Advantages: I can manage my life and work through Access!
Disadvantages: Its really hard to get used to, patience required!

...I have never been a fan of Microsoft Access; in fact for a while I absolutely hated it. Most people I have spoken to have thought MS Access was a waste of time. I have recently taken on the role of ECDL tutor and ITQ assessor. I am therefore responsible for teaching the program to new learners but also assessing them on their use of IT which means I have to be pretty competent with many applications including MS Access (Database). I started learning about databases by trying to remember the names of everything, buts it not until you really get going that you can discover and learn new things. ...As part of my university course, I was asked to do a project/ assignment on a database. I thought ‘oh, my god’ as I have never had a computer lesson about creating a database. The tutor of this unit recommended this book to all of my class,- access 97 basic skills. I got all of the books that were recommended to me and out of all of them, this book was very easy to use, as it was layout very well and it did not use any complicated language. WG602 54 Mbps Wireless Access Point

Advantages: Good features, repeater and bridging modes
Disadvantages: Minor installation problem

...Here's the story. I have an existing wireless network. The access point is in the office in the loft. I have a laptop I wander around with (as you do) and there is a PC on the ground floor. On a good day with a strong wind, the downstairs PC gets a weak to medium connection. All too often though it is intermittent or fails completely. Web browsing is quirky and the whole experience is less than satisfactory. The bottom line is that despite being well within the theoretical range for wireless devices, there are just too many walls, floors and sundry other obstacles getting in the way. There are several things you can do do improve the signal but most are more suited to open spaces. One option that would help in this situation is to use a pair of access points in repeater mode. Access - Your Flexible Fiend

Advantages: Very comprehensive, powerful and flexible
Disadvantages: Not intuitive like Word, or even Excel to a certain extent

...I bought one of these access points for work because of the two aerial functionality. These aerials work in one of two ways, either diversity where they both send and recieve and can tell which aerial has the best signal to you and uses that, and simplex where one aerial sends and one receives and one sends and you have to have a good signal on both for the system to work. the diversity system makes it more flexible and we have a larger aerial on an extension on one of the RP TNC aerial connectors, this covers our manufacturing area, and one standard aerial which covers our office space. this works well and extends the range and thus the value for money of this unit. the advantage however using the aerials simplex is that in situations like an office with a good signal to both aerials one sending and one receiving cuts down...

ntlworld 0800 FREE Access

Advantages: It's FREE
Disadvantages: Customer service, time to get the CD, connection speed...

...My family recently got an ntl phoneline fitted and have finally received our CD-ROM in order to access the internet via their freephone 0800 access. It is good to have the free access so you can go on at any time of the day or night without having to worry about the call charges but you get thrown off after two hours or connection (though you can re-dial again straight away) and, if the connection is idle for more than 2 (yes TWO) minutes, then it disconnects you. I am talking to the people who have received their CDs - it took us 3 months to get it out of them and I know people who are still waiting after about 6 months. The connection speed is not bad, but, at peak times (between 6pm and 10pm), even if you connect at 49333bps, you get so frustrated with the speed of the pages loading up etc. so it is not really worth it. I used to use Access 97, but I have recently upgraded, I cannot really say that the upgrade was worth the cost. Access 2000 has basically exactly the same functionality as Access 97, there are a few extras and the user interface has been changed. It has wizards that allow you to easily start using access to create simple databases to store information (ie. Names, Addresses & Tel No's). Once you have built your databases there are a couple of ways to enter data, either directly using the Table or by creating a Form (this presents the data in a nicely layed out form).
