Acer plays the Ace card again!

Advantages: Small, lightweight, great performer. Can handle some 3D games.
Disadvantages: None for the Netbook, but Linux version is rubbish.

...I have revised my review after using the netbook for a while. I purchased the Acer A150 because I was going on a cruise and wanted something small and light. I decided on the Linux version of this netbook for £235, the Windows XP version is around £269. The Operating System First thing I need to say about it is Linux, what a joke with its limited functions and the hassle you need to go through to add new features. I wanted DivX support so I could watch movies at night but after a few hours looking for a suitable program and drivers I gave up. Linux isn't as straightforward as Windows and in many cases you have to open up a console and type commands when you want to install or make changes to an installation. The Acer AspireOne; good, but could be better.

Advantages: Small and portable. Has a good messenger.
Disadvantages: Can't download anything, and does not have a CD drive. Also is fairly low on memory

...I bought the acer one as it seemed a good buy, it was cheap and fulfilled all my basic needs, which as a teenager are basically to be able to get online and use a messenger, which this laptop does definitly allow me to do. The messenger is very good, allowing you to sign into multiple accounts on one messenger. Meaning you can sign onto your yahoo messenger and MSN at the same time, always useful. The system is also very quick at loading and runs smoothly. I can get online within a minute of turning on, which definitly beats my desktop. The only things I found I was disappointed with was the fact I cannot download games etc., use iTunes, or play CD's, but as it cost so little, it is very hard to complain. I wouldnt recommend this to anyone who needs to do a lot of work or business based things, but for basic needs such as browsing...

Acer Aspires To Be A Proper Laptop, And Nearly Pulls It Off

Advantages: Very portable, excellent keyboard. Battery life OK but not what is stated

Likewise, they were all sporting Windows XP Home Version as their operating system. The doubtful benefits of a shift to Vista seem to have been resisted presumably to keep the price down, in the hope no doubt, that Windows 7 was 'just around the corner', which of course for main stream machines, it is. Acer, not so Ace.

Advantages: Looks alright, cheap, simple, DVD writer
Disadvantages: Feels and looks cheap, easily damaged, poor speakers

...So I've been borrowing my mums Acer Aspire 3610 since November to help me with my uni work and I must admit it's not as good as it perhaps should be, or maybe i just have high standards. Then again it's not completely bad news, so we'll start with the good news (what little their is) 500mb ram, 1.50 Ghz and all of this for under £400 (with free 3 year complete warranty when my mum bought it). And the DVD writer works fine for me, as do the USB ports and the such. The warranty I'll admit will be persued upon when the state of this becomes worse, but currently it's a case of neccesity for me to use it and so maybe doing my work on it does lead me to disliking it a bit more than I should.
