Welcome back A-ha!!
Review of Analogue (Parental Advisory) [PA] - A-Ha by
debbieharrs
Advantages: Analogue, Birthright, A Fine Blue line...everything really
Disadvantages: Celice...it get's quite annoying
...This is the first album from A-ha for a while, and i think it is brilliant. I was a fan of their 80's music, who couldn't love 'Take On Me'???!! if you're expecting this album to be like that, you will be pleasantly suprised. There are some real gems on this album, including my favourite the lead song 'Analogue'.
1. Celice - I think this is an unusual song to open, as it is the worst song and most annoying one on the album! If you think the album can only go downhill from this, you are very wrong. it gets better and better!
2. Don't Do Me Any Favours - a nice guitar, catchy song. It has very thought provoking lyrics and is a nice summer tune.
3. Cosy Prisons - This is a nice slow tune, with just a piano and acoustic guitar accompanying Morten Harkets voice. he always hits those high notes perfectly, and this doesnt change...

Gatineau AHA Body Lotion
Review of Gatineau AHA Body Lotion by
Carousel
Advantages: Soft smooth skin
Disadvantages: Price
...on my clothes. The AHAs are extracted from passion fruit so the website says, and if you have ever smelled passion fruit, you will know the wonderful scent that it will leave on your skin.
I bought it from QVCuk.com and it was well worth the £23.75 it cost me even if i did have to include the post and packaging on top of that.
First rate product....

Best introduction to under-rated pop legends.
Review of Headlines And Deadlines - A-Ha by
anaglypta
Advantages: Good selection of tunes.
Disadvantages: Covers only part of their long career.
...I have decided to review another a-ha album again much sooner than I planned after I saw this fine Greatest Hits album for a measly £3! In ASDA, if you're curious. It appears that it has been "remaindered" or whatever it is happens to CDs that makes them end up in bargain sections of supermarkets. So, if you don't own this album, and like top-notch popular music, I would strongly recommend you cast your eye over the CD section in your local hypermarket. It was released in 1991, and so the most recent song on there is Move to Memphis. But I'm sure that these songs will be the most familiar to people who aren't already hardcore a-ha fans, and for that reason, it's probably the best place to start if you are at all interested in rediscovering these (far too often neglected) Norwegian pop gods.
If you haven't read any of my a-ha reviews...

Not just the band that did "Take On Me".
Review of A-Ha - Homecoming - Live At Vallhall DVD by
anaglypta
Advantages: Great concert, good DVD extras
Disadvantages: None that I can see.
...I have to start this review by declaring an interest: I love a-ha. I have done for more than 20 years, since I was 9, in fact, making them my longest-standing crush. Morten Harket could read the Oslo phone book and release it as an album and I would buy it. And probably LOVE it. So hopefully this review will also tell you exactly why you'd be a fool to write a-ha off as "the band that did Take On Me". I have to say that if they were Irish, they'd probably be the biggest band in the world.
If you're one of the people that only remembers a-ha from the 1980s, then the fact that a-ha are still working, recording and selling huge numbers of records and concert tickets may surprise you. On mainland Europe, in South America and of course their native Scandinavia a-ha are still one of the biggest bands around. They have of course aged since...

An epic album from an epic band.
Review of Scoundrel Days - A-Ha by
anaglypta
Advantages: Epic. Mostly a work of genius.
Disadvantages: Makes me over-use the word "epic". Moments of odd un-epicness.
...I'm continuing my poke through my record collection with another offering from Norwegian legends a-ha.
Scoundrel Days was a-ha's "difficult" second album. It was a move away from their "synth pop" reputation after Hunting High and Low, and was perhaps a bit of a shock for their teenage fans, but at ten years old I was too young to be disappointed. I loved it. I held long scarves in my hands and danced, with an abandon that can only be described as "gay", around my bedroom to every song on this album, and it's probably the reason why, by the time I was a teenager, I was into rock and metal. Luckily since then I've realised I'm a TERRIBLE dancer.
In a highly unscientific poll (a search through my memory to remember the opinions of fellow a-ha fans over the years) the vast majority of a-ha fans named SD as their favourite ever a-ha...

I am going to marry Morten Harket
Review of The Hits Of Aha - Aha by
Pumpkin
Advantages: See opinion
Disadvantages: Very few!
...At least that was what I thought at the age of 7 in 1985 when Norwegian band A-ha burst on to the pop scene. At that tender age they appealed to me simply because of their catchy songs and good looking singer, but looking back now I can see that they were in fact extremely original, very talented – oh, and Morten was rather lovely!
A-ha were a three piece band, comprising singer Morten Harket, and musicians Magne (Mags) Furuholmen and Pal Waaktaar. Despite hailing from Norway they sung in English. Due to Morten’s chiselled good looks, they were seen by some as nothing more than a ‘boy band’ (although boy bands were probably not known by that name in those days, as fortunately there were not enough of them around to warrant their own categorisation!) but they did in fact write and perform their own material and were responsible...

Come and touch my soft, smooth bod
Review of Gatineau AHA Body Lotion by
Evep
Advantages: Everything!
Disadvantages: May be a bit pricey for some.
...feel all fresh, summery and the ‘just out of the shower’ feeling.
After applying it, your skin feels baby soft and almost feels powdery although it doesn’t leave a powder film to your skin.
It contains AHA’s hence the name and I chose the product purely for that reason and was the only one I could find containing it.
I use an AHA cream on my face and it works wonders on my dry, flaky skin.
According to the ingredients list the AHA’s come from the citric acid it contains. AHA’s can come from various other sources such as sugar. AHA’s help your skin to shed dead skin cells quicker to reveal healthier, glowing skin and for me helps stop any spots and blemishes.
The ingredients also contain lanolin, shea butter and glycerin amongst other long, unprounceable names!
I also have mild eczema and have bumpy upper arms and back which looks...

They're all here, and who could ask for more?
Review of The Hits Of Aha - Aha by
EnglishPatient
Advantages: Every Aha song you're likely to know is here.
Disadvantages: The focus on the poppier songs gives a rather lopsided representation of their talents.
...November 1991 saw the release of Headlines & Deadlines...The Hits Of A-ha. Comprising all 15 hits, plus one new track Move To Memphis (also released as a single, and another flop), it naturally overlooks any non-single highlights from the four albums to that point.
A-ha's catalogue of hits ranks among the finest of any era or genre, yet the decision to arrange the tracks in non-chronological order was a nisguided one. Opening with Take On Me was logical, but placing Cry Wolf, Touchy!, and You Are The One immediately after it smacked of commercial considerations over artistic concerns. Luckily, CD allows this chosen order to be reprogrammed into a more appropriate sequence.
If you only ever own one Aha CD, this is definitely it. What it lacks in showcasing the more adventurous non-single tracks, it makes up for with a succession...

Mediocre Sales Major Classic
Review of Minor Earth Major Sky - A-Ha by
kfingleton
Advantages: A band at the peak of their form
Disadvantages: No one in the UK or Ireland wants it
...Remember A-ha? If you’re a teenager of the 1990s you may not as they disappeared from the charts long before the arrival of Britpop. I was only a tiny scamp in the 1980s when A-ha were very, very big, but my older sisters and brother passed them down too me. They remain a link to my more innocent days when I still thought I’d be either a footballer or an astronaut. So what a surprise ‘Minor Earth Major Sky’ is, because, not only is it A-ha’s first album in 7 years, it’s their finest album…EVER!
The basic ingredients of A-ha remain. There is the wonderful voice of Morten Harket coupled with the looks for the girls. Couple this with the song-writing class of Magne Furuholmen and Pal Waaktaar-Savoy (who seems to have added his wife’s maiden name to his) and we have 13 songs of brilliant, epic pop music.

Review of Beautiful Day - U2 by
kfingleton
Advantages: Good tune
Disadvantages: Not as good as the one it rips off
...I don't really see the point in having a review section for one song, but I'd thought I'd add a few points about this song that people may not be aware of.
During the recording of the latest U2 album the band had hinted that they would go back-to-basics, getting rid of their pretentious rock and return to their eighties roots. What they didn't tell us was that the lead track on the album would find its eighties roots by sounding almost exactly like one of the finest songs of the decade. The song U2 ape on "Beautiful Day" is "The Sun Always Shines On TV" by A-ha.
A-ha were massive in their time, but their credibility took a seismic knock last year when A1 of all people covered (and murdered) "Take On Me". "The Sun Always Shines On TV" appeared in 1985 as a single with a superb video, but it is the song that stands the test...
