...for most people. It has a built in webcam too which gives quite a good picture. The mouse could be better, it goes a little mental at times but nothing to worry about and it does its job. The keyboard is fine and easy to use. Battery life is not fantastic, mine lasts about 2.5 hours. Its lightweight too. Though a largish laptop, its quite portable due to its weight. What I also like is its fast start up and turn off. Very nice. Its easy to use too. Vista runs smoothly. The machine cost me £379 at PC world, refurbished. I couldnt have got better for the price and specifications given. You wont find 4 gb RAM and core due 2 processor with 250gb hard disk at this price. I dare you to try. Maybe in a few years. Acer Aspires To Be A Proper Laptop, And Nearly Pulls It Off

Nice laptop, FAB extended warranty!

Advantages: Good specs, fast, wonderful extended warranties
Disadvantages: Feels a bit flimsy, no indicator lights showing wifi connection, etc.

.... My husband really enjoys this laptop for playing games, but that is not the laptop's main purpose for him and anyone who wants a gaming machine probably needs to do some research. It doesn't have indicator lights showing when the hard drive is working or when wifi is connected or when it's running on battery power (like my old Dell Inspiron does). Some people hate that. I'm not too bothered as I rarely paid attention to those lights, anyway. It also has buttons on the keypad to let you mute or change volume, which is very nice as my husband's last laptop didn't have that and it seemed to take forever for him to get the volume down if an ad popped up or a page had music! Dell Inspiron 1545 - good entry level laptop

Advantages: Cheap, good brand, lots of features,
Disadvantages: Probably not powerful enough for games, bottom of the market now

...family's files were lost in the reinstall, so I didn't even have to restore things from backup. Like other Inspiron laptops, the computer feels reasonably solid, weighing about 2.5kg. The finish is very shiny and doesn't feel cheap. The TrueLife screen offers excellent viewing quality, but is very reflective. I found the widescreen ratio to be a little bit hard to get used to - the screen is shorter and wider, so you have to page down more often. The computer connected easily to the wireless router, which was just as well because the Ethernet port came loose after only a few months. The battery life wasn't fantastic, but if you mainly use it plugged in, then this isn't an issue. The keyboard was much like any other laptop keyboard - obviously the keys don't go down as far as a regular keyboard that comes with a desktop and sound a bit clicky...

...I for one, absolutely love the look of this acer. The bottom of the laptop just looks really cool, and the top looks ok too. One only criticism on the look, would be that the plastic at the tip of the screen is a little thick, but then again it does have a built in webcam, so I suppose that makes up for it. This is a very compact travel mate, with only a 14.1\" TFT active matrix screen, however the quality of this screen is great. This laptop isn't really that fast to be honest, however if your not using memory demanding programs or wanting to play new games on it then maybe its 512mb of built in ram is good enough for you. But, like I say, if your not sure of what ram you will need, then your better just getting a better laptop rather then buying this for a bit cheaper and getting frustrated because its so slow. Advantages: Small, lightweight, great performer. Can handle some 3D games.
Disadvantages: None for the Netbook, but Linux version is rubbish.

...can dim even more by using the "FN" key with the appropriate blue highlighted function key. The screen has a maximum resolution of 1024x600 and it's very clear and easy on the eyes. A webcam is integrated on the top middle of the frame surrounding the screen. Maximum resolution is 600x400 but is a very clear result. The screen flickers ever so slightly when running on battery power but its hardly noticeable and an acceptable trade off in my opinion. Using the power adapter, this goes away. The keyboard small but well laid out. It's easy enough to use and I've not had any more typo's than on my standard keyboard. The keys are quite soft with no noisy clicking. I think i spent £700 on it but it's worth it, I've had it a year and it's still top of it's range beating any commercial laptop.
