Acer Aspire One = Number 1!
Advantages: Small, light, comparativley powerful
Disadvantages: No external DVD drive provided. Protective sleeve
...up installing XP on it (a challenge without a CD drive but that's another story).
I think would ideally suit anyone who hasn't used a computer before.
If you are one of the majority who have had Micro$oft thrust upon you then go for the Windows version, unless you have the time and patience to install it yourself.
There are 2 SD card slot on this machine, the one on the left hand side is intended for the the version of this laptop with SSD to expand the storage capacity. Stick an SD card in and leave it sort of thing.
The other slot on the right hand side can cope with a few different formats, including SD and this is intended as your normal card reader, say from a digital camera where you take the pictures off and remove the card.
The screen is clear and evenly lit, although I've experienced a slight flickering when running...

Be inspired by the Acer Aspire One A110
Advantages: Price, size, speed
Disadvantages: None so far
...--Background--
My wife has always moaned that she could never get onto the family PC as it was always being used by either my kids or myself. After doing a bit of research, she convinced me to buy her the Acer Aspire One netbook which she would use for web browsing and writing simple documents. I was a bit sceptical of the device, after all, to me it was just a cheap laptop. But, alas, she won and off I went to Currys armed with my credit card to begrudingly buy her one.
--In the box--
The box in which the Aspire comes is very small. You'd be able to fit it under your arm and carry it no problem. As well as the netbook, there was a mains battery charger, a user manual and a recovery cd which I thought was strange considering there isnt a cd driver in the netbook!!
--Initial Setup--
I must admit I found this impressive...

For the price.... Perfect. The acer Aspire 5738ZG
Advantages: ram, processor speed, design, screen, price
Disadvantages: none so far
...After giving up on my 2003 Packard Bell laptop, I decided to buy a new one. Now with 1000's of laptops available on the market. Where do you start? How do you decide which one is better than the other.
First look at your budget. I had up to £400 to play with. You can get a good Laptop for this price nowadays. Whats a good laptop?
I wanted something fast. Tired of wating yonks for web pages to load. Tired of crashing programs. So good RAM too.
For speed you need a good processor and RAM. With this computer I got both at a good price. 4 gb of RAM and a intel core duo 2 processor wont leave you stuck in mud.
I wanted a good quality screen too. It has a nice and bright 14.5 inch screen, It is glossy and slick. Very nice. You can watch movies on it no problem and video games too.
Mine came with 150gb of hard drive. Enough...

Acer aspire one A110
Advantages: Fast and ultra portable
Disadvantages: There is no disadvantage to owning this computer
...I own the 8GB linux version in white. It is cute and compact with a glossy finish.
The Aspire One running linux is surprisingly fast considering its 512MB of ram.
It is perfect for wirelessly browsing the web using fire fox.
The keyboard is just short of full size making it the perfect tool for typing an e-mail or essay whilst out and about.
The open office documents can be saved as word, powerpoint or excel documents so they are microsoft compatible.
I chose the 8GB version for the increased durability, I have not yet filled the hard drive but when I do there is a storage expansion slot which will take an SD card.
The Aspire one is a great little computer well worth its small price tag...

The Acer AspireOne; good, but could be better.
Advantages: Small and portable. Has a good messenger.
Disadvantages: Can't download anything, and does not have a CD drive. Also is fairly low on memory
...I bought the acer one as it seemed a good buy, it was cheap and fulfilled all my basic needs, which as a teenager are basically to be able to get online and use a messenger, which this laptop does definitly allow me to do.
The messenger is very good, allowing you to sign into multiple accounts on one messenger. Meaning you can sign onto your yahoo messenger and MSN at the same time, always useful.
The system is also very quick at loading and runs smoothly. I can get online within a minute of turning on, which definitly beats my desktop.
The only things I found I was disappointed with was the fact I cannot download games etc., use iTunes, or play CD's, but as it cost so little, it is very hard to complain.
I wouldnt recommend this to anyone who needs to do a lot of work or business based things, but for basic needs such as browsing...

Acer Aspires To Be A Proper Laptop, And Nearly Pulls It Off
Advantages: Very portable, excellent keyboard. Battery life OK but not what is stated
Disadvantages: Slow to boot from 'cold'.
...version of Vista', to which someone else quipped (not me I might add, but it does come under the category of things I wish I'd said!), "I didn't think you could polish a t**d!".
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
"Doesn't it look pretty?" being one of them, as it gleams all shiny and metallic maroon at you.
"Isn't it slim?" being another. Stripped of a DVD drive it's only a tad over 1" thick when folded up.
Having an 11.6" diagonal screen prevents it from being ultra-narrow, but if it was, there'd have to be some compromise on the size of keys used on the keyboard, and that criticism certainly can't be levelled at this little beauty with its '100% Finger Tip Keyboard'. Honestly, full-sized keys straight from a normal Acer laptop. All they've done is shave a millimeter off the gap surrounding them. These keys are the nicest and most well-proportioned I...

Acer plays the Ace card again!
Advantages: Small, lightweight, great performer. Can handle some 3D games.
Disadvantages: None for the Netbook, but Linux version is rubbish.
..., listen to music and write documents or chat then this will be adequate for you. Linux is easy to use and the version on this Netbook is icon driven making it easy to get to what you want. Linux comes pre-installed and there is a copy supplied on disc.
Installing Windows XP
Another reviewer said it was "a challenge" to install XP but didn't furnish us with info on how he done it. If you're thinking of installing Vista or even Windows 7 then don't bother. First of all they are more demanding and the memory in the Netbook isn't sufficient enough. The Acer doesn't have an internal CD drive so you will need to purchase an external one. You can get them for as little as £30 and they are sold in many places. I bought one in Tesco's because they had the best price.
To install XP, power up the drive, plug the USB cable into the computer...

One sexy Net Book!!
Advantages: Small for travelling, Fast, Stylish, Great Battery, Webcam Built in.
Disadvantages: No Cd Drive:(
...of course the Acer. It was on special offer of only £199 and included a free 8GB memory expansion card. At first I thought it was too small, but for the price I couldn't go wrong, even if I used it just for travelling and college. So off I went and had the last one left in stock. It looked really cute because of its size and was a metallic blue color, I had to have it!
What is a Net Book?
******************
Well, a Net Book is a really compact laptop designed mainly for use on the internet. They are really small so they are easy to travel with but still have a decently sized screen for ease of use. Net Books are not designed for gaming but will easily handle everyday tasks such as word processing and drawing of course. They also generally have a longer battery life than most laptops due to smaller components such as the screen and no CD...

Acer Aspire 2920 Aspire to one
Advantages: Large Hard Drive and RAM, fast ,good range of features
Disadvantages: No anti glare screen ,keys a little small lack some positiveness
...Despite having a home pc it is sometimes necessary to have access to one when not at home I therefore decided the time had come to invest in a laptop. Like desktops there are numerous makes models and specifications available. As with a lot of things it is a balancing act between prices and features and eventually I chose the Acer Aspire 2920 Which I paid £460 for by shopping around
About the Acer 2920
By laptop standards it might not be the smallest or lightest available but do not let that deter you from giving it due consideration so what do you get for your money
At first view you get a stylish looking piece of equipment it has a glossy black finish which makes a change a lot seem to be a silver /grey colour
When you lift the lid you might be a bit disappointed by the interior I know I was the keyboard and surround is a matt...
