ACER 17" TFT MONITOR FROM THEIR LCD VALUE LINE
Advantages: Good value, lots of adjustable features
Disadvantages: Poor viewing angles
...My second attempt at a technical product review focuses on my Acer 17" TFT Monitor AL1711. I bought it as part of a computer package around 12 months ago - purchased seperately it will set you back around £325 incl VAT. My knowledge on computer components and accessories at that time was pretty basic to say the least, so I relied entirely on the expertise of a very capable sales assistant at a trusted, highly praised specialist shop on the outskirts of Shrewsbury. The basic package didn't include a flat screen monitor so I paid around £180 extra as I wanted to avoid the eyestrain and headaches so often experienced with conventional screens.
The computer package was delivered a week later and despite my limited experience, I managed to follow the colour coded cable system and had everything ready to go in a couple of hours...

Acer Aspire 5738G-644G50MN
Advantages: Bright screen,Huge memory
Disadvantages: Odd Glossy finish, annoying mouse button
...A bright 15.4 inch screen, huge hard disk, and seemingly unlimited levels of memory make this a great home laptop, this to me seems where it is best suited rather than as a business notebook. Its reasonable if not good price make this centrino laptop a very good choice.
- Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit, Sp1)
- Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 (2.00GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
- 15.4? HD Acer CineCrystal LED LCD
- 4GB DDR3 Memory
- 1244 MB Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
- 250 GB Hard Drive
- DVD SuperMultiDl with BluRay disc drive
- 0.3 megapixel integrated webcam
- Purchased from PC World £450
Build:
While i wouldn't say its likely to fall apart, this laptop isn't one i would fancy dropping down the stairs. After days the incredibly glossy rear screen was scratched and lead me to buying...

Acer plays the Ace card again!
Advantages: Small, lightweight, great performer. Can handle some 3D games.
Disadvantages: None for the Netbook, but Linux version is rubbish.
...I have revised my review after using the netbook for a while.
I purchased the Acer A150 because I was going on a cruise and wanted something small and light. I decided on the Linux version of this netbook for £235, the Windows XP version is around £269.
The Operating System
First thing I need to say about it is Linux, what a joke with its limited functions and the hassle you need to go through to add new features. I wanted DivX support so I could watch movies at night but after a few hours looking for a suitable program and drivers I gave up. Linux isn't as straightforward as Windows and in many cases you have to open up a console and type commands when you want to install or make changes to an installation. I gave up and Installed Xp pro. If you are purchasing a Netbook with Linux and all you want to do is surf the net...

37" Flat Screen LCD
Advantages: Good quality picture, easy to install
Disadvantages: no connecter aerial in the package
...I have owned this Samsung television for a year now and have been very pleased with it's performance. I would say it was of average price for an LCD TV of this size at around £600.
It was easy to install (although no aerial lead was included in the packaging) and the channel auto install was simple. The picture quality is very good, well defined, and colours are bright and sharp. Colours are even throughout the screen, with no fading or darker patches. The teletext functions are also good, with bright displays.
The sound quality is excellent, defined and clear with no muffling. The remote control included in the packaging is basic but does the job.
The TV is easy to clean, although as with most television sets attracts alot of dust! This does show up quite alot owing to the shiny black frame of the set. This can not be...

ACER AL1951As TFT Monitor
Advantages: Crystalbrite Background, DVI, 8ms response
Disadvantages: Bulky power supply
...I had this monitor sent to me by Acer after my previous monitor, the AL1914 was deemed beyond repair. My first thoughts were of excitement as the 1951 was of a considderably higher spec than the old monitor.
My excitement became a reality when I got the monitor set up. On opening the box, I found the monitor itself, the power supply, and both a VGA and DVI cable. The stand was already pre-fixed to the monitor and this also doubles up as a wall mounting bracket, should you wish to attach the monitor to the wall. On the back of the base there are sockets for the mains power supply, one for the VGA cable, one for the DVI cable and one for an audio feed, should you wish to make use of the monitors internal speaker. Personally I prefer to use my own speakers so I am unable to comment on this feature.
The first thing you will notice...

Acer P193W 19" Monitor
Advantages: Good picture quality at a cheap price
Disadvantages: No DVI input (or not on mine anyway!)
...I bought the monitor from Play.com for £150 about 6 months ago, and I was pleasantly surprised, The picture quality is good and It was very good value for money.
However there is one setback. The monitor does not include a digital DVI input, only standard VGI, which is a shame, however apart from this it is a great monitor, that allows for budget wide screen viewing. I use it for watching movies, playing games and for reviewing documents and it has never let me down yet. With a 5ms refresh rate it is perfectly capable for showing fast moving images (it can refresh as quick as your eyes can see! at 20 frames per second).
Overall I would recommend this monitor to anybody looking for a cheap but quality screen. if you have a bit more money then I suggest buying a Samsung, as Acer monitors are generally regarded as the budget end....

excellent, cheap acer monitor
Advantages: crystal clear screen, great to look at
Disadvantages: none
...I bought this acer model about a month ago as a birthday present for myself as i wanted a replacement for my rather bulky and ancient old monitor (it looked like it came out of the stone ages the amount of space it took up on my desk!!). I also wanted to have a bigger screen size so i could fit more msn messenger chat windows on the screen, without having to have miniscule icons! Having just finished Uni, i was looking for a cheap monitor that would perform well, and basically just be an improvement on my old one. I had no desire for anything fancy!
And i have to say that i was impressed with it the moment i took it out of the box, and before i had even turned it on! Being silver (with a kind of dark grey stand) i thought it looked very attractive, and once i turned it on i was instantly impressed with the quality of the screen...

Cheap flat screen LCD TV better than dearer ones
Advantages: cheap, small, good enough picture and sound quality for us
Disadvantages: haven't really found any
...prefer to keep my distance from anything to do with setting up electrical goods but my partner tells me that this Bush was pretty fiddly to set up. Even worse after a few days of a fairly indifferent picture and sound quality it gave up the ghost and packed up completely. So we took it back to Tescos, decided we didn't want another one, saw the Digilogic again with its excellent picture and decided to give it a try and get a refund for the difference in cost too.
We are now absolutely delighted with it and have had no problems at all with it. It has auto install and was really easy to set up. It is a silver 15 inch LCD flat screen television with Nicam stereo sound. When I saw it along side the others I thought it looks very slightly less modern and streamline but with it happily installed in the kitchen I never give this a thought...

Acer
Advantages: Good all round multimedia laptop
Disadvantages: Bulky, low battery life.
...Acer is a major world leader in IT solutions and are now the third largest manufacturer of laptops worldwide. It's a great little device with plenty of features that I would highly recommend. This really is a wonderful piece of kit that should go well with many accessories because it really looks good. However, always think carefully as to whether you actually really need something before you buy it. We buy so many things nowadays that we don't really need.
