Amazing Photo Editing Program (Adobe Photoshop CS4)

Advantages: Massive amount of features, endless ways to manipulate pictures
Disadvantages: Takes a while to learn how to use it

...Having recently reviewed Quark on here I thought I should also give a review on Photoshop as it is another program that I use on a daily basis. Photoshop is a photo editing program which again as with quark I started when I was 17 (long time ago now) and at college studying Graphic Design, being young and having never used the program before I thought it was amazing, I didn't realize that there where programs out there that could do so much to pictures. Photoshop Elements Drop Dead Lighting techniques

Advantages: Concise yet easy to follow, some impressive looking projects, well presented
Disadvantages: Special effects section, a little light (sic) on explanations

Real life rarely serves up the sort of light we'd like (especially in the UK) and so we have to fall back on post processing and editing to tweak things. To the inexperienced user, this can be a bit of a hit and miss affair so I was very pleased to spot a copy of Photoshop Elements Drop Dead Lighting Techniques in the bookshop. After trying a few cheaper alternatives, I splashed out on Abode Photoshop 7 with all the trimmings, but I now use it almost every day. Ideal for an interested Amateur

Advantages: Price, Full featured, reliable software, plently of online tutorials to look at and support
Disadvantages: Categorisation and tagging, unlocking codecs, not intuitive.

...I have recently been roped in to doing video editing for a local paper, and a little video recording and taking the odd photo. Has a lot to do with marrying the Content Editor and Web guru. So after being faced with using a really outdated copy of premiere (5 or 6 I think) I bought myself this Premiere/Photoshop Elements package. I have to say that I'm glad I did. First off I have a big Dual Core laptop (T8100 Pentium Processor, 3Gb RAM 2x320 Gb momentus Drives and a big Nvidia GT card) which is well over the requirements of this software. Secondly I bought from Amazon for under £90 for the package on special offer and thirdly I have had some experience of Premiere in the past. Installation was smooth and simple, no problems, no fuss just the usual 20-30 minute installation process. Once installed and registered I discovered one...

My Photoshop is Welsh?

Advantages: Fairly easy to use, and has all the features your likely to need for photo editing. Included tutorials. Technical Support.
Disadvantages: It doesn't always work first time! It isn't wildly fast unless you have a very powerful PC. Closing and saving files is a bit torturous.

...My anticipation was high as I loaded the Adobe Photoshop Elements software. After all, all the reviews had been good, and previous Photoshop software worked like a dream. However, my dreams came crashing down when I tried to run the edit option. I waited... and waited... but my system was stuck fast. The screen was frozen, and according to Task Manager, the software was not responding but was using up all my CPU! I tried everything to fix the problem, including reloading Photoshop, removing anything remotely resembling 'photo software', reinstalling Norton, updating windows XP, resetting my screen refresh rate, and reducing my hardware graphics accelerator. Then after a month of bemoaning this waste of money, I called Adobe....... A very helpful tech support person, talked me through some checks, and then asked something...

...now adobe photoshop is something i can indeed write about, this software when i first started to use it, scared the living day lights out of me, i swear id look at and think *oh my god, what've i taken on* honestly first appearance of the userface scared me. first couple of times i struggled to draw a straight line, i was unable to find where all the different tools were, i was slightly confused that if i made a mistake i could only back step once, i couldnt understand why i couldnt save it as a picture to open in the window viewer, i couldnt figure out how i could possibly change the colors from the default black and white, i didnt even know what a filter was, i couldnt under stand the concept of it for weeks, this is when i switched to using good old paint, i knew how to use it, i understood the theory of paint, but i wasnt completly...
