A Safe Place In Sunny Marrakech
Advantages: good room, nice decor
Disadvantages: staff, breakfast
...This summer, I had been working full time, trying to earn the money in the gap from university but decided that once I'd had a taste of sun on our one week heat wave that I needed to get away myself. I had logged onto lastminute.com to see what kind of deals and destinations were coming up as I was literally looking at anywhere but a great deal came up for Marrakech, however I didn't have the money to pay upfront and new it would be gone by the time I got paid. Since I passed by this I logged onto ebookers.com and had a look at their hotels as a lot of the other holiday deal websites were giving hotels which didn't look as great. They have Ryad's over there which are almost like a bed and breakfast idea they are not the same service as a hotel.
I decided to book through ebookers.com for the Hotel El Andalous as my researching after...

Mesmering Marrakech
Advantages: Stunning scenery!
Disadvantages: food, a bit of a culture shock
...Marrakech has always been high up on my list of places to visit, so earlier this year I packed my bags and set off with a friend to explore the city.
We flew with easyjet from London Gatwick to Marrakech Menara airport, convinently located around 15 minutes taxi ride from central Marrakech.
Morrocco has a closed currency system meaning that Morrocan Dirhams cannot be brought into the country or taken out. There are Bureau de Changes located throughout the city and they accept most major currencies including pounds and euros. The two main languages are French and Arabic, although English is widely spoken along with many other languages.
A word of warning - Marrakech is a city where you have to haggle and haggle hard. Never accept the first price and be prepared to walk away! Prices quoted are usually 2-3 times as much as...

48 hours in Marrakech (Morroco)
Advantages: Beautiful climate, friendly + helpful locals, respectful people, great shopping, out of this world! :)
Disadvantages: hassel to buy, quite dusty (not great when you've got a cold)
...Only a 3 and a half hour flight from the hustle and bustle of London to the vibrant, colourful and unique city of Marrakech.
As we flew over the city, it looked liked a patch work quilt of green and caramel brown. In some places there is a lot of lush green areas but the majority of the city is dry with a dusty caramel covering the roads and streets.
Marrakech is a city in Morocco, North Africa.
The two main languages spoken in Marrakech are French and Arabic.
98% of the population are Muslim with the other 2% being mainly Christian. Many Europeans do live in Marrakech and many having holiday homes there.
The currency conversion rate is:
1 United Kingdom Pounds (GBP) = 15.84 Morocco Durham's (MAD)
The most expenses spent are usually in the UK to and from the airport. I recommend that you book online if you want to park...

Fab find of hotel
Advantages: standard, staff, location to Colosseum
Disadvantages: price maybe too high for some
...Well where can i start with the Capo d'africa hotel? It is lovely and a great choice of hotel so I'll start with the basics and work my way along!
The hotel:
The hotel itself is a 4 star superior hotel located near to the Colosseum in Rome actually on via capo d'africa. It is a relatively small hotel but, for the location (it is down a quiet narrow side road) it is actually what i would class a a larger size hotel as it does have facilities besides just rooms and takes up a fair bit of space on the street! The hotel is very modern and 'art deco' style and looks very upmarket both inside and out. This hotel would be great for honeymooners and couples as very good standard and also I don't think you'd get very many children here either (we spotted a couple with 2 children in the breakfast room one morning but they were older)
I...

Make mine Amine
Advantages: good value, lovely grdens and poolside
Disadvantages: slow check in, naff music
...I have just came back from spending a lovely sun-soaked week in Marrakesh in Morocco. I had a fabulous time and also found a hotel that I would really recommend which is the Hotel Amine.
We booked the four star Amine through Teletext. I had initially set my heart on a small riad (traditional courtyard style house) in the middle of the medina (the old town). We ended up at the Amine in Marrakesh's new town because I was holidaying with a female friend and we wanted a twin room. The Amine was the only one where we could definitely book a twin room rather than just request it. My friend is a lovely person but I did not fancy sharing a double bed with her so the Amine was booked for £100 for a week's bed and breakfast.
We arrived at the hotel after a 20 minute transfer from the airport by taxi. The standard rate for this is 150 Dirum...

Meanderings in Marrakech
Advantages: Interesting people, different culture
Disadvantages: small amount of hassle
...actually a lot warmer and sunnier while we were away! On some days it would be cool when the sun was behind the clouds then it would be very warm when it came out. The last few days of our holiday were quite hot.
Marrakech is an excellent base for trekkers, as the Atlas Mountains are close by with the start of the trail up the highest mountain in North Africa, Jebel Toubkal, being only two hours away.
We did find travellers cheques a problem, as none of the banks would accept them, although we eventually were directed back to the Hotel Ali who was able to change them. We found cash machines were the most efficient way of getting money and they were abundant enough and in good enough condition for us to use all over Morocco.
Alcohol is scarce due to religion, but you can find a few bars although most are quite sleazy. There is an alcohol...

Marrakech - it's like marmite you love or hate it.
Advantages: The mix of the city and the lovely riads
Disadvantages: The polution from petrol
...My daughter and myself have recently been lucky enough to spend four days in Marrakech in October. It was to me an amazing experience. We had a very early morning flight with Easy Jet, which meant we had most of the rest of the day to spend in Marrakech. From emails that I had been exchanging with the mamagers of The Riad Zolah in whch we were staying I knew we were being met at the airport, and taken as close to the Riad as a taxi can get. We were the last people out of the airport as I had left some things on the plane, and had to wait for it be be boarded before they would go and look for them. Luckily they were still there, and so was the taxi driver. It is an easy 15 minute drive to where we were dropped off, and met by a young lad with a big wooden cart which took our luggage and he guided us through souks and bewildering...

When Can I Get Back There???
Advantages: Hot, sunny, varied food, cheap
Disadvantages: Nothing English at all, not for little children
...I'm not sure why my boyfriend and I decided to head to Marrakech or why we picked this hotel, maybe it was luck, maybe it was the cheapest thing that popped up through a search bar. Whatever it was, I like it! We've just come back from our trip and I only really have a few bad things to say about the hotel, and place in general. It's mainly only good qualities.
We got off the plan and made it through the airport to an entrance/exit which is currently undergoing building work of two new terminals so it felt a bit odd and empty. There are handy cash machines and an exchange bureau which are handy as you can't get Dirhams in the UK. We were then outside in the half three in the afternoon sun and it was hot! Taxis were easy to spot and we set off on our journey to the Amine Hotel.
I'm not sure if there are rules of the road, but it didn...

bringing africa to you
Advantages: sweet fragrance
Disadvantages: none
...The sweet smell of africa is now yours, although i suspect lynx africa smells alot nicer than real africa (no one wants to spray themselves with something that smells like elephant poo.)
The design of the lynx deodarant really is slick, I love the twisty top which rotates up and down the top of the spray, and the press at the top looks like its taken off a sci fi spaceship death button. I love the printing on the spray, the three stripes which resemble a lions cut, with lynx in the middle. and the colours of red and green represent africa perfectly and of course with a black background its got all the same colours as the kenyan flag.
The fragrance is quite sweet for a deodarant, many other brands burn your nose off when you smell them and make you want to run to the window for fresh air, but lynx africa is pleasant to smell, you...

Indispensible for outing yourself as a tourist in Southern Africa
Advantages: Comprehensive, up-to-date, well researched
Disadvantages: cumbersome to carry
...For my recent trip to Southern Africa, I ideally wanted a guidebook for Namibia, Lesotho and South Africa in one. Unfortunately Lonely Planet do not have such a guide but their South Africa guide also included Lesotho (and Swaziland) which meant that rather than take two books for these two countries I was able to take them in a single volume.
The one problem I find with some Lonely Planets is that they become very bulky for a large country like South Africa - and unless you are really travelling throughout a country, it is almost worth only taking the pages that you need. As being white shows you up as being a tourist in a lot of places - there is little by way of domestic tourism for poorer non-white South Africans - brandishing a Lonely Planet just draws further, unwanted attention to yourself - the book is therefore not something...
