Packed with features, excellent value for money
Review of Acer WLAN 11g Turbo Broadband Router wireless router by  faizamansoor

Advantages: Packed with features, excellent value for money
Disadvantages: Coverage A Bit Poor

...I bought this router for £35 from Ebuyer after sending back a Buffalo one which didn't work very well. What Ebuyer don't say on the website is that this Acer router comes with a free PCMCIA laptop wireless card in the box so for £35 this is excellent value for money. The router is small, light and packed with features. You can add mac filtering for both wireless and wired clients, wep and features an activity log. There is an option to hide the ssid although this does not seem to work. Also it states on the box the coverage is up to 300m however sitting in the room below the router the coverage is quite poor, I receive a "low" signal strength and a connection of 2mbps on my computer which is pretty bad since the maximum should be 108mbps. I can pick up my 2 neighbours wireless lan a lot stronger than my own. I haven't received... Read review

Linksys Wireless-G - Heh, It's Winking At Me
Review of Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54G - wireless router by  BNibbles

Advantages: New faster wi-fi standard. Easy to set-up
Disadvantages: None specific to Linksys, but wi-fi HAS to less secure than a wired LAN

...off my hands for 30 quid, so at £50 it’s a cheap upgrade. LINKSYS WIRELESS-G BROADBAND ROUTER (WRT54G) As you’ll see, they’ve streamlined the name of these things in the last year or so! This is a typical Linksys job to look at, being of a common corporate stackable design about the size that modems used to be, with a couple of ‘1st generation’ rubber cell-phone antennae sticking out of the back. This one doesn’t quite have the full array of pretty lights that its predecessor had, but this has enabled then to make it a lower profile than my old one. Its power comes from the usual outboard mains adapter, enabling the Cisco, the parent company to supply more or less the same equipment worldwide. The only other accessory supplied, apart from the installation disk is the extra bit of networking cable you’ll need – I’ll explain... Read review

Wireless-G Broadband router WRT54GC
Review of Linksys Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54GC - wireless router by  lincolnscot

Advantages: Very Small, wall mountable, good setup wizard
Disadvantages: Some technical jargon in initial setup

...Physically it is about the size of 2 cigarette packets side by side. However that is where the similarity stops, this is far more useful. I upgraded as my previous routers wireless encryption was limited to WEP only, which I was informed was not very secure. Thus the interesting specifications as I see it are: The very small size and wall mountable option, although I had to tweak the mount as the intended screws must have a very small and flat head. 4 Ethernet ports for wired computers and a wireless network supporting 802.11b and g standards. Built in Antennae thus nothing to attract little hands! In fact the only things protruding are the power and modem cables, very neat. Wireless encryption includes 128 bit WEP, 128 bit WPA and 128 bit WPA-2, there are various choices to flavour these, which I wont mention as I do... Read review

Wireless-Great Broadband Router
Review of Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54G - wireless router by  kirkwood132

Advantages: Price, signal strength
Disadvantages: small disadvantage in setup

...including software, wires, and cabling. The cables and wires are of good quality and you can be assured that they will not break. The router has a very good speed and it will rarely lose connection, I can tell you that for 3 weeks i have not lost one connection yet, The product is 100% worth your money, I can guarantee that. If you are a complete novice then setup may be a bit tricky but it is still doable because of the setup cd. You may have to call your ISP (internet service provider) but that is only to find out a few numbers like your I.P. address (internet protocol). But they should be able to tell you quickly. As you have probably seen from BT ads, you can buy wireless broadband packages, DO NOT buy these, they are just the same internet connection except they give you a "free" router. The router is not free as the additional... Read review

Freedom of Wireless
Review of Belkin Wireless G Access Point F5D7130 by  nemesis2004

Advantages: Fast, Easy Setup
Disadvantages: Technology beginning to become outdated

...protected for security. **The Package** There are a few variations of this package; you can get it with or without the network cards. You should get a power supply - because it is not a router, you do not need to position the unit near a telephone line, only a CAT5 network cable into your existing network. If you are using it as a Wireless Range Extender, you don't need to connect it to the network. To get you setup, a Quick Installation Guide is included. If that fails, it comes with an extensive user manual with all major European languages. It includes a step-by-step setup guide to get you up and running within minutes! If you chose to register your device, you should get a registration card. This covers the warrantee as well. And obviously, the Belkin 802.11g Wireless Access Point is in there too! **Will It Work On My... Read review

The web, wirelessly.
Review of NETGEAR DG834G 54 Mbps Wireless ADSL Firewall Router - wireless router by  TheDuke

Advantages: All-in-one package, ease of use, advanced features.
Disadvantages: Price

...are running your phone line/broadband connection through a cable company such as NTL, you'll need slightly different equipment. Wireless is also pretty easy to explain, cos it means you don't have to use wires. It's as simple as that. As an aside: Wireless network technology may also be described as 802.11a, 802.11b or 802.11g, and you shouldn't panic if you see these complicated looking numbers. The 'g' suffix at the end of the numbers indicates that the speed of the connection is 54 Mbps, transmitted at 2.4GHz whereas the 802.11 indicates the protocol (or interface) used to transmit and receive the data. 'a' and 'b' suffixes mean that the same interface is used, but at different speeds and frequencies. It's more common to see 802.11b and 802.11g these days. 802.11b and 802.11g are compatible as they transmit information at the same... Read review

Excellent wireless router
Review of NETGEAR WGR614 54 Mbps Wireless Router - wireless router by  mit3100

Advantages: easy setup, works great
Disadvantages: None

...I had recently bought a second laptop for my wife and needed a wireless router badly so that both of us could access internet simultaneously and wirelessly. So i searched around for a decent reliable router. i came across this one and bought it from amazon for 30 quid. It supports 802.11b and 802.11g. It has 4 wired ports so that 4 computers can be connected simultaneously. It doesnt have a USB port. Setup : it came with the setup CD and it took around 15 - 20 mins. since it involves computer restart. I have a Virgin broadband connection so had to connect this router to the modem supplied by virgin. A ethernet wire is provided with this kit. Had no problems at all with the setup. The installation needs to be done with the computer wired to the router. Also configured the router settings after logging into the router... Read review

Cheap wireless router that fails to impress
Review of Dynamode R-ADSL-C4W-G - wireless router by  sevelius

Advantages: Relatively inexpensive and small
Disadvantages: The range of the signal is not very good and not very easy to set up

...In our household we aren't paying a lot for a fast connection to the Internet. Following this trend we decided to buy a wireless router that didn't cost too much, we decided after a bare minimum of research to purchase the Dynamode R-ADSL-C4W-G, which (as suggested by it's name) is an ADSL compatible wireless router. In non computer speak it is a router that will connect to your broadband connection that uses the phone line. I won't go into the specific technical details of this router as it would only bore you (and I would simply be copying the description from the box). Instead I will tell you that during the installation process, we encountered the standard software setup that comes with the router. This looks rather ugly and is quite difficult to navigate for a beginner. What was worse than pure aesthetics was that we couldn't get... Read review

Crappest wireless router, looks blue for a reason
Review of Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54G - wireless router by  china_wolf

Advantages: When it works it works
Disadvantages: Unreliable, slow, low range, ugly as a killer whale's backside

...!' And so the rest is history... Well not really. Because I am one of those twats that purchased a Linksys Wireless-G router. When I first got it out of it's shiny new box, I thought, "Yes! The high speed wireless solution shall dawn upon my home and I will become... free!" It was easy to setup, just take it out of the box, out of it's protective cover, plug it into the mains with network cable connecting the broadband modem to it... and presto! Wireless-G router all setup! "It looks ugly, but if it performs well then I shall forgive it for it's short comings", I said to myself. The router itself has 2 attenna coming out it's back with 4 x RJ45 cable netowrk connectors for computers that still use the cable alternative. 1 x RJ45 socket was for the modem to connect to it, very standard setup for a router but it works. It is compatible... Read review

Speed, Reliability and Control - All in One Router
Review of Belkin 54g Wireless Cable/DSL Router by  janemenagh

Advantages: Fast, Reliable and Easy to Administer
Disadvantages: 802.11b may be difficult to setup as opposed to 802.11g

...modem (Internet Service Provider “NTL”) into the Router via an Ethernet cable and then connected an Ethernet cable from the Router to my Computer. Straight away without having to configure anything, I was able to access the internet from my computer via the router. (Under Windows XP.) This Router uses 802.11g technology and although “Belkin” claim that it also supports 802.11b (a slightly older and slower technology),I have heard of a few people who have had problems connecting 802.11b devices to the Router so if you are going to buy this router I would stick to wireless network cards that support 802.11g. I was able to setup my Laptop via a PCMCIA wireless network card and other PC via a USB wireless networking device within minutes, both of which supported 802.11g technology. Currently in my home there is no need for me to take any... Read review
