For the price.... Perfect. The acer Aspire 5738ZG
Advantages: ram, processor speed, design, screen, price
Disadvantages: none so far
...for most people.
It has a built in webcam too which gives quite a good picture.
The mouse could be better, it goes a little mental at times but nothing to worry about and it does its job.
The keyboard is fine and easy to use. Battery life is not fantastic, mine lasts about 2.5 hours.
Its lightweight too. Though a largish laptop, its quite portable due to its weight.
What I also like is its fast start up and turn off. Very nice. Its easy to use too. Vista runs smoothly.
The machine cost me £379 at PC world, refurbished. I couldnt have got better for the price and specifications given. You wont find 4 gb RAM and core due 2 processor with 250gb hard disk at this price. I dare you to try. Maybe in a few years.
Very pleased with what I found.

Not Something to Aspire To
Advantages: Cheap and reasonable specs.
Disadvantages: Unreliable/.
...The Acer Aspire is, or more accurately was, a basic entry-level laptop. I say was as you probably can't buy one new any more, but this may be useful for someone buying one second-hand.
I bought my Acer for simple tasks such as browsing the net etc, I have a powerful desktop PC that I use for game playing etc and so I was happy to buy a cheap and low-spec laptop such as the Acer.
Specifications:
The laptop has a 15 inch screen which is fairly small compared to most modern laptops, but fine for just surfing the net etc.
It comes with a Sempron CPU running at 1.8Ghz, which is fine when running Windows XP (The default O/S) but I think it would struggle with Vista, especially when you consider that you get 256 MB RAM.
The 40GB hard drive is small, but again if you are only surfing etc then that should be fine.
The laptop...

Be inspired by the Acer Aspire One A110
Advantages: Price, size, speed
Disadvantages: None so far
...--Background--
My wife has always moaned that she could never get onto the family PC as it was always being used by either my kids or myself. After doing a bit of research, she convinced me to buy her the Acer Aspire One netbook which she would use for web browsing and writing simple documents. I was a bit sceptical of the device, after all, to me it was just a cheap laptop. But, alas, she won and off I went to Currys armed with my credit card to begrudingly buy her one.
--In the box--
The box in which the Aspire comes is very small. You'd be able to fit it under your arm and carry it no problem. As well as the netbook, there was a mains battery charger, a user manual and a recovery cd which I thought was strange considering there isnt a cd driver in the netbook!!
--Initial Setup--
I must admit I found this impressive...

Acer Aspires To Be A Proper Laptop, And Nearly Pulls It Off
Advantages: Very portable, excellent keyboard. Battery life OK but not what is stated
Disadvantages: Slow to boot from 'cold'.
...I've been meaning to get a 'net-book' for some time now. Our current laptop just isn't small enough to justify taking it away on holiday with us, and with a growing number of holiday rentals, even those abroad, boasting wi-fi, now seemed the time to put the bulkier Dell Inspiron 1200 out to pasture. Many people might not want a computer whilst on holiday, welcoming the chance to get away from the bloody things, but not me. I tend to view a holiday as something that's dragging me away from my hobbies, but I'll freely admit it takes all kinds.
PALMTOP, NETBOOK, NOTEBOOK, LAPTOP?
As far as my scant research could tell, there's very little difference between a so-called 'net-book' and a laptop, except the size. In scaling them down, one or two things do however have to 'give'.
One is battery size, and therefore life, although this...

Aspiring to be inspiring! Is this another Ace Acer?
Advantages: SUPERB battery life, relatively portable and very slim.
Disadvantages: For basic and general business use, not games.
...Here we have a very mixed laptop in terms of its features and abilities.
Firstly, I want to make clear that the Acer Aspire 4810T is a laptop to consider for business use, or non-graphics-intensive applications such as Word, Excel and standard internet browsing.
If you are expecting to be able to play the latest video games and run graphics designer packages, then you'd be better off looking at other laptops with better stats than this one.
What it does have in its favour is an increased battery life of around 7 hours, possibly as much as 8 - and a very slim and portable design with a gorgeous 14" screen.
It is in a word SEXY!
Yes, I would consider dating this laptop.
If it were a person.
Which it isn't.
One can dream!
Um, I'm getting sidetracked.......

There is a very reasonable 250GB...

Acer Aspire 5542 Oh dear
Advantages: Great graphics, fast for browsing the net
Disadvantages: Battery life is useless
...Good laptop all in all , fantastic graphics though and extra fast for browsing, but, the battery life is hopeless, 1 to 1 and a half hours use after 24 hours of charging.
Very disappointed that we won't be able to use it on long journeys.
Also no manual, which is ok for people who know computers well and how to set them up. So we struggled a little on the main set up.
It's the first time ever we have had a product that hasn't come with an operating manual or a set up manual. Very disappointed.
Would I advise anyone to buy this product, probably not if they intend using it for taking on journeys or for work purposes.
It's good as a basic model if all you want to do is browse the web and save a few things like photos, but it's no good for gaming, or for holding too many big files....

Acer Aspire 6935G
Advantages: Great look, tv - tuner, great to use, competitive price.
Disadvantages: Off-centre keyboard, less than average battery life.
...I don?t know if you can be a fan of a computer company, but if you can, then I?m an Acer fan (and accidental poet). This laptop is a fine addition to an excellent range.
Look
Lightweight, futuristic, classy and sporting a few unique features, such as an interesting shaped space bar and, for seemingly no reason, an off-centre keyboard, this didn?t bother me that much, but it may be something to consider when buying it. The Acer Aspire 6935G definitely pulls off a look of its own. It is a reasonable size for a laptop and quite ergonomically designed.
Function
It comes with everything you?d expect from a laptop as well as an in-built TV tuner complete with attached remote control. The keyboard, despite being off-centre was well-built and features a standard QWERTY layout; it comes with a reasonably sized and sensitive...

Acer Aspire 7720
Advantages: its speed and performance
Disadvantages: rubbish webcam
...This laptop has fantastic design, its called gemstone and is a very new one from acer and is being used in more and more of their laptops because of its popularity with customers. It does have split opinions however, some love it and some people really cant stand the look of it. I however think its great, its black and cream colour, with a lovely glossy lid looks cool and very neat and tidy. Also what I like about this Is its clearly a design that acer has come up with and kept, and it clearly represents their company. a lot of laptops from other manufacturers just look the same as others and you cant tell what brand they are, this however, much like the look of apples imacs you can tell they belong to which company.
The installed ram on this laptop is great, it has a massive 2gb which is the main reason this laptop runs so fast, also...

Acer Aspire One = Number 1!
Advantages: Small, light, comparativley powerful
Disadvantages: No external DVD drive provided. Protective sleeve
...off battery and therefore lower brightness, this is solved by increasing the brightness (but obviously reduces battery life)
The battery is disappointing compares to the likes of the ASUS EEPC
it is only i think 2200mwh, will last about 2 hours on a full charge, however it should be possible to get a bigger 6600mwh battery at extra cost.
Performance is excellent, even though it is only a 1.6GHz CPU and 1 GB of RAM Windows XP Pro and the Linux OS fly.
Office 2007 is quick and responsive.
I can't think what else to write about it, its cheap no frills, does the job, machine. It will suit anyone on a tight budget wishing to start out on the internet, it will also suit those out on the move a lot but i do recommend getting the better battery if this is the case, or those who want a light portable computer.
For approx £250 you...
