if you miss the train!
A tip - sit on the right hand side of the train if possible going to Kyle, and the left returning to Dingwall or Inverness. You will see the best views.
For many people, the attraction of the Kyle line is its scenic nature - arguably the line with the best views in the whole of the UK. From Dingwall to Lochluichart the views are mainly of trees although Loch Garve provides a welcome break in the monotony. Beyond Garve station the line...

Express By Holiday Inn Aberdeen
Advantages: Location, Cost.
Disadvantages: None
...Holiday Inn Express Aberdeen
This hotel is a modern, purpose built hotel with 155 bedrooms.

What's the story In..verness
Advantages: Shops and scenery
Disadvantages: Need a car to get to most scenic places
...in Aberdeen, now we have 2 shopping centres with M&S, Debenhams, to name but a few. There is also a retail park on the outskirts of town with a lot of big named shops (Boots, Homebase, etc). At the retail park there is also a cinema, with quite a few screens so there are many films on each week.
If you are into pubs and clubs, there are quite a lot about, some of which have an extended licence these days.
For family days out , there is quite a lot to do - there is the sports centre/Aquadome, which caters for most sports tastes, including swimming, trampolining, kids parties, etc.
What I would recommend if you came to Inverness would be a car as there are many scenic places to see round and about Inverness but not always handy to get to without one. I would suggest Loch Ness (always a good place for a picnic), Culloden...

Pizza Hut, Inverness
Advantages: Very good value
Disadvantages: Poor service
...There are a few pizza places in Inverness but this is the only one that I take my 5-year old son into as the selection for kids is far better than the others.
When you enter Pizza Hut you normally have to wait for a moment to be shown to a seat and then you are left for a few minutes to decide what you want.
The selection on the menu is fab - a wide range of starters and pizzas and, if you don't want pizzas, there are pasta dishes. Pizza come in deep pan or traditional and you can get ones to share as well as individual ones. There are also various toppings that you can have, as well as side dishes.
Kids menu is good - not just pizzas on it, my son absolutely loves the chicken goujons and potato wedges.
There are also a wide selection of drinks, sweets and the ice cream factory.
What I love about Pizza Hut is that...
