We try out best to make sure we go away every summer, and to date we haven't had very many bad experiences with the hotels we have picked. Last year, our choice of Holiday was to Tenerife. We booked our holiday at the very last minute. We were due to fly on July 6th, and at the beginning of April, we went into the travel agents and booked. Cuba Playa Caleta: Hotel and Service from Hell!

...February 2009. Playa Caleta is rated a 4 star. Sunwing Travel advertises it as a Sunwing Club Exclusive...whatever that means? We would call it the ?Club Torture? The hotel has a spacious, open-concept lobby on two levels. The lobby and the rest of the hotel are filled with cigarette smoke. When we asked the front desk staff if there was any non-smoking public areas, they answered with giggles as they held their lit cigarettes below the counter. This is supposed to be a family hotel; if you or your children can survive the second-hand smoke that saturates everything, you will still have a family. Buses idled right in front of the open hotel entrance, filling the lobby with carbon monoxide. As we discovered, vehicles in Cuba have no exhaust standards. Playa de San Juan - An excellent hotel

Advantages: Friendly staff, lovely pool, clean room

...We chose to visit the Holiday Inn Alicante Playa de San Juan for a week in July after having three very pleasant stays in Express by Holiday Inns in the UK. We were not sure what to expect in terms of quality, however it was probably one of the best hotels that we have ever stayed in. The cost was ?94 per night for an en suite room with king size bed and an ?almost double? sofa bed. The room was on the third floor of the hotel and had a view of another apartment block to the rear of the hotel. However, this did not cause any problems as the apartments were quite a distance from the hotel, therefore not blocking the panoramic view. Tabourente playa la palma. lovely hotel..... thats about it!

Advantages: incredibly clean, lots of room for guests, good VFM

...Myself and my partner have just returned from a week in the H10 Tabourente playa and thought that the hotel itself was brilliant, one of the best hotels ive stayed in. the only thing that let the holiday down is the lack of activities. We booked the holiday through Thompson back in April and got a very good deal for a 4* hotel. when we arrived we had a 5minute transfer to the hotel (you can see the airport from most of the hotel rooms), reception were a bit slow in booking everyone in but the reception staff seemed very friendly and spoke excellent english. The room itself was on the 4th floor so had good views of the pool area, a partial sea view and full view of the airport (which is ok as there are about 4 flights a day, last leaving about 9pm so minimal disruption). Get shot at by a madman at the H10 Adeje Palace

...We booked a last minute holiday to the Costa Adeje Palace Hotel at Easter this year. Having been to Tenerife before and stayed neared the centre of Playa de Las Americas I was looking for somewhere a bit quieter with good facilities. This certainely fitted the bill. LOCATION It is the last Hotel in Costa Adeje before you reach Caleta. There is a lot of building work going on around but that didnt put us off. Indeed I think when I next go back which I intend to do maybe next Easter it might be too built up round about. It could do with some shopping malls nearbly( to buy the obligotory perfume and girlie things) but I think this will be catered for in the not to distant future. It will certainely be an advantage. Advantages: great pool area and good entertainment
Disadvantages: on a slight hill not good for people with walking difficulties

...this is by far one of the best hotels i have stayed in in tenerife, it was so good i have been three times this year, all inclusive is the best way to go with this hotel as it has so much to offer in the range of food, we have stayed all inclusive three times now and never get bored of the variety of food on offer. hotel has three swimming pools which at most times of the year are absaloutley freezing, for a couple of months between october and january one of the pools is heated but is usually filled to the brim with children. Hotel has fantastic entertainment every night for children and adults at least two shows every night and a childrens club to keep them entertained most of the day, other activities such as water polo bingo archery and riffle shooting take place around the pool during the day to keep everyone entertained. if...

...Lagotel Hotel- Alcudia, Majorca Flight 2 hours from Cardiff to Palma, with first choice passed by quickly thank-goodness not a flyer! Transfer This took approx 50 minutes. Resort On arrival check-in was efficient and staff polite but a little stern looking. The hotel is outside Alcudia in Playa De Muro but the buses are regular and cheap to the strip. The hotel as a courtesy bus to the beach, which is lovely, shallow and white sand and ample sun beds and umbrellas. ...a week. There are plenty of activities for both children and adults in the day. The animacion team are really friendly and try to involve people in activities but are not a all pushy if you don't want to take part. They do rifle shooting, darts and other competitions and give out medals for winners. The evening entertainment mainly consists of the animacion team doing shows, with a couple of evenings of african dancing and magic acts. Although it was not to my taste, plenty of people enjoyed it. I would have liked to have seen more singers and groups. Although there are children there it was not rowdy or overcrowded and was a nice relaxing holiday. ...Riu Yucatan Mexico. We stayed here last year and to be honest it was a fairly decent hotel. In need of a little TLC but otherwise Not bad. Trip from the airport takes about 40 minutes and you see some deprived areas, not a pleasant start to your holiday and you eventually reach the high gated communities which contain the multitude of 3, 4 and 5 star hotels. You are now in Playa del Carmen. The hotel is one of the Riu brand and just down the beach from Its superior neighbour The Riu Palace and similarly just over the road is the hotels sister the Tequila and a little up the road the Riu Playacar. Advantages: Great location, Near beach, Attentive & happy staff and good food.
Disadvantages: Cold Pool, Built up Area, Noisy Road, Dinner gets packed

...We have just returned from the Torviscas Playa (September 2007). On first impressions, I wasn't sure as the building looking like it needed a little paint. However, once inside the hotel is clean and well kept with shiny marble floors everywhere. The Reception staff are efficient and really friendly. On arrival the Hotel supplies a small token orange drink, which we thought was a nice touch. The Hotel is in Costa Adeje and is very near to shops, bars, restaurants and a pharmacist. Playa das Americas is not that far away but you would need a taxi. There is even a Pharmacist across the road. Its very close to the beach and there are steps from the hotel, so not good for prams but you can get to the beach another way, which takes an extra 5mins.
