Acer Aspire One = Number 1!
Advantages: Small, light, comparativley powerful
Disadvantages: No external DVD drive provided. Protective sleeve
...up installing XP on it (a challenge without a CD drive but that's another story).
I think would ideally suit anyone who hasn't used a computer before.
If you are one of the majority who have had Micro$oft thrust upon you then go for the Windows version, unless you have the time and patience to install it yourself.
There are 2 SD card slot on this machine, the one on the left hand side is intended for the the version of this laptop with SSD to expand the storage capacity. Stick an SD card in and leave it sort of thing.
The other slot on the right hand side can cope with a few different formats, including SD and this is intended as your normal card reader, say from a digital camera where you take the pictures off and remove the card.
The screen is clear and evenly lit, although I've experienced a slight flickering when running...

Acer plays the Ace card again!
Advantages: Small, lightweight, great performer. Can handle some 3D games.
Disadvantages: None for the Netbook, but Linux version is rubbish.
..., well it's entirely up to you. The memory just now is cheap but the procedure and the way the current memory is installed may put you off. Although 1GB is installed, its actually 2 x 512 MB. One chip is installed in the only slot and the other is permanently soldered to the board. The maximum memory supported in the slot is 1 GB. So the maximum memory would be 1.5 GB. The process of installing more memory isn't as easy as a conventional laptop as you have to take the keyboard off and remove the hard drive. There are many videos on Youtube showing this. Is it worth all the hassle for only 512 MB while in the process wasting another 512 MB? That would be up to you.
In Conclusion
For a portable netbook the Acer A150 performs very well and should rightfully always be regarded as a netbook. Other reviews seem to slate its performance...

One sexy Net Book!!
Advantages: Small for travelling, Fast, Stylish, Great Battery, Webcam Built in.
Disadvantages: No Cd Drive:(
...of course the Acer. It was on special offer of only £199 and included a free 8GB memory expansion card. At first I thought it was too small, but for the price I couldn't go wrong, even if I used it just for travelling and college. So off I went and had the last one left in stock. It looked really cute because of its size and was a metallic blue color, I had to have it!
What is a Net Book?
******************
Well, a Net Book is a really compact laptop designed mainly for use on the internet. They are really small so they are easy to travel with but still have a decently sized screen for ease of use. Net Books are not designed for gaming but will easily handle everyday tasks such as word processing and drawing of course. They also generally have a longer battery life than most laptops due to smaller components such as the screen and no CD...

Great value if you can stand the niggles.
Advantages: Great value for money; nice keyboard for the size.
Disadvantages: Short battery life, no built-in 3G, unconventional mousepad layout.
...This is Acer's entry into the netbook arena and mostly it's a pretty good machine. You get the same Atom CPU as is in most of the other leading contenders, a 1024x600 9-inch screen, 1GB RAM, 160GB Hard drive, 3USB ports and a webcam. This is all for a price a bit less than the competition, although there are a few issues of ergonomics with the machine that you'd want to look at first.
Netbooks generally aren't going to have the same power as laptop and desktop machines, even those that are a few years old. Don't be fooled by the clock speed of the Atom; it's a much simpler processor and doesn't really pack more punch than a Pentium III. The reason netbooks use it is for its low power consumption. Consequently no netbook is going to be good for things like HD video editing, 3D games and computer aided design. However it will handle web...

The best value netbook? yes!
Advantages: Price, performance, choice of colours
Disadvantages: sound
...Sure, it might not smack you in the face and say 'look at me, i'm shiny!' but the acer aspire one has got to be the most reliable, sturdy and best value netbooks around.
Starting of, as i usually do, with a summary of the style of the product, the acer aspire one won't win any beauty paegents, but it is functional in it's design. Sure, i'm not a fan of the whole gap-between-screen-and-hinge look, but it works. The netbook has no real standout design features, but it isn't the ugliest netbook around (step in the advent netbooks please). The aspire ones saving grace is the ability to buy it in several colours: pink, white, blue, black, brown, red, chinchilla... with such a range it is almost certain you can find the colour for you, which normally makes the netbook more attractive anyway.
With regards to build quality, it's great, it...

Be inspired by the Acer Aspire One A110
Advantages: Price, size, speed
Disadvantages: None so far
...--Background--
My wife has always moaned that she could never get onto the family PC as it was always being used by either my kids or myself. After doing a bit of research, she convinced me to buy her the Acer Aspire One netbook which she would use for web browsing and writing simple documents. I was a bit sceptical of the device, after all, to me it was just a cheap laptop. But, alas, she won and off I went to Currys armed with my credit card to begrudingly buy her one.
--In the box--
The box in which the Aspire comes is very small. You'd be able to fit it under your arm and carry it no problem. As well as the netbook, there was a mains battery charger, a user manual and a recovery cd which I thought was strange considering there isnt a cd driver in the netbook!!
--Initial Setup--
I must admit I found this impressive...

Aspire one Small But Mighty
Advantages: Ease Of Use, Size, Out Of Box compatible, Good looking
Disadvantages: Awkward Touchpad, Poor Battery
...I bought this version of the acer aspire one before christmas 2008. Since I bought mine my mother brother and next door neighbour have all been so impressed that they to have purchased the exact same machine.
My machine came pre installed with Linpus lite (lunix) which is a little strange if your used to windows in any form. From getting the machine out of the box i was online within 5 mins. It was so simple.
The 1st thing you will need to do once you get connected is to goto the settings menu and click the live update. This gets all the up to date bits and bobs the aspire one needs to be upto date. This process is almost fully automated and took about 30mins tom update and install.
The software included is more great - its not windows office, but a free version called open office it includes a good word processor, spreadsheet...

Acer Aspire 5738G-644G50MN
Advantages: Bright screen,Huge memory
Disadvantages: Odd Glossy finish, annoying mouse button
...A bright 15.4 inch screen, huge hard disk, and seemingly unlimited levels of memory make this a great home laptop, this to me seems where it is best suited rather than as a business notebook. Its reasonable if not good price make this centrino laptop a very good choice.
- Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit, Sp1)
- Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 (2.00GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
- 15.4? HD Acer CineCrystal LED LCD
- 4GB DDR3 Memory
- 1244 MB Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
- 250 GB Hard Drive
- DVD SuperMultiDl with BluRay disc drive
- 0.3 megapixel integrated webcam
- Purchased from PC World £450
Build:
While i wouldn't say its likely to fall apart, this laptop isn't one i would fancy dropping down the stairs. After days the incredibly glossy rear screen was scratched and lead me to buying...

For the price.... Perfect. The acer Aspire 5738ZG
Advantages: ram, processor speed, design, screen, price
Disadvantages: none so far
...After giving up on my 2003 Packard Bell laptop, I decided to buy a new one. Now with 1000's of laptops available on the market. Where do you start? How do you decide which one is better than the other.
First look at your budget. I had up to £400 to play with. You can get a good Laptop for this price nowadays. Whats a good laptop?
I wanted something fast. Tired of wating yonks for web pages to load. Tired of crashing programs. So good RAM too.
For speed you need a good processor and RAM. With this computer I got both at a good price. 4 gb of RAM and a intel core duo 2 processor wont leave you stuck in mud.
I wanted a good quality screen too. It has a nice and bright 14.5 inch screen, It is glossy and slick. Very nice. You can watch movies on it no problem and video games too.
Mine came with 150gb of hard drive. Enough...

Ipod Classic - 160GB
Advantages: Size, Workmanship, Functionality
Disadvantages: Zero support for some old peripherals, crashes car stereo , Bit heavy!
...Initially I bought this for my commute to work. Having owned a IPod video 30 gig which suffered long term abuse, and being dropped countless times - I decided to splash out and treat myself.
The IPod classic - well, there is not much difference functionality then the IPod video.
Opening any product made by apple is a joy in itself - one does wonder how long they deliberate over the pretty box! Getting over the box design, the IPod is neatly presented - with the contents kept in individual packaging.
Once I tapped the play button, the usual setup menu was a welcoming sight and I continued the usual setup process. However you can setup the IPod by hooking it directly to the laptop and launching ITunes.
Synced the IPod up to my library - and have been happy since! The audio quality is excellent, sync times are more then...
