The only gripe we had really was the location.....it's not near anywhere else in walking distance. If you want to go to the small town of Elounda or the larger Agios Nikolaos then you had to get a taxi which would cost you around 5 euros each way. We weren't at all impressed with Agios Nikolaos....it was really busy, full of shops and bars and awful restaurants. Elounda was a little bit nicer and we ended up having to go to the local doctors there as our son got an ear infection. The service was free although we did have to wait over an hour to be seen but excellent otherwise. One other thing that gets our thumbs up was the fantastic Kids Club. It was hotel run and the staff were absolutely brilliant...

AGIOS GORDIOS a Chill Out Place for lovers.

Advantages: Peace and quiet, and the Stafardo at Lithos.
Disadvantages: No bakery

...Agios Gordios We visited Agios Gordios from 12th to 26th May 2008. Agios Gordios is a one street resort, so is not for those looking for a lively night life, but for people like us who want quiet evenings talking to your partner, or new friends, over a meal in a Taverna or late night drinks, it proved ideal. The only exception to this may be the PINK PALACE Hotel Complex, this you pass as you come down the hill into Agios. You get the impression the youngsters who go in there do not emerge again until the end of their holidays. The one street I mentioned starts near the top of the Village at the 'BUS STOP', every notice you read or guidance you are given all seem to start at the 'BUS STOP'. Buses run from here to CORFU TOWN, about 16 kilometers on the other side of the Island. While we were there the buses went at 09...

Lord Complex, Agios Geordios, Corfu

Advantages: Beach, weather, food, people
Disadvantages: not much to do, waterhoppers

.../drink to the pool area which is a pain when self catering as this can get costly. You have to pay extra for air conditioning and we didn't feel it was worth it. Make sure you take mosquito repellent and cream - you will need it. We had a first floor room facing the hills and had a good view of the sunset. They came in and cleaned the rooms very briefly daily although in 2 weeks the towels were only changed about 3 times and some nights the bedding hadn't been changed. The owner and staff were very friendly. The complex is about 30 minute walk from the centre of St Georges. The beach was a 5-10 minute walk as was the supermarket. St Georges - Agios Gordios St Georges was a nice town although very quite. The resort was good for older couples and those with families however not for anyone after a lively time. Aghios Nikolaos - the place to holiday-os!

Advantages: Picturesque, friendly, great weather
Disadvantages: Nightlife fairly quiet

...My boyfriend and I were looking for a fairly cheap holiday abroad over summer in 2004 and particularly wanted to visit Crete as we like the culture, friendliness and food it offers. Aghios Nikolaos (AgNik) is no exception to the rule. We booked thorugh Kosmar to stay in the Dilina Rooms on a bed and breakfast basis. On first approaching the 'hotel' in the middle fo the night we were quite worried that it was a bit of a shed, however, after sleeping then waking in the morning for breakfast we were warmly welcomed by the owners - Nikki and her husband ( I forgot his name). Breakfast consisted of bread and cakes with jam and butter, juice, tea and coffee to drink. One day a week Nikki went to market and served fruits and on a Sunday she brought some different breads from church. The personal touch was really sweet...

In a country churchyard

...The pigeons have been left in possession of Agios Prokopios Church. When you enter, the door creaks and they rise in a flurry of wingbeats to find their way out through the broken windows around the high central dome. Their droppings pattern the floor, in layers beneath their perches, in blotchy spots elsewhere. Provided you can avoid treading on the more thickly caked areas, the echo of your footfalls will replace the frantic fluttering once the birds have flown away. The pews have been stripped out, as has the altarpiece and most of the interior decoration. Probably there were icons here, and, whilst they may simply have been destroyed, they might instead have been looted for their value on the illicit art market. Part of a high pulpit remains and holds a pigeons? nest, but the steps leading up to it have gone. Below...

...or German...), you can walk into virtually any hotel to use the swimming pool and, should you want a bit of local culture, the bus service is great. Malia's beaches are a bit crowded but if you take a 20 minute bus ride along the coast, Agios Nikolaos is much nicer - plenty of shopping as well. If you're going to the water parks or on other trips around the island, it's well worth finding out how much they cost by bus or taxi as tourist trips are exorbitant, particularly through British tour operators - Thompson are notorious. To give you an idea - Heraklion from Malia costs £1.50 by bus or about £10 on a tour bus. Be careful to research your destination if you are looking for something specific!...

...to visit Wave Beach at Agios Nikolaos. It was a beautiful beach full of shells and perfect for beachcombing, as a lot of the beaches at Kos seem to be devoid of shells. The sea was choppier here so I wouldn't have gone swimming there bt it really was picturesque and unspoilt. We also visited Mastichari which, on the whole, we weren't very impressed with. It seems more of a residential place. This all sounds great but I can hear you asking about car hire, insurance etc. There are lots of car hire places on Kos and in Kefalos, and your rep will recommend one to you. We went somewhere else because we wanted a bike. Insurance is minimal and does not cover you for theft but the Greeks are quick to assure yo t's unlikely to get stolen. I don't know, it never happened to us, but it's up to you whether you take the risk. For bikes, the helmets...
