...Picking a router is pretty difficult these days. There are an awful lot of routers out there and it is very, very difficult to choose the right one for you. The obvious things to consider are ? Price ? Ease of use/Ease of set up ? Speed ? Range ? After sales support The more technical would also consider the functionality offered. The DG834N ticks the right boxes in each of these areas. Out of the box the router looks rather sleek. It's a white box roughly the same size of a hardback book. Some yellowish flashing lights at the front inform you whether the router is switched on, whether it's connected to the internet, and whether it is transmitting a wireless signal. First of all Netgear's claim that it can operate at 270mb which is more than 2 times that of a standard home/office 10/100mb network and a good deal more than my old 54g (30mb+/-) router's speed, had to be tested. Secondly this was in draft N standard, meaning that it is not yet been made official or standard, so how would it perform in my own home? I just had to try it....... ...The Netgear DG834PN is the latest version of the DG834 and combines an ADSL modem with a wireless router and 4 port switch. In plain English, this plugs in your phone socket and allows one or more PCs to share the connection via either a wired or wireless link.
