Acer n30 the laptop that fits in your pocket)

Advantages: very customisable
Disadvantages: a little out of date (certainly not obsolite yet though)

...the net or use skype. Also if you look on the web you can get a bluetooth portable (fold into pocket size) keyboard for arround £30 or £40 and you can get a LAN SD card (to use in WiFi zones) for about £30 and basically make the PDA into a laptop that fits in your pocket (though without the typical windows applications and the DVD or CD reader/writier). I use it to write papers on the train and watch movies (thanks to a pocket full of £10 1GB SD cards from amazon kept in a credit card sized SD carry case that you can get almost anywhere) when I get bored. Seriously, get this PDA you won't regret it and your wallet will thank you. It's a PDA built for the long haul. Also, for those of you who plan on playing a lot of media on their PDA, the acer n30 runs windows mobile for pocket PC (2003) and uses either windows media player...

Acer's Wireless Wonder

Advantages: Slick, functional, and easy to use
Disadvantages: A bit slow, no wifi, small memory

...At first glance the Acer n30 looks the part, with a slick body casing, and the new Windows Mobile software 2003SE. However, given that this has been dubbed the "wireless wonder" by Acer, there are several annoying omissions. The first of these is the lack of built-in wifi support. To use a wireless connection, you will need to purchase an SDIO card which has this functionality. Having said that the n30 seems to play well with most of the SD cards out there, and has enough battery power to last the course with wireless addons. The second annoyance is that a lot of USB devices, which support the mass storage option do not work with this device. This is due in part to the poor usb support in Windows mobile 2003SE, which does not seem to support any but the most simple devices. Other devices require drivers, which will probably not be...

My portable pal

Advantages: Brilliant as a portable multimedia machine
Disadvantages: Bundled carry case, soft plastic surround

...The Acer N30 PDA is, for me at least, an ideal buddy for the travelling businessman. It is very good at what it does, and does what it does well, but a niggling factor for me is that it is not quite what it is marketed as. The N30 is supposedly a 'Wireless Wonder' that can wirelessly connect to any computer, anywhere, but this is not really true. Below are its main features, some of which I will come to later on: **Hardware** - Wireless Bluetooth & IR - S.D. Card Expansion slot - Internal Speaker - 266 MHz Processor - 64MB RAM - 32MB Storage space - 3.5" LCD Screen **Software** - Windows Mobile 2003 SE - Microsoft Pocket Word - Microsoft Pocket Excel - Microsoft Pocket Outlook - Windows Media Player - Handwriting Recognition software - Calculator - Solitaire, Ball-breaker games **What's in...

A cool tool

Advantages: Light Weight, good design
Disadvantages: Clock Speed, lack of a CF reader, headphone port is too small

...Recently I purchased the Acer n30 PDA so I can have a Windows Mobile powered device and I wasn't disappointed. The device runs Windows Mobile 2003 edition which looks good and runs reasonably well but it is not without its faults. The device boasts Bluetooth support and a USB port feature. Bluetooth hasn't given me any issues and runs well (communicating with my phone and laptop with ease). The USB port is interesting and supports loads of common USB devices, such as USB keyboards, USB mice, pen drives, hard disks, and etc. (I've plugged a USB mouse, keyboard and a pen drive into the device). The USB port feature is only accessible through the USB host cable so you must have one to use this feature (it is supplied). The USB port doesn't support all devices- it didn't recognise my MP3 player. The chassis is well...

Samsung B3310 - but its pink!!

Advantages: Cheap, performs core functions well
Disadvantages: No data cable, location of memory card slot

...Introduction Whilst out shopping my wife suddenly decided that she needed a new phone as she wasn?t happy with her LG Cookie that she had only had for six months. As she is on a sim only contract, it meant that we would have to pay for a new phone for her. Previously she has always liked Samsung phones so when she saw the newly released B3310, she decided it was the one for her. Purchasing the phone We bought the phone in-store from the Carphone Warehouse for £49.95 but we also had to buy £10 airtime on top of this. If we had chosen not to buy the airtime then the phone would have cost £99.95 instead which seemed a bit strange but evidently all phone manufacturers do this. We had the choice of 2 colours, light blue or pink. Unsurprisingly my wife went for the pink phone which will pretty much ensure that I...

Acer

Advantages: Good all round multimedia laptop
Disadvantages: Bulky, low battery life.

...Acer is a major world leader in IT solutions and are now the third largest manufacturer of laptops worldwide. It's a great little device with plenty of features that I would highly recommend. This really is a wonderful piece of kit that should go well with many accessories because it really looks good. However, always think carefully as to whether you actually really need something before you buy it. We buy so many things nowadays that we don't really need. Specifications: Dimensions (WxDxH): 47.5 cm x 35.2 cm x 6.2 cm RAM: 1 GB (installed) / 4 GB (max) - DDR II SDRAM - 667 MHz Hard Drive: 120 GB Screen: 20.1" TFT (1680 x 1050) Optical Drive: DVD±RW Super Multi Graphics: NVidia GeForce Go7600 supporting 256MB TurboCache Wireless LAN: 802.11b/g Bluetooth: Bluetooth Enabled Fast Ethernet 10/100 Built-In 1.3 Mega...

Samsung PS50B451

Advantages: Brillaint TV
Disadvantages: Hard to get used to

...One of the TVs in my house has just been replaced, we was lucky enough to get a deal on the Samsung PS50b451 instead of it costing around the £700 asking price a friend of ours used her staff discount and along with some vouchers, the TV cost us around £350 which is brilliant for what it is. bit of a bargain actually. I thought I would review it to see if it is actually worth the £700 asking price to those who aren?t as lucky as us to have a friend who works in a shop that sells them. Why choose this one? The reason that we choose this particular TV is that we wanted one in the 50 inch size range to replace the old one, and when we had a look at the range available we found that this one was not only the cheapest for what it is, but also we found that this one was the better looking of the three we narrowed our choice down to...

Acer plays the Ace card again!

Advantages: Small, lightweight, great performer. Can handle some 3D games.
Disadvantages: None for the Netbook, but Linux version is rubbish.

..., listen to music and write documents or chat then this will be adequate for you. Linux is easy to use and the version on this Netbook is icon driven making it easy to get to what you want. Linux comes pre-installed and there is a copy supplied on disc. Installing Windows XP Another reviewer said it was "a challenge" to install XP but didn't furnish us with info on how he done it. If you're thinking of installing Vista or even Windows 7 then don't bother. First of all they are more demanding and the memory in the Netbook isn't sufficient enough. The Acer doesn't have an internal CD drive so you will need to purchase an external one. You can get them for as little as £30 and they are sold in many places. I bought one in Tesco's because they had the best price. To install XP, power up the drive, plug the USB cable into the computer...

Acer

Advantages: Good Value Product
Disadvantages: None

...Acer is one of the world leaders in IT systems. This is a good quality laptop that offers good value for money in the very short term. Although as with most products of this type, the value will deteriorate over time and should be able to get a cheaper version next year. It's a great device with plenty of features that I would highly recommend. This really is a wonderful piece of kit that should go well with many accessories because it really looks good. After using this product for a few months I have not so far come up against any reliability issues but only time will tell. I therefore would recommend the product. However, always think carefully as to whether you actually really need something before you buy it. We buy so many things nowadays that we don't really need. I've seen it for £530 (inc vat) from PC World although you...
