...Ace Ventura Pet Detective, How are we this afternoon, alrigthy then. Ace ventura was one of the funniest comedy movies to be released in the 1990's. Just after the success of Dumb and Dumber, Carrey moved into the remembral role of the pet detective who searches for lost and stolen pets. In both movies however, he is called in to help for the search of two unique animals/mammals. The first film engages in Ace Ventura searching the Miami Dolphin mascot that has been kidnpped, featuring great supporing cast such as Courtney Cox (Friends) and Dan Marino (Miami Dolphins kicker). The film is witty and you will literally laugh out loud at Carreys character, from fighting with the Maimi Dolphins Mascot to being eaten by a shark, you will find everything in the film funny. Advantages: Carrey is funny, pulling great jokes off perfectly, assisted by able actors intensifying the silliness of Ventura. Hee hee
Disadvantages: ventura can be seen as a tad weak, but if he was serious atall then it owuld ruin the plot, a point especially clear in a scene with Cox where his "serious" side comes out

...The first time I saw this film I shrieked with laughter all the way through and I doubt that noone else could not do the same! This film tickles your funny bone to the core, as we are introduced to Ace Ventura, a pet detctive who is hired to find the stolen mascot of the Miami Dolphons, Snowflake. There are some truly hilarious moments in this film, and although Ventura himself is quite a weak character in himself, the stunts he pulls and the situations he gets himself in - and out - of are hilarious. The plot is a tad unlikely, but it is so well delivered it increases the hilarity of the entire concept! It is comedy of the sillier variety, but for all those who dislike Carrey and the "silly" idea of his work, I say there is a lot of benefit that can be had out of a bit of silliness once in a while. ...If you enjoyed Pet Detective you are bound to enfoy this film. Jim Carrey is on top form in an adventure that includes the usual mayhem. The particularly nasty bad-guy a smooth talking colonial villan seeking to make an illisit fortune gets his cumupance when Ace exposes his dirty dealings. But by far the greatest scene in the film is when Ace gets into competition with the chief of the local tribe. Beware of the magic word chikaka if you want to avoid beibg eaten! The final chase is not to be missed and check out Ace's unparalled parking skills!... Read review

...A hugely funny and very absorbing film. This really does suit Jim Carreys sense of humour and comic timing. His facial expressions along are funny enough to carry this film off. The plot is a bit on the weak side, but the situations that Ace gets himself into make for a hilarious film. It really is funny from start to finnish. This is not all not only do you get the film in gloroius digital picture and sound, but there are a load of extras on the DVD that will keep you absorbed for another couple of hours.Very funny and very good value for money.... ...ace vetura, pet detective, thats his name. hes the best there is, actually he's the only one there is, so here we go! ace vetura is a pet detective, and when a team mascot "snowflake" goes missing, its up to him to find the dolphin nappers and bring snowflake back, with hilareous turn out. so armed with his animal no how and courtney cox, he sets off on a wacky mission to find out the info he need, hunting the bad guys and doing really stupid/funny things as he goes, this film is great, go and buy it, its the best cure for bordom... ...Jim Carrey was extremely good in the Mask. Dumb and Dumber was very funny, if not exactly subtle. Ace Ventura II - When Nature Calls is surely the low point of his career. The basic plot is threadbare, as is the script. The story? Ace Ventura is hired to find a holy animal. Two African tribes will slaughter each other if the animal is not found before a wedding which will bind the tribes. The animal happens to be a bat, the only thing that can scare Ace. Completely ridiculous tosh. Then again, the film has hardly got pretensions of being The Godfather now has it? It is light-hearted fun and there isn't the same need for a beautifully crafted plot. True - the film would be redeemable if it was funny and there lies the rub. The jokes are not even remotely entertaining and seem to pitched at the level of the average six year old. OK... It was Carrey’s breakthrough role and is a showcase for his talents as a rubber faced comedic actor. The threadbare plot that sees Ace saving lives, rescuing dolphins etc. really doesn’t make much sense. But truth be told it doesn’t need to, you won’t care as you’ll be laughing too much. The film is a mix of laugh out loud moments and cringe worthy miss hits that would only appeal to a younger audience. (The infiltration scene set to the Mission Impossible is a standout moment.) Ace Ventura won’t appeal to everybody, it’s not smart and it knows it. It aims for simple laughs that will entertain both young...
