Reviews of acer dvd-rw drive
An excellent Acer
Review of Acer TravelMate 800LCi - Pentium M 1.3 GHz - 15" TFT by
little-gremlin
Advantages: Value for money
Disadvantages: thin instruction booklet
...I have just bought myself an Acer 803LMi laptop. Features include 1.6GHz Intel M Centrino processor, Intel 855PM chipset, WI-FI, 15.0" SXGA+ TFT screen, ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 3D graphic, 40Gb HDD, 512 MB DDR and DVD-RW.
I am very happy with it. My buying criteria were that it should have the new Intel M processor with as high a processing speed as possible (so it would not be outdated too fast) and a DVD-RW so I can burn films shot on my camcorder onto disk.
It cost (with separate floppy drive and extended warranty) £1699 inc vat from www.technoworld.com
Software: The laptop comes with Windows XP installed, Norton Anti-virus (90 day trial) DVD burning software and AVRack. MS Office is an additional £245 inc VAT. The software highlights the first, and only real problem withthe ACER - very little literature. I have had...

What to write on a DVD-RW?
Review of Imation Corp. DVD+RW 4.7 GB 4x by
Ollydv
Advantages: Good quality, nice price, oooh a spindle
Disadvantages: same as most dvd-rw's
...Ok so yesterday I wrote a review on a CD-R, so I thought that I would move on and review a DVD+RW today.
These aren't the discs I usually use for my DVDs, actually I have only used them once, but I think I will be using them more in the future. They are great. They are a nice price compared to a lot of others, and they are pretty durable.
Reliability…
In my CD-R review I mentioned errors while burning CDs, and errors while burning DVDs was pretty much mandatory for me, until I started using these. I have only ever come across 2 errors, and they were my fault anyway for opening the drive in the middle of burning. Before I bought a DVD-RW drive, I used to make VCDs most of the time, as they were quick and easy. But since I have been using these, there is no need for VCDs as the discs give me no trouble at all.
Use…
Obviously...

Acer Aspire 3613WLMi
Review of Acer Aspire 3613WLMi - Celeron M 370 1.5 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
danfellowes
Advantages: Practical
Disadvantages: Improveable
...This is the Acer Aspire 3613WLMi laptop computer. Stats it gives on the actual laptop seem like a good place to start:
Intel Celeron M Processor 370
(1.5GHz, 400 MHz FSB, 1MB L2 cache)
15.4" WXGA CrystalBrite TFT LCD
40GB
DVD-Dual double layer
(Supports DVD+R Double layer/ DVD+/-RW)
512MB DDR2 (support dual-channel)
802.11 b/g wireless LAN
Right so the laptop itself is pretty decent even if a little dated by now. It runs fine and at a decent speed. It has enough RAM at 512MB to not have to worry about it being able to run things unless you're after brand new games. The laptop I have is just used for text and photo editing work which it can handle absolutely perfectly.
It contains a DVD rewriter in the side which works very well. I have had problems with all other DVD rewriters but this works very well through Windows...

Freecom Classic DVD+/-RW *Double Layer.
Review of Freecom Classic DVD+/-RW Double Layer by
derek-j-a
Advantages: Can be moved from PC to PC, lighweight, robust, reliable, fast
Disadvantages: None so far...
...Rewriter that most computers have these days).***
With both drive bays taken up on my PC, I decided on an external DVD Writer drive. Although more expensive than internal drive, it could easily be connected to my lap top should I wish to take my masterpieces and inflict them on people who didn't own DVD players. I jest of course!
In PC world, there were several external DVD drives on the shelves, but having had an external CD writer by Freecom which had been extremely reliable, I opted for the High Speed (USB2) Classic DVD+/-RW Double Layer model. It was the most expensive at just over £120 at the time (much cheaper now, see below), but the best available.
The Hardware:
In the box was a black DVD RW which was slim and lightweight (it was also available in white), the USB connector cable, the power transformer/cable (PSU- power...

Acer Aspire 5051AWXMi
Review of Acer Aspire 5051AWXMi - Turion 64 mobile technology MK-36 2 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
thomaswormald1
Advantages: Cheap, Good Spec.
Disadvantages: Speakers, Pre-loaded Software
...it accepts. Windows says it is a DVD-RAM drive, I've seen on once website it's a DVD+RW DL, and on another site DVD-RW DL.
The laptop comes pre-installed with Windows Media Center Edition, with a free upgrade to Windows Vista Home Premuim (although I'm not sure I'll "upgrade"). Also pre-installed is Norton Anti-Virus with a 90 day licence, and lots of useless Acer software that I uninstalled without even finding out what it was. It seems slightly useless having Windows MCE as there is no TV Tuner, and I can't get the S-Video Out to work.
The Acer Aspire 50501AWXMi is a very good laptop for the money, and I would recommend it for surfing the internet, listening to music and watching videos. It plays games, but not aswell as a desktop for the same price would....

great new acer laptop
Review of Acer TravelMate 7514WSMi - Turion 64 X2 TL-56 - 17" TFT by
punk_rocker
Advantages: very fast
Disadvantages: none, really!!
...travelmate 7512's hard drive space.
They probably upgraded this to 160 GB because 80 GB wasn't really enough for most people. However I must say iv never been able to fill any laptop of mine with over 160 GB of data, however there may also be people out there who'll go through 160gb easily.
If you do need more storage, you can easily use memory cards by pushing them into the laptops 5 in 1 card reader, which reads any of, SD Memory Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, MultiMediaCard, xD-Picture Cards.
Also you can easily burn data onto disks using the travelmates DVD±RW (+R double layer) / DVD-RAM - integrated compact disk player, and burner.
Its great to see this acer has a 17 inch screen too, seen as a lot of other acers only had 15.2 inch screens.
Another extra feature this laptop has is its built in webcam. This webcams only 0.3 mega...

Lacie DVD +/- RW
Review of LaCie Dual DVD+/-RW DVD±RW drive by
markays
Advantages: reliable, burns cds well, good compatibility
Disadvantages: dvd writing speed slow, not very portable
...Features:
Can Burn: DVD +/- RW, CD RW
Using: Firewire, USB 2.0, USB 1 (only at slower speeds)
Operating Systems: Windows (all), Mac
Free Software: Roxio Suite, WinDVD Player
Speeds: 4x Typical for DVD, 32x Typical for CDs
Other Important Features: Burn Proof
Installation:
The installation was very simple under Windows XP, I managed to get the drive working with Nero, Windows and all my dvd burning software very quickly.
Reliability:
Every CD and DVD i have burnt has worked perfectly. The cds can be read much faster and rarely fail, even after using in over 120 pcs one after another. This writer burns much more professionally than other writers i have.
Portability:
None, this thing is heavier than a brick, don't even consider carrying it anywhere. I think it's ideal if you've got more than one pc at home (or...

ACE ACER
Review of Acer Aspire 3692WLMi - Celeron M 420 - 15.4" TFT by
allyoxley
Advantages: Great Wide Screen , Roomy Keyboard
Disadvantages: Not great user's guides
...After a small windfall, me and my husband decided to treat ourselves, my hubby got his Sat Nav (see my review) and I got my long awaited laptop.
I have got a desktop, but was sick of my front room loking like an office and listening to my kiddies games whilst trying to watch TV. So after a great deal of homework I decided to go for the New Aspire 3692WLMi.
My main reason for choosing this laptop was a) the price, it cost me £399 from Comets, and (b) the memory. Aside from that I was also impressed with the design and layout on the whole.
Well before I go into more detail I will get the specifications buff out of the way.
The Aspire comes with an Intel Celeron M Processor 420.
The Screen is 15.4" and has WXGA Crystalbrite LCD.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
Storage Hard Drive 60 GB
Memory 1024 B
DVD...

Aspire to an Acer
Review of Acer Aspire 1680 by
click2start
Advantages: Extensive features and ports, wifi capability, multimedia facitlities
Disadvantages: not many, usb ports are a bit too close together
...(mobile enabled processor)
- 15.4" widscreen LCD screen
- 60GB hard drive
- DVD-Dual drive (DVD+R, DVD+-RW; rewritable DVD)
- front and side access ports (usb, dv, flash card and memory stick)
- Firewire port
- DV capture port (and video capture software)
- front headphone port is very handy
- Windows XP
What's it not got:
- no MS Office (just MS Works)
- software bundle is limited but adequate (but at least you don't pay for stuff you don't actually want or need)
What's good:
- Its fast
- Wireless technology works well and simply
- Its great looking
- Its low price against the competition like for like
What's not so good:
- Amazingly its probably already out of date :-(
- Two side USB ports are too close together
- spacebar needs a firm tap to register
- That's it ... the rest is great.
I am happy...

Acer Aspire 2920 Aspire to one
Review of Acer Aspire 2920 by
raregreyastra
Advantages: Large Hard Drive and RAM, fast ,good range of features
Disadvantages: No anti glare screen ,keys a little small lack some positiveness
...is the addition of a separate volume control on the front which is a lot more convenient than having to fiddle through the keyboard Also provided is a coaxial output for connection this can be connected to a Dolby Home theatre so you can have the benefit of watching DVD's with Dolby Virtual sound through your headphones thanks to the inbuilt DVD drive.
Other features include 3USB ports a memory card reader there is also an Express Card slot which would make it an easy matter to add a TV tuner
How long will it run a single battery charge?
This obviously depends very much on how the computer is being used. In my experience I have found in general light use it has lasted about 4 hours if watching a DVD this comes down to about 2hours 45mins more than enough for most films.
Have Acer got it right and is there room for improvement?
The short answer...
