Acer Extensa 5620-1A2G12Mi
Advantages: great spec, better price.
Disadvantages: could look a little better
...This laptop is the Acer Extensa 5620-1A2G12Mi. The extensa is a new model from acer and although they have been working on it for over a year now it wasn’t until a few months ago that these laptops went on sale. I still don’t think that it’s a brand of acer laptops that most people will be familiar with yet however I think it will grow and they will get better and more and more people will buy them just like what happened with the travel mate and the aspires.
Its basically a follow up from the Acer aspire however the aspires were made mainly to keep at home and for a laptop to use around the house. These new extensa models though are not only made or that but also incorporate the design specification of the older travel mate models so that they are also quite portable so really it gives you the opportunity to use your...

Acer Extensa 5210 notebook

...Acer Extensa 5210, DDR2 512MB, 80GB HHD, 1.6ghz Celeron processor, WLAN, DVD writer:
My laptop came with a Windows Vista basic installation. (For those who would like to instal Windows XP your warrant may fly through the window. I needed to get XP SATA drivers on floppy to install XP...and also changed the bios version (refer to instruction on acer website).
Anyone purchasing it will notice that it has a blue tooth adapter sliding switch on the front face, only that I did not realise at first glance that there was actually no bluetooth adapter inside. One has to buy an external bluetooth adapter to use with this laptop...but the laptop has bluetooth capability...only no internal BT adapter.
Overall perforemance: good...

Acer Aspire 5738G-644G50MN
Advantages: Bright screen,Huge memory
Disadvantages: Odd Glossy finish, annoying mouse button
...A bright 15.4 inch screen, huge hard disk, and seemingly unlimited levels of memory make this a great home laptop, this to me seems where it is best suited rather than as a business notebook. Its reasonable if not good price make this centrino laptop a very good choice.
- Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit, Sp1)
- Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 (2.00GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
- 15.4? HD Acer CineCrystal LED LCD
- 4GB DDR3 Memory
- 1244 MB Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
- 250 GB Hard Drive
- DVD SuperMultiDl with BluRay disc drive
- 0.3 megapixel integrated webcam
- Purchased from PC World £450
Build:
While i wouldn't say its likely to fall apart, this laptop isn't one i would fancy dropping down the stairs. After days the incredibly glossy rear screen was scratched and lead me to buying...

brand new range from acer
Advantages: lots of uses
Disadvantages: design hasnt changed much
...This laptop is from the leading laptop manufacturer at the moment which is Acer. They have only recently in the past few years become better known for their laptops and desktops and because of their good customer service great laptops and all at a cheap price they are now at selling other companies like dell and Sony at laptops.
This one is the Acer Extensa 5620-1A1G12Mi. The Acer extensa is a really new model of laptop from Acer and there have already been quite a few introduced by Acer in the past month. They have been working on this new type of laptop for quite a while now and there will be a lot more laptops to come out of the extensa model.
Its basically a follow up from the Acer aspire however the aspires were made mainly to keep at home and for a laptop to use around the house. These new extensa models though are not only...

Acer Laptop, power not to the top.
Advantages: It's snazzy, looks professional and does the job.
Disadvantages: it doesn't have a webcam, it's slow and the wi-fi is overactive.
...installed Sims 3, this was not the case. Meaning that I now have to buy an external hard drive because of the lack of memory. I know many of you will say this is your own fault for installing the game on, however, I feel that a laptop is made for all purposes, meaning that it should have a good amount of memory on.
Battery Life
I feel that the battery life is pretty good with an average of 2 hours once fully charged, however it never lasts 2 hours. The good thing about it is you can charge it while you are using it- I understand that with some other laptops this can be a bit of a problem, however with this one it is perfectly fine. One thing I have found is that the battery life never really sticks to the predicted time it has left, this will only be accurate if you leave it in a room and just don?t touch it. However, if you are using it all...

Acer plays the Ace card again!
Advantages: Small, lightweight, great performer. Can handle some 3D games.
Disadvantages: None for the Netbook, but Linux version is rubbish.
...only because the reviewers are comparing it to something more powerful or expecting more. For me, installing XP was the right thing to do as I can install all my usual programs which isn't possible with Linux. As the performance was more than I was expecting I can't fault it and considering the hardware installed and the price paid I was not expecting such a performance. The battery life for some may not be enough but as its only intended for browsing, checking mail and the like, it's good enough for me. Other batteries are available from around £60 and will extend usage to 6 hours. It's better to buy Acer branded ones.
On a recent cruise the A150 was a dream to have for keeping in touch with the kids back home and being so small you hardly even know you're carrying it. The ability to play some older games was a bonus I wasn't expecting...

Hot, black and in my lap.
Advantages: Robust, decent enough basic function
Disadvantages: Not much software, runs slow, pointless hard drive partition
...I last reviewed a budget laptop at the tail end of 2000. It had cost me £1,000 and I didn't like it much.
Now I'm typing this review on an exponentially faster laptop with more than 40 times the hard disk space, and it was a quarter of the price. Truly, we are living in the future.
I still don't like it much.
Extensa 5220
I bought this machine so I could work on novels and short stories without leaving my bed. I really am that lazy and I make no apology for it.
To look at, it's a totally standard laptop, the screen folds down over the keyboard with a single catch at the front. There's one of those trackpad things which people seem to hate so much, but I've never had a problem with them at all. There are a few variations of this model, and some have a built-in webcam. Mine is probably the last laptop ever built that...

Acer Aspire One = Number 1!
Advantages: Small, light, comparativley powerful
Disadvantages: No external DVD drive provided. Protective sleeve
...off battery and therefore lower brightness, this is solved by increasing the brightness (but obviously reduces battery life)
The battery is disappointing compares to the likes of the ASUS EEPC
it is only i think 2200mwh, will last about 2 hours on a full charge, however it should be possible to get a bigger 6600mwh battery at extra cost.
Performance is excellent, even though it is only a 1.6GHz CPU and 1 GB of RAM Windows XP Pro and the Linux OS fly.
Office 2007 is quick and responsive.
I can't think what else to write about it, its cheap no frills, does the job, machine. It will suit anyone on a tight budget wishing to start out on the internet, it will also suit those out on the move a lot but i do recommend getting the better battery if this is the case, or those who want a light portable computer.
For approx £250 you...
