Advantages: Peace and quiet, and the Stafardo at Lithos.

...Agios Gordios We visited Agios Gordios from 12th to 26th May 2008. Agios Gordios is a one street resort, so is not for those looking for a lively night life, but for people like us who want quiet evenings talking to your partner, or new friends, over a meal in a Taverna or late night drinks, it proved ideal. The only exception to this may be the PINK PALACE Hotel Complex, this you pass as you come down the hill into Agios. You get the impression the youngsters who go in there do not emerge again until the end of their holidays. The one street I mentioned starts near the top of the Village at the 'BUS STOP', every notice you read or guidance you are given all seem to start at the 'BUS STOP'. Buses run from here to CORFU TOWN, about 16 kilometers on the other side of the Island. While we were there the buses went at 09...

Lord Complex, Agios Geordios, Corfu

Advantages: Beach, weather, food, people
Disadvantages: not much to do, waterhoppers

.../drink to the pool area which is a pain when self catering as this can get costly. You have to pay extra for air conditioning and we didn't feel it was worth it. Make sure you take mosquito repellent and cream - you will need it. We had a first floor room facing the hills and had a good view of the sunset. They came in and cleaned the rooms very briefly daily although in 2 weeks the towels were only changed about 3 times and some nights the bedding hadn't been changed. The owner and staff were very friendly. The complex is about 30 minute walk from the centre of St Georges. The beach was a 5-10 minute walk as was the supermarket. St Georges - Agios Gordios St Georges was a nice town although very quite. The resort was good for older couples and those with families however not for anyone after a lively time. Candia Park Village,Agios Nikolaos

Advantages: Excellent facilities, good food
Disadvantages: Isolated location

...needed it or give directions or advice. They also had stocks of used books a board games which was quite handy for out by the pool. The only gripe we had really was the location.....it's not near anywhere else in walking distance. If you want to go to the small town of Elounda or the larger Agios Nikolaos then you had to get a taxi which would cost you around 5 euros each way. We weren't at all impressed with Agios Nikolaos....it was really busy, full of shops and bars and awful restaurants. Elounda was a little bit nicer and we ended up having to go to the local doctors there as our son got an ear infection. The service was free although we did have to wait over an hour to be seen but excellent otherwise. One other thing that gets our thumbs up was the fantastic Kids Club. It was hotel run and the staff were absolutely brilliant...

In a country churchyard

...The pigeons have been left in possession of Agios Prokopios Church. When you enter, the door creaks and they rise in a flurry of wingbeats to find their way out through the broken windows around the high central dome. Their droppings pattern the floor, in layers beneath their perches, in blotchy spots elsewhere. Provided you can avoid treading on the more thickly caked areas, the echo of your footfalls will replace the frantic fluttering once the birds have flown away. The pews have been stripped out, as has the altarpiece and most of the interior decoration. Probably there were icons here, and, whilst they may simply have been destroyed, they might instead have been looted for their value on the illicit art market. Part of a high pulpit remains and holds a pigeons? nest, but the steps leading up to it have gone. Below...

Crete, Stalis Holiday August/Sept 2007

Advantages: Plenty of restaurants, good bus service, but still places to find peace and quite.
Disadvantages: transfer from airport due to the amount of drop offs took 1.5 hours

...Me and my husband have just returned from a lovely holiday in Stalis. We stayed for 2 weeks in the Paradise apartments which is situated on the main road in Stalis. The apartments are basic and clean and are run by Katerina and her husband Nikos who are both very friendly. We have stayed there twice now and on this occasion we had an apartment at the back overlooking the mountains. Some road noise could be heard as the busy dual carriageway from Hersonnison to Agious Nicholios runs to the rear of the apartment. Temperatures end of August to mid September were in the 30s c. There any many restaurants in Stalis and also 20 minutes walk away in Malia. Our favourite place to eat is in old Malia as it is very pretty at night especially when all the fairy lights are on around the old restaurants. We like San Georgio's and also...

Review of Stalis

One of my favourite islands

Advantages: excellent food, cheap, golden sandy beaches
Disadvantages: outside of Naxos town there is very little nightlife

...Having booked a week's holiday in Santorini and being extremely disappointed (dirty, very touristy and way overpriced!) a friend and I decided to escape to Naxos. The journey was quick (2 hours by ferry) and Naxos was almost the complete opposite of Santorini. We travelled in early October, but whilst the winds of Santorini were raging, the sun beat down on Naxos' beautiful (and completely deserted!) white and golden sands. We found accomodation by walking across Naxos town towards Agios Georgios Beach. We found the Galaxy Hotel after 10 minutes walking near the beach (there's a link to this hotel on www.naxos-greece.biz). As it was almost completely empty, they let us have a beautiful room overlooking the pool for 50 euros a night (30 quid!). Review of Naxos (Greece)

Steven's On the Hill but not too high.

Advantages: Good swiming pool for a lunch and swim option.
Disadvantages: No Green Beans

...STEVEN'S ON THE HILL. It is set on the road that leads up to the Agios Gordios Hotel, it sounds like it may be quite a hike, but it is not too far, about 100 yards from the Bus Stop. It is a Hotel but we only used the Taverna (Restaurant) so can not comment on the standard of accommodation. It has tables set in the Garden the majority are under cover. There is also a large wood fired oven in the garden but was not being used that night. There is a very good sized swimming pool, so would be a good option if staying elsewhere in Agios to use during the day. The night we called in there turned out to be only one other couple having a meal, so it would be difficult to comment on the atmosphere of the place. Looking thru the menu there was a section where they did themed nights, Greek Night with live music and dancing...

...Sabastian's Taverna. This taverna is located at the Top Of the street in Agios Gordios about 50 yards down from the Bus Stop. It is set on a large terrace that looks down the street towards the Sea but no Sea View. We only ate there once, please take this into account, but we also met more people who said the same rather than those who had gone back. The first thing that struck me was that you were not automatically supplied with bread, very un-greek. You could order "Bread & Butter" or Garlic Bread. Our meal. Starters:- Galic mushrooms, which my wife was pleased with. I had the Little Banana Peppers stuffed with spicy feta, very good, but felt the two requests "Is everthing OK" during the starters a little over the top. Mains:- The lady had SORIFTO, Corfu Speciality, Beef with a wine and garlic sauce...

Pure class

Advantages: Great design, can do pretty much everything you would expect of a media player

For years I had always said to myself I would never buy an Apple iPod, but I went back on my own promise just a couple of weeks agio when I gave in to temptation, and boy am I glad I did.
