The Lenovo was only £499 compared to £563 for the Acer but the Acer has a dual core processor (the best apparently), double the memory, and a bigger hard drive. I decided for the sake of £60 the Acer was the better choice and would last me longer. I had never heard of Acer before, so I was a bit dubious about buying one, especially as their laptops are so cheap for the specifications you get, but I have no regrets and I guess with the Sony’s of the world you are just paying a premium for the name. ...INTRO I purchased the Acer Aspire 5520G laptop from Tesco Direct for the cost of £499, about 3 months ago. I purchased the laptop as my third laptop after two very unsuccessful Gateway Laptops earlier in 2007. These two laptops were both around £100 cheaper and as it was nearly a year ago neither of them was as high a spec as this one, which is currently around the highest spec laptop I have seen under £700, even though it cost much less than that! ...on this is a massive 5 hours, this is proably due to the smaller screen. as well as a wireless lan arial built in, this laptop also has a wireless Bluetooth aerial which is very handy for sharing photos and videos from your phone to your laptop. the processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo which is one of the fastest and is runs the 1gb of installed ram like a dream. another thing to mention is that the ram can be upgraded to a massive 4gb for those users who use demanding programs. this laptop has an huge 160gb hard drive, so is proably alot more than most would fill, and it even has a 5 in 1 card reader. however if you want a fster laptop but want the samee look as this acer, get the acer travelmate 6292 302 because it looks exactly the same but just has an extra 1gb of ram. this laptop is a great buy if your always on the go, the battery life is great... ...This is my favourite design so far by the acer travelmate brand. It looks a bit cooler and thinner than the other travelmates, which have previously looked a little bulky and boring. I think the main reason why it looks cooler is that its 2 different colours, black and silver, rather than being just black like the other ones. This features AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology TL-56 processor which runs the 2gb installed ram like a dream. Another great thing about this laptop is that the ram can be upgraded to 4gb, this isn't cheap however and could cost over £100 to upgrade it to 4gb of ram, however this would make the laptop run so much faster so if you do need a really fast laptop then this is possibly something you might think about when buying it. ...hard drives spindle speed is 7200 rpm. This is just the speed at which files are processed and transferred to and from the hard drive. So the higher the spindle speed the faster the process and transfer of data. You can buy this very hard drive for £55 at the cheapest, but maybe you will be able to find a cheaper deal on Ebay. Although not many people buy seperate hard drives, they tend to buy a whole fully tested and working PC. Computer technicians tend to buy these hard-drives individually in order to increase the existing memory capacity on their PC's. Acer provide reliable hard-drives so there is no need to worry on that basis. Thats all i can say really.
