THE BLUE OYSTER BAR
Review of Police Academy DVD by  robbroome

Advantages: Tackleberry on the rifle range
Disadvantages: Sequels 4-6

...which is always key in a scene in almost every one of the Police Academy films. The acting for a comedy series is surprisingly good. Bubba Smith in particular manages to surprise. He plays Hightower, a florist who's generally a nice guy unless you push the wrong button. One nice little scene is where Mahoney helps Hightower learn to drive. It's funny but also kind of heartwarming in its own little way. Michael Winslow also uses his sole talent(he can do some amazing things with his voice) to use as he plays the wisecracking voice-throwing Larvel Jones. Steve Guttenberg manages to make us like him despite the troubled past his character has. Gaines and Harris of course are quite good as the commadant and chief captain at the academy. There are also other actors and characters who do a nice job. My favorite character in the film... Read review

An institution full of slapstick comedy and cops!
Review of Police Academy DVD by  LR_17

Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: Nothing

..., but he's very gentle when he wants to be. After spending many years as a florist, he wants a career change and enters the academy. Cmndt. Eric Lassard Played by actor George Gaynes. The most loveable character of all. The Commandant is the head of the police academy. His word is law, even if he forgets nearly everything that comes into his head. He's slightly accident prone and usually gets the wrong end of the stick about everything if it's not explained to him in bright neon lettering! Cadet Eugene Tackleberry Played by actor David Graf (Now sadly deceased). The funniest of them all. Tackleberry is the resident gun nut. He lives, breathes and thinks about guns. Tackleberry loves the army, everything about the military, drives around in an army jeep, wears fatigues, carries knives, fireworks, 10 different types of guns. Even his... Read review

Life in the old dog yet.
Review of Driving Miss Daisy (Special Edition) by  elspeth334

Advantages: Great acting
Disadvantages: none

...Daisy played by Jessica Tandy is a very strait-laced former school teacher who lives in post-war Georgia . Her son (Dan Ackroyd) hires a black chauffeur Hoke (Morgan Freeman) to drive his mother, a widow around. The film follows the 20 year relationship between the pair in the early 1960’s and is an insight into the racial barriers that existed at that time. It is a very moving and sometimes very funny film. Miss Daisy decides to teach Hoke to read and he repays her with such devotion to duty that comes with “love” and the greatest of respect. It is a “partnership” that spanned two decades and we watch them grow old together, even when Miss Daisy is institutionalised Hoke still visits. There are powerful performances in this film by Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman in particular. It is a very moving film... Read review

A gentle comedy
Review of Driving Miss Daisy (Special Edition) by  Simoncook1

Advantages: Great movie with some superb acting performances.
Disadvantages: Maybe a little slow for a younger audience

...;s synagogie is attacked, Hoke points out similarities between the Klu-Klux-Klans attacks on black churches. The movie is tinged with sadness throughout as we first see the family cook die, and then as they both get older they have to go their separate ways as Miss Daisy moves into a home, and Hoke no longer drives. One important factor is that they finally admit to their great friendship. Although not fast paced, the story is gentle yet somehow gripping. The acting Jessica Tandy won and Academy Award for her portrayal of Miss Daisy. She shined in the role convincing the audience of her stubbornness and determination. Morgan Freeman also gave an unforgettable performance as Hoke, with understated humour and a toughness of character that was very evident. Dan Akroyd more famous for slap-stick type roles plays Miss Daisy’s... Read review

The sky's the limit
Review of Darlington by  Mohammed

Advantages: Good financial backing
Disadvantages: The Pitch is not conducive to their passing game

...Darlington were unlucky last season finishing fourth in the league, narrowly missing promotion, and then losing out in the play-off final at Wembley after dominating most of the game. Despite the disappointments of last season ater having played by far the best football in the division things are looking very good for the Quakers. The starting of the new development of a new football ground and the football academy certainly make the Quakers the envied club of the Division. They start this season as preseason favourites and who could argue that they won't do it this time. The backing of the multi millionaire George Reynolds is a major plus for the quakers. He has the drive and the ambition to take this club into the First Division and even the Premiership. Thus far he has yet to open his cheque on new signings but this is only... Read review

Crazy Beautiful
Review of Crazy Beautiful (12) by  1drunkbrit

Advantages: A romantic teen film with no stupid comedy
Disadvantages: No really memorable scenes. strange mix of latino and love ballads on soundtrack. Acting is only average.

...Crazy Beautiful stars Kirsten Dunst and Jay Hernandez as two high school students who fall in love, despite their parents wishes. Before anyone screams "Romeo and Juliet", this is quite different. Nicole is introduced as a grungey brat who drinks too much. Carlos is an under-priviliged mexican kid; an A-grade student wanting to go to a naval Academy to become a pilot, and is a star of the football team. The two meet when Carlos spots Nicole doing community service for "Driving under the influence" by cleaning litter from the beach. After a short while, the two get together. This bonding period seem s to take an eternity, and the film seems to lose itself for a while. All this bonding leads to the rather randy Nicole bedding Carlos. After this, the film seems to gather some despearately needed momentum. We are now introduced to Nicoles... Read review

As close as you will get to a real light sabre
Review of Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (PC) by  gorvifal3

Advantages: Light sabre duels, good graphics, nice storyline
Disadvantages: The Dark Jedi and Rancours

...I decided to buy Jedi Academy after a friend kept on telling me about another game by the name of Knights of the Old Republic. Unfortunately for me being a Mac user I couldn?t get Knights of the Old Republic for the Mac, I went on a few sites selling Mac games and Jedi Academy seemed to be the best alternative. Jedi Academy and Knights of the Old Republic are two very different games, Knights of the Old Republic being a role playing game and Jedi Academy an action/adventure game. At first I was disappointed in not being able to purchase Knights of the Old Republic, but when I started to play Jedi academy this was no longer the case. Jedi Academy and Knights of the Old Republic are both games produced by Lucas arts who own the rights to make most Star Wars games. Jedi academy is the first Jedi based game that I have played... Brixton Academy Rocks
Review of Brixton Academy by  tazmac25

Advantages: Fantastic intimate venue
Disadvantages: Queues and ticket touts

...I came across this venue whilst surfing the net for gigs and I am so glad I happened upon it. I love looking thro different catagories on ebay (internet auction site) and Im a huge fan of Linkin Park - with this in mind I happened to find that they were playing at the Brixton Academy on March 5th 2003. Funny old thing tickets had been sold out almost as soon as they went on sale which was why they were doing a brisk business on Ebay. I decided to have a bit of a research day before buying the tickets, just in case. I quite easily located the Brixton academy site, which gave very easy, concise gig information and so much more. The Venue Built towards the end of the 1920s as a movie theatre and to this day still has the look of a old fashioned theatre. On catching my first sight of the academy, not a place to be forgotten. It boasts... Read review

Things can only get worse
Review of Police Academy (Wide Screen) by  TheNeil

Advantages: Reasonably funny
Disadvantages: Might not appeal to all tastes

...The first in the seemingly endless Police Academy series is also the best (but given the competition it's hardly suprising). The premise is simple, city tries to increase number of police officers by relaxing the entry requirements to the city's police academy. Cue hippies, dropouts, and undesirables all signing up to join the boys in blue. There are some funny scenes, and being new, had a freshness that set it apart from other films of the time. It's crude, lwed, and not in the slightest bit sensitive of subtle. A little predictable maybe but in this setup you're not interested in the destination, just the journey there. The cast are good and there's a lot of fresh faces and up and coming talent in there (and Kim Cattrall is just to die for). They do a credible job and do what's needed of them. Worth watching but by now surely... Read review

The province of Massa Carrara
Review of Carrara (Italy) by  giannit

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

..., the Malaspina building which houses the town's world-famous Fine Arts Academy and the 17th century buildings looking onto the central Piazza Alberica. Behind the town , the mountains hold a treasure wich is dear to sculptors of all times. This is where Michelangelo himself came to chose his marble. Yet, the mountains seem to be untouched by the two-thousand years of man's toil and labour. And it is this marble whic for centuries has been used to celebrate the glories and triumphs of all peoples of the world. Between the Apuan Alps and the Appennines, bordering on three different regions, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna and Liguria there unfolds a magnificent expanse of land called Lunigiana. Lunigiana, with its distant origins, is seeped in history and tradition. Its numerous castles, villages and Romanesque parishes stand out against a landscape offering... Read review
