...Accra is the captial city of Ghana.
It is the seat of government and its financial center where all the major banks operate.
Presently it is undergoing a major reconstruction programme and new roads have already been constructed and others are presently under contruction.
The night life in Accra is varied and lively with a wonderful selection of restaurants serving African, European, Middle Eastern and Far Eastern cuisine.

Ghana, my experience.
Advantages: beautiful people and beautiful country
Disadvantages: none really
...Accra, stopping to refuel at Lagos.
We departed the plane at Accra, and were hit by a stifeling heat, which I had never experienced before.
My friends mum-in-law had arranged for us to be picked up and we spent the next 3 hours travelling to Takoradi, passing through 'villages' full of mud huts and children begging us to buy their goods.
The countryside was breathtaking, the way that the huts were built from little resorces was incredible, but most of all the generosity and hospitality we recieved from people who have nothing was astounding.
During our stay there, we had running water... sometimes, we had electricity... sometimes, we purchased fantastic wooden ornaments for 20p, we visited beautiful beaches, but most of all, for me any-way, My trip to Ghana made me rethink my life.
I would recommend a holiday here to any-one with a small...

Kumasi - Ghana's second largest city
Advantages: Views, wildlife, tradition
Disadvantages: None
...Kumasi is Ghana's second largest city and is situated in the Ashanti Region. It is about 5 hours drive from Accra.
This region is rich in ancient history, culture and tradition. It is the heartland of all Asante and the ancient Asante Kingdom.
Kumasi was founded in 1695 by the Asantehene Osei Tutu. Kumasi has various attractions such as palaces, museums, forts, churches, festivals and traditional articrafts. It also has the largest open air market in West Africa.
Around Kumasi are the little artisan villages where traditional handcrafts, wood carvings and native woven cloths are sold.
Among the attractions to visitors are the local funerals that usually take place on Saturday, where mourners wear the traditional red and black with drumming, dancing and drinking. A spectacular traditional even not to be missed...

A Great Place to Stay in Ghana
Advantages: Clean, conveniant, friendly staff, good food, breakfast included, excellent for businesspeople
Disadvantages: Location is in town and not near the beach.
...The Novotel Hotel in Ghana is a classy hotel, with very clean facillities, an extremely friendly staff and conveniant to city life.
They also have a well kept swimming pool, a nice outdoor area, good food, and a fitness center.
Finally, Suntours travel agency has an office in the office and can make just about any Ghana tour arrangements that you desire.
Business people will find that the staff is very accomodating and helpful. The computer center has both Macintosh and IBM compatible computers with internet access and staff that are assigned to the computer center.
Residents of Ghana often hold meetings and events in the hotel and so it is important to book plans early.
The Novotel's focus is the business market and thus you are unlikely to find in-hotel entertainment on a regular basis....

Your Star in the Sky
Advantages: Cheap fares, very prominent throughout Africa
Disadvantages: Occasional delays, long queues at check-in
...Having been transferred to Ghana in the year 2000 and having lived their for a period of over one year I thought I might write an opinion on Ghana Airways, with whom I traveled with many times.
Ghana Airways is the national airline of Ghana and their slogan is “Your Star in the Sky”
They operate a fleet of DC10 aircraft, which they use for their long haul flights, and a fleet of DC9 aircraft, which they use on the short haul flights. Although these aircraft are quite old, they are maintained and serviced very well.
The destinations covered by Ghana Airways, from and to the capital city Accra, are:
Long Haul Flights
---------------------
New York, Baltimore, London, Dusseldorf, Johannesburg, Harare,
Short Haul Flights
----------------------
Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Conakry (Guinea), Dakar (Senegal), Lagos...

The Golden Tulip
Advantages: Comfortable, Conveniently located, All necessary facilities
Disadvantages: Some may find it a bit expensive
...Many of you who might have read some of my previous opinions will be aware that I travel to West Africa quite frequently and one of the destinations that I visit most is Accra in Ghana.
When travelling to Africa in general one of the most important decisions you must make is the hotel that you intend to stay in.
You need a place that provides you with comfortable rooms, clean food and water, entertainment and security.
My hotel of choice is the Golden Tulip Accra Hotel.
This hotel is part of the Golden Tulip chain of hotels. Golden Tulip hotels enjoy a high reputation throughout the world. More on the Golden Tulip chain later in this opinion.
The Golden Tulip Accra Hotel is located just 2 km from Accra’s Kotoka International Airport and is commonly referred to as the “airport hotel”.
Most major...

Axim Beach Resort
Advantages: Friendly Tropical Paradise
Disadvantages: Difficult to get to (but this could be an advantage!)
...I went to Ghana for three months in 2003 and my favourite memory is of the Axim Beach Resort. I still think of it when I feel miserable in England to perk myself up!
We took the STC (State Transport Coach) from the capital Accra to Takoradi, a smaller city in the west of the country; then from Takoradi we took a tro tro from the station to Axim. The tro tro ride was a real adventure, I had my head out the window like a dog the whole way! Tro tro's are cheaper public transport vehicles, like people carriers. At best they are like the school sports bus you might take to an away fixture; at worst, they are like a big biscuit tin on wheels.
When we got to Axim it was dark and there was only one taxi in the rank. We didn't really know where we were going, only to ask for the beach resort. Understandably we got ripped off, it was only...

Absolutely wonderful
Advantages: Tropical trees, plant species
Disadvantages: Only the mosquito's
...My company assigned me to Ghana for a period of one year and during this time I visited many areas in Ghana.
Probably the most wonderful of all was the Aburi Botanical Gardens.
Situated about 2 hours drive from the capital city of Accra.
These gardens were opened in 1890 according to the guide.
The entrance fee is very nominal (about PDS 1.00 - one pound)
These gardens contain an unbelievable amount of species in trees, plants and flowers.
You take the guided tour through these gardens (its actually a Tropical Forest)on special tracks.
They have a wonderful waterfall which just pops up in front of you right in the middle of this forest and you can walk right behind it on a special track.
Also one of the attractions is a bridge made only of rope with a plank in the middle about two feet wide. This bridge runs over...

The greatest adventure.
Advantages: The people and the culture
Disadvantages: The malarial tablets
...A wealth of culture, history, breath taking scenerary, happiness and very few poisonous spiders! Ghana for me is equivalent to heaven on Earth. I briefly experienced ex patriot life and life of a few of the inhabitants of this beautiful country.
When exploring Ghana the first thing that stunned me were the vareity of colours. The colours of the bush (rainforest), striking purple hummingbirds, greens and blues, flowers of all colours bright and huge are mirrored by the dress sense of the people in the cities and villages.
The bridge walk at Kakum National Park 2-3hrs drive north west of Accra. Is breath taking. Walking on no more than a plank with safety nets either side, you are propelled up to 40 metres above the rainforest floor. Friends had seen monkeys on the walkways that morning and walked with the butterflies later...

Information for visitors
Advantages: Wonderful beaches, castles, villages
Disadvantages: None
...Famous for its beautiful palm beaches, fishing villages and historic towns, wood carving industry, castles and forts which were historically the link between West Africa and the Americas on the Slave Trade route.
The region includes the Kakum National Park which is a fascinating nature reserve of untouched rain forest and is home to some rare animals and birds.
As in all parts of Ghana, the people are known for their hospitality and will welcome visitors to their fishing and trading villages and towns along the coast.
The important towns and villages are:
-Cape Coast: This is an important trading center and historic town and is the site of the historically famous Cape Coast Castle.
-Winneba: This is a fishing village famous for its interesting pottery and ceramics, various festivals and lovely beaches.
-Elmina: This is...
