review of Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar

Advantages: very playable
Disadvantages: short sustain

...The Epipiphone Hummingbird is my first Acoustic guitar i have not stolen off my dad. £300 is not a bad deal, seeing as the Gibson acoustics are all around £3000. The looks and finish of this guitar are very nice, i enjoy graphics on my guitar as long as they arent too loud, and this 'mockingbird' illustration is just plain pleasent. The shape of the guitar is perfect so that it can sit on your lap for hours and not ache, partly due to its incredibly light weight. The playability is pretty much perfect, the best you can get for a £300 acoustic, and times I thought I was playing an electric, the fretboard was just so slim, the strings were at perfect distance from the fretboard. The sound is not as good as the playability I must admit, probably because of the lightweight body, it is not hard enough to sustain the notes for a very long...

Therfore no collection would be complete without an axe from one of the world's finest and best known acoustic producers. Ovation. I own the Ovation Celebrity Deluxe which i believe is the finest looking in the Ovation range. However, you will also know that from my other reviews, Im left handed with the guitar which narrows your choice in colour. For a Right hander, the choices include, Black, Natural, Wine, Green and a sunburst effect top and also available in vasious mapel finishes. Im afraid to say my only choice was Black. Ibanez RG370DX - the all rounder guitar

Advantages: Great to play, very nice tones, very durable, good value for money

... Ibanez RG370DX I bought this guitar around 3 months after starting to learn how to play the instrument on a guitar borrowed by a friend. I went to my local music store and played a few guitars in my price range to see what one I liked the most. The Ibanez RG370DX stuck out the most. In my opinion it feels so nice to play - the neck is smooth, the action is not too low and not too high, it is just right. I use the guitar with 9 gauge Roto Sound Orange strings, and I get a really nice sound out the instrument. The guitar is very well contstructed, it is very durable and takes a bit of a beating. It also looks amazing in my opinion, and sounds just as good as it looks, if not better! You don't see many guitar reviews around here

Advantages: Looks and sounds good
Disadvantages: Not a gibson but who gives a.....

.... Well, I have played a few guitars in my time and this is certainly up there with the better ones. But I don't do detail and I know that there will be the experts out there who would pull it apart with ease. Most of us aren't such experts and want something that will make them look cool and sound half decent and this certainly does it for me. I will get a new guitar one day, but I'll never get rid of this one. I cart it to school every week to play in assembly so kids hero-worship me and my head gets bigger. I have dropped it, bashed it and generally abused it. It has chips and scratches galore but to me this makes it all the more loveable. My model number is actually the AE 28, rather than the 64, but trust me, from what I know about Ovations and what else I can work out, there are no differences here except the numbers! I brought it in November last year from a local music retailers, who I purchased my two other guitars (both electric), so trusted them fully when they recommended me this offering, and they've not let me down...

Review of Applause AE64 Acoustic Electric Guitar

1 of the elite trio of acoustic brands!!!

Advantages: will last a life time, sounds great, plays great, will not depreciate
Disadvantages: costly to begin with

...have no idea what the guitar actually plays like so how are you going to know it's the right one for you? One of my heroes Hank Marvin uses a black Martin which is available in his signature series which offers a fantastic sound. Unfortunately it did not work for me as it is a full bodied guitar which means it is quite large so me being quite short found it very difficult to play. Alternatively if you do not have enough to purchase something like a martin, then there are some great brands out there set at £500 - £1000 mark that will work extremely well in the professional environment. Guild is one brand that I can recommend having owned one for the last 5 years. So to summarize, In my opinion Martin is one of 3 equally fantastic acoustic guitar brands that I strongly recommend. Great Guitar by Ibanez!! very SGish!!

Advantages: Great weight, tone and price
Disadvantages: maybe too heavy for some

...I purchased the Ibanez AX320T a few years back and this guitar still surprises me everytime i pick it up. When i went looking for a guitar to buy i was looking for something that felt similar to my old Gibson SG but not at the same price as at the time i didn't have the funds. I looked at the range of guitars in the same price range and so many of them felt too light (Cheap wood) and a bit amatuarish, even one of the PRS's felt cheap! then i spotted the Ibanez. First thing i noticed was that it looked similar and then found out the sound when i plugged it in! Pure Classic Rock tone oozed out of it! :) I'm pretty sure its a mahogany body which explains the nice weighty feel and the pickups are nice and beefy like the SG but also i was surprised to find you can also get a slight strat tone!! Taylor 810 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

Advantages: Superior tone, easy to play

...I wish I was the proud possessor of a Taylor 810 guitar! The one I'm writing about belongs to a friend of mine, and he's very protective of it, will let very few people touch it (I appear to be one of the favoured few!) The guitar itself is made of Indian rosewood back and sides, with a Sitka spruce top, with distinctive Taylor ebony bridge and scratchplate. The neck is tropical American mahogany, the fingerboard is also ebony. The soundhole is decorated with Abalone,however this is not excessive. Machine heads are gold plated for a touch of luxury. As much care has been taken on the inside of this guitar as on the outside, and the finish is smooth, even on those hard-to-reach corners inside the guitar. This particular guitar does not have a fitted pickup, however I use an ebony Mimesis acoustic pickup which is excellent...

...Having just puchased one of these guitars on the wonderful ebay, I thought that i may as well review it for my friends on ciao. When the guitar arrives it comes in a very sturdy, expensive looking padded gig bag. As soon as you unpack it from the box it reeks of quality, the gig bag itself has a carrying handle on the top and a strap on the rear, so you can sling it over you back in a rock ' roll style. It has a large front pocket for carrying various bits and bobs (large enough to carry a tab book), and features an embroided Taylor logo, essential for letting others know whats inside. Once you open the gig bag and lift out the guitar it becomes apparent how lightweight the instrument is. The back and sides are made from Sapele veneerand the top is Sitka spruce. While these are not the most expensive and best sounding woods used...

Review of Taylor Big Baby Acoustic Guitar

Brilliant guitar, ultra fast and comfortable.

Advantages: Well made, plays great, smooth quick neck, comfortable guitar and low B
Disadvantages: Bad stock pickups, thin finish chips easily.

...This was my first 7 string and it's brilliant, it made the transition from 6 to 7 strings incredibly easy after a few days I didn?t even notice it was there and now 6 strings feel rather small in comparison. It's an Ibanez Prestige guitar so it?s top of the range, flawless construction, very comfortable and very easy to play with a thin smooth neck. It features the Edge Pro 7 which is Ibanez's own tremolo design and its fantastic, easy to palm mute on, easy to change strings, and keeps the tuning very stable.
