Acoustic Energy's Flawed Diamond
Review of Acoustic Energy AEGO5 Home Cinema Speaker System by
anthonyi
Advantages: Sound quality, ease of use and installation
Disadvantages: A few rough edges, cheap remote
...The Aego5 system from Acoustic Energy is a ‘home cinema’ surround sound setup that includes everything you need (apart from a suitable TV and DVD player!) in one box. It’s a system based around a small decoder unit, a (comparatively) larger sub-woofer/amplifier unit and 5 satellite speakers, described by the manufacturers, not unfairly, as ‘palm sized’. This targets the package at the user who can’t live with the sizeable speakers some other setups involve – ideal for my average size living room. I made my purchasing decision following a number of favourable reviews this unit received in the related specialist magazines.
So how did it turn out?
Firstly, it’s fair to say that very nearly everything you need to get going is included in the box, even batteries for the remote control and wall mounting stands for the speakers (though...

Acoustic Energy Aego P5.
Review of Acoustic Energy AEGO5 Home Cinema Speaker System by
chigley
Advantages: Superb Sound Quality, Small Satellites
Disadvantages: Slight hum from subwoofer, no Dolby Prologic 2 support
...The Acoustic Energy 5.1 system is available in two configurations - one with and one without a Dolby Digital / DTS decoder. The version without the decoder is less expensive and would be suitable if your system already has some form of surround sound decoding capability. I went for the version with the decoder.
The system is very easy to set up. All amplification is perfomed within the subwoofer so this forms the 'hub' of the system.
There is a single cable from the decoder to the subwoofer, then 5 single cables from the subwoofer to each of the satellites (one each for the left, right, centre, surround left and surround right channels)
The decoder itself has a coaxial and a digital input for digital sources, as well as three line level standard stereo inputs for connecting non-digital equipment.
The subwoofer is powered...

Acoustic Extravaganza - Acoustic Gem!
Review of KT Tunstall's Acoustic Extravaganza - K.T. Tunstall by
runetune
Advantages: Everything that is so good about KT Tunstall
Disadvantages: One song just has an edge of studio recording about it.
...to push up another level without having fancy gadgets to do it for you. Much like Paul Weller at his acoustic best.
The songs:
This whole album pushes through the whole KT Tunstall raw dynamic of which I am such a fan! My personal favourite is 'One Day', which just absolutely seems to ooze irrepressible energy and infectious beat and melody. This is closely followed by 'Boo Hoo' - which on another day depending on my mood will be my favourite!
Sandwiched in between 'One Day' and 'Boo Hoo' is a delightful cover version of Beck's 'Golden Age' another song I've always liked, and is just taken to a new level, keeping it smooth, and laid back with a wonderfully intimate performance to match.
'Ashes' is just one of those fun songs (and the one that gets the advisory warning for lyrics). The opening line is certainly memorable…….
'Girl...

Close to acoustic, Closer to perfection.
Review of Live At Benaroya Hall - Oct 22 2003 (Acoustic Show) - Pearl Jam by
f.rigger
Advantages: Great track listing, expertly delivered.
Disadvantages: A little sedate
...When I think of acoustic Pearl Jam performances, two images come to mind. The first is from a 1992 MTV Unplugged performance where Eddie Vedder could barely contain his intensity and seemed incapable of staying on his stool. The second is of a more sedate Ed, on his own, a solo performance of Dead Man (also included here) that I and other early arrivals to a show in 2000 were privileged to see.
The tone of the benefit performance captured here has more in common with the latter, though that's not a discredit. While many doubt that they will return to the form and urgency they initially showed, Pearl Jam have matured well as a band both in song writing and performance and this album highlights that superbly.
Opening track 'Of The Girl' sets the mood perfectly and sets the tone; it's not a night of 'Animal' or 'Evolution...

Bit out of date now but still good!
Review of Acoustic Energy AEGOp5 Home Cinema Speaker System with Digital Decoder by
alexjtear
Advantages: Excellent sound quality
Disadvantages: bass could be better
...I was utterly blown away by the Acoustic Energy Aego P5 system. The opening of Apocolypse Now Redux sounds like The Doors are in the room & chopters really are circuling. The detail in the Burly Brawl sequence in Matrix Reloaded was astounding. Basically, this has made me want to re-watch all my DVD's NOW!
The Aego P5 surround sound speaker system from Acoustic Energy is absolutely unbelievable! It is the most stylish small sub sat system I have seen. The real bonus is that the sound is so full. I really would recommend it to anyone. You can play your TV, Stereo, DVD player and PS2 through it! Excellent! The system included a pair of 10m rear cables, 5m front cables and 4m centre cable. Loads of cable to run under the carpets. All I will say is have a listen to the system and be prepared to be blown away!!...

Floorstanding speakers - best of the bunch !
Review of Acoustic Energy Aegis Evo Three Floorstanding Speakers by
g8ina
Advantages: Sweet transparent sound, bi wireable, solidly built.
Disadvantages: None yet found !
...of these shops were very accommodating, especially Salop HiFi in Shrewsbury, thanks guys. I really appreciated your time.
I listened to yet more Tannoys (nice), B&Ws (very dry), KEFs (too big), Quad's (way too pricey), and several other very reputable brands before giving these British made newcomers to the market a go .... At first I wasn't too keen..... Acoustic Energy ? Who are they ? Never heard of them ..... I was of the "old school" of HiFi after all, with fond memories of Quad, Garrard, Leak, Thorens and Rogers.
BUT, as soon as I stuck my favourite LP on their Linn turntable, and listened to it via the Denon AV1803 amp (the same as I had at home already), I knew within a few minutes that I had found what I was looking for.
This is a speaker with enough body volume to offer a depth of sound that you can *only* get with big cabinets...

Sounds have never sounded so good
Review of Acoustic Energy AEGO M by
ultracoolgiovanni
Advantages: awesome audio playback, stylish looks, easy to install
Disadvantages: above average price
...As anyone who has read the opinion I wrote on my new monitors at work with know, although I was delighted with the quality of the visual display, the only real flaw I could find was that there were no speakers incorporated in the monitor, making the picture quality out of this world, whilst the sound being produced by my aging speakers acted as something of a wake up call. Not a pleasant experience at all and not an experience befitting of the quality of the monitor. To rectify this situation and after much negotiation with my employer each workstation was provided with Acoustic Energy AEGO M speaker systems at a cost of 140 Euros (approximately £95). The M range being for monitors, rather than the H range which are additional speaker units for Hi-Fi systems.
The speakers are compatible with all operating systems and installation...
