Review of Pride (DVD)

Absolutely brilliant album!

...Absolution is the 2003 album by Muse. It is massively acclaimed, winning the 21st best album ever by NME, and I have to agree! Muse are an English rock band with an alternative feel to their music, and this is what drew me to them and their music. This IS a rock album, but it's like nothing I've heard before or since. The whole thing is totally new, and that's because of a few key elements: 1) Matthew Bellamy's voice. This guy has an abnormality in his vocal chords, meaning they didn't develop properly. Because of this, he can sing in falsetto and vibrato (very high), which creates an almost space age, alien sounding music. 2) Solid guitar - the guitar and bass on this album are some of the best ever. Incredibly complex lead guitar can be found throughout, and the basslines are heavy and complex too. The fast paced music...

Absolute Absolution

Advantages: Epic rock songs, intelligent song writing
Disadvantages: Extremely experimental

Absolutely

Advantages: Tastes nice. Very alcoholic.
Disadvantages: Expensive.

...well with just about everything. I haven't looked back since. Initially I started with Smirnoff, which is alright, but it's a bit ubiquitous and is basically just bog standard vodka with some clever marketing. Absolut, on the other hand, is for the more sophisticated and discerning alcoholic. One of the plus points is that when you arrive at the checkout with your trolley filled with 14 bottles of Absolut, some Pringles, and a bottle of lemonade, the 16 year old acne-riddled checkout attendant will not think 'Jesus, another bloody lush' in the same way that they might if you had stocked up with equal quantities of Smirnoff. Rather, they will think, 'hey, look at that ace girl. She drinks cool and nice vodka. Bet she has brilliant parties with interesting people. When I grow up and lose the acne I aspire to be just like her...

...oven soon wore thin! But I know the oven must be clean to work efficiently and for health reasons, so clean it, I do. I have tried sprays, pastes, scouring with soap filled pad, you name it I've bought it and tried it. We had invested in a steam cleaner a couple of years ago, so one day I was using it in the bathroom and thought, I'll try the oven next. The dirt was beginning to slide off with the powerful steam, when BANG! The glass door broke into little glass balls. I had to buy a whole new door and glass panel to replace it, so decided the steam cleaner was banished! How to keep my oven clean? ...My Dads cousin came for a few days visit and last night we were all going out for a meal, so yesterday I thought it was time to clean my oven as I would not be using it to cook any tea. I had a couple of boxes of oven pride stored away in one of my cupboards that I had bought from my local Home Bargains for £2.99 a while ago so I decided it was time to give it a try and if there is one job I HATE and HATE with a passion, it is cleaning the oven but the box states "the effortless way to clean your oven and BBQ!" so an effortless way of cleaning it sounded fantastic. I opened the box and read the instructions simply put your racks in the bag, pour in the solution, wait, rinse off your racks, dispose of cleaning solution down the drain. Pride & Prejudice

Advantages: Great characters, scenery
Disadvantages: A little long

...Considering this movie is essentially two hours in which absolutely nothing really happens, I enjoyed this movie. This is very surprising for someone like me - normally I feel like I have wasted my time after watching a movie like this, but I think they did an excellent job on this film. First of all, the scenery is exactly like it should have been. The set was perfect in every way for me. All of the houses, the halls, the clothing, everything about it is exactly how I would have imagined it to be, and that definitley helped with the experience. I also think they did a good job at casting with this. Mr. Darcy is spot on, and all of the daughters have exactly the kind of innocent excitement that I would have imagined from the books, and Bingley is immediatley likeable. It is unusual for me to like a movie like this because, well...

The Absolute Greatest Songs From Queen

Advantages: It's aimed more at newbies to Queen rather than die hard fans. It's still awesome though
Disadvantages: There's no point for diehard fans to get this, nothing new.

...has been some complaints that this isn?t a greatest hits album as it doesn?t include X or Y or so on, but no, it?s not a greatest hits album, it?s called Absolute Greatest, it?s the 20 best songs from Queen and I think they did a magnificent job. I think the fact that you get 20 songs, allows these newbies to listen to the music and really enjoy their best work before getting to their less commercialised work. I think the fact that it?s only one disk works brilliantly as well, I think anymore would put the people that this album is aimed at off. Final Opinion If you are a diehard fan of Queen and have all of their albums, there really is no point in buying this album, however if you are like me, and have one or two songs that you brought from ITunes on your laptop, then this is the perfect CD to make you realise what you are...

EXCELLENT Absolution!

Advantages: HEART WARMING ROCK!

...I first learnt about Muse when i was watching the good old music channels and saw their video 'Time is running out' on Q. When i had finished watching and listening to their video i was curious to find out more about them and when i did i was very suprised that they had been around for a while! Whilst learning about this rockband i found out that they have three albums out with their first being 'Showbiz'. Their second 'Origin of Symmetry' and of couse their third 'Absolution' which was released last year. How Pride and Prejudice grew on me

Advantages: Cleverly constructed, multi-layered, funny if you're used to the language
Disadvantages: Period language could be awkward to some

...Jane Austen - not exactly "forbidden fruit". Lady Chatterley - certainly. Moll Flanders - possibly. But Jane Austen? Starched cravats, tea parties and everybody calling each other "Miss Bennet" or "Mr. Gardiner" insteady of Lizzy or Edward? To my eleven-year-old self, absolutely! Costume dramas weren't really staple viewing at home when I was smaller - my parents watched Cracker instead - so I missed the 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice serial and became quietly obsessed with reading the novel. I never studied Jane Austen at school (to my annoyance) but perhaps it's just as well - studying every little detail, identifying symbolism and deciding what role or stereotype each character represented might have ruined the book for me. Although "bright", I was too unfamiliar with period language at eleven to fully appreciate Pride and Prejudice...
