Cheap RAID card is perfect! (but slow)
Review of Intel RAID Controller SRCS14L by  waga

Advantages: online capacity expansion, deals with hard disc problems better
Disadvantages: slow compared to software RAID

...recommend upgrading to current firmware and 2.16 storcon utl (both are on www.intel.com. There is a linux version of the 2.16 storcon, but it was hard to find!) With initial installation on a Gigabyte GA7 motherboard and Adaptec 2940AU SCSI controller, the problems with onboard intel BIOS / adaptec 2940AU and mobo BIOS reared it's ugly head. I could not for the life of me with all the PCI juggling, IRQ remapping and BIOS remapping options get it to boot with a Adaptec SCSI card and Intel RAID card. I asked a friend about his setup, and he had no problems (he was running a Intel serverboard with his SRCS14L) My problem was solved by removing SCSI from system completely and migrating to IDE bootup drives (which was such a pain on linux!) Current drivers are 2.05 which are included since the 2.4.19 kernel. As with all RAID controllers... Read review

Acer has aced on this one!
Review of Acer Aspire L5100 - Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2 GHz - 19" TFT by  RoryGriffiths

Advantages: Everything you could want, particularly amazing multimedia handling.
Disadvantages: Gamers beware

...would expect, even from a top of the range computer: 1 x serial A integrated storage controller DVD RW 4-in-1 card reader that supports Memory Stick, MultiMediaCard, SD Memory Card, xD-Picture Card 1 x integrated ATI Radeon X1250 Shared Video Memory (UMA) graphics processor with Digital Visual Interface (DVI) and High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Software including NTI CD-Maker Gold Edition, Adobe Reader 7.0, Acer Empowering Technology, Microsoft Works 8.5, Norton Internet Security 2007 (90 days subscription), Acer Arcade Live, Microsoft Office 2007 (60 days trial). Acer 201T - Fantastic for work
Review of Acer TravelMate 201T - C 600 MHz - 12.1" TFT by  hotrodkzn

Advantages: Good performance, great for work, reliable, very rigid/strong build quality
Disadvantages: Poor battery life, small screen

...600MHz Processor / Manufacturer Intel Processor / Type and class Celeron RAM / Installed Size 64MB RAM / Max Supported Size 512MB RAM / Technology SDRAM Storage Floppy Drive / Type 3.5" HD Storage Hard Drive 5GB Video Memory / Installed Size 4MB Video Memory / Max Supp. Size 4MB These are the default specifications. However, my laptop was fitted with extra memory (128MB), a bigger hard drive (30GB), network card, Graphics accelerator card and a PCMCIA card. Consequently the computer runs at a better speed and I can access programs with minimum delay. One can also control/use the following functions via the keyboard: Brightness, Contrast, Snooze/Sleep, Audio control, Touch pad on/off and you can turn the monitor on or off whilst keeping the PC operative. I also found other drivers for the Acer 201T that enhances it... Read review

Acer is Ace!!
Review of Acer Aspire 3003WLMi - Mobile Sempron 3000+ 1.8 GHz - 15.4" TFT by  ladyboymondaytofriday

Advantages: easy to use, wide range of pre-installed applications, quick processor, good TFT screen
Disadvantages: poor battery life

...the registration sequence and hey presto, the laptop was ready to go. The 15.4 inch TFT screen processes 16.7 million colours and has brightness controls which make it look stunning even from the moment you switch it on. Contained within the inter workings is a Sempron 1.8 GHz processor that is incredibly quick even when playing some large graphic heavy games. Sound quality is crystal clear from the built in speakers although when playing games and in the interest of maintaining a good battery life I prefer to use headphones. As well as being a great laptop for playing games, the CD drive doubles as a DVD drive making it handy to watch films on long train journeys. Again I would recommend using the headphones, but only to maintain the level of battery charge. The hard drive has 60GB of storage available and even after 8 months I have only used... Read review

Interview with an Intel-ligent girl.
Review of Acer Aspire 3613WLMi - Celeron M 370 1.5 GHz - 15.4" TFT by  Newboy3

Advantages: Low price; wide screen; high build quality and reliable mobile performance.
Disadvantages: Disappointing battery life

...for Double Data Rate 2 of RAM running at 400 megahertz. This is where the computer temporarily stores the information and instructions it needs to carry out a particular task. It is short-term memory and is lost when the computer is switched off.  Hard Drive: 60 GB ATA/100 HDD ☼ What it means: ~ A generous 60 gigabytes of storage space is available on the Hard Disc Drive for all your programs, documents, photos, music and videos. The ATA-100 signifies that the hard drive has its own built-in Advanced Technology Attachment or data controller and runs at 100 Megabits per second. Please note that whilst 60GB is ample for storing music and photos, an 80 GB drive or larger would be preferable for all your video needs. (One hour of DVD-quality video needs around 2.5GB).  Graphics Intel GMA 900, integrated graphics... Read review

Formula 1 Racer-Acer
Review of Acer Aspire 3003WLMi - Mobile Sempron 3000+ 1.8 GHz - 15.4" TFT by  Sgathach

Advantages: Big Memory, small price.
Disadvantages: 1.5 hour batttery life

...Acer Aspire 3003WLMI This starts with a few technical details, If you just want to know if it works I'll just say yes before I start and give you more details later; no good you reading at the beginning what I think of it and how it works if it's not got the specs you are looking for. I hope you find this review useful. In order to review this laptop I must include information taken from the Acer Website, this is to help the reader evaluate the manufacturer as well as the product. For some strange reason Acer does not seem to be well know to people who are looking to buy a new computer. I wonder if they would change their minds if they knew that Acer is in fact the official supplier of computers and systems to the Formula One Maranello team. (You can in fact buy special "Ferrari" Laptops). Acer is one of the global leaders... Read review

Disadvantages: Improveable

...on them. Underneath the keyboard is the touchpad. This is decent, I recently reviewed an earlier version of this Acer with an over sensitive touchpad but this is much better. Above the keyboard there are a few butons: Standby Email Home Acer Properties Control Properties Email takes you straight to your Outlook Express email inbox which is always useful. The Home button takes you to the website you have set as your homepage. The Acer properties allows you to play around with all things Acer to do with your laptop. The Control Properties button is interesting though, you can change what the other buttons do so you can have them do whatever you want, always useful! Around the edge: On the left hand side there are 3 USB ports. It's always useful to have more than two, especially with a modem that needs plugging into one of them... Read review
