Singapore Airlines - A pleasure to travel with
Review of Singapore Airlines - SIA by
KELLYLOUJ
Advantages: Great seat pitch, value for money, modern aircraft, polite staff, amenity kit
Disadvantages: None
...*~*How I came to be going to Singapore*~*
As a bit of a competition player I tend to drop lucky in our office when the Airline's are offering incentives to agents in order for us to sing their praises to customers, so when they launched the Boeing 777 from Manchester they were offering flights for just £77 return to Singapore a real bargain so I decided to pick up one of these flights.
My colleague who I was good friends with decided that she wanted to come as well so we both applied to take a friend with us and it was decided that we would go in September we received our fax back to say that we had been successful and decided to make plans for our stay.
This was at the time where SARS was just coming to an end and Tourism was pretty low in Singapore I was all for travelling over there but my friend started to have doubts when...

MyTravel Airlines - A+
Review of MyTravel by
meowmix
Advantages: On time, good meals and service
Disadvantages: Had to pay for drinks and headphones.
...I was fortunate enough to fly on MyTravel Airlines from Gatwick to Rhodes in June. I have to say it was among one of the best airline experiences I have had.
Check-in was efficient and moved quickly, even though it was a full flight. The flights were on time - both inbound and outbound - and we even arrived at our destination early both ways!
I was in Economy Class, and the legroom may not have been extremely generous but was better than other Economy Classes that I've been in such as British Airways. We flew on the Airbus A330 so there were individual television screens in the back of each seat, with a choice of television shows and some very recent films. The choice of programming was so good that it was difficult to choose what to watch.
Meals were served promptly and were very tasty. Perhaps they were served a little...

Turkish Airlines - A Bazar in the Sky
Review of Turkish Airlines by
From_The_Continent
Advantages: regular loss of luggage, huge delays
Disadvantages: extremely cheap, extensive network in the middle east and central asia
.... It is the only outside the former Soviet Union to serve ALL of the C.I.S. republics in the Caucasus and Central Asia almost on a daily basis (although Lufthansa's network in this region comes very close to THY's).
So if you are bound for one of the following destinations, you almost won't get around flying Turkish Airlines: Tbilisi (Georgia), Baku (Azerbaidjan), Ashgabad (Turkmenistan), Tashkent (Usbekistan), Bishkek (Kyrgystan), Almaty (Kasachstan).
Most international flights depart from THY's hub in Istanbul. To a lesser extend, international flights are operated from the capitol Ankara, and few from Izmir.
Turkish Airlines also have extensive connections throughout the Balkans, but other European carriers have almost closed the gap here.
Due to Turkey's vast size and underdeveloped road and rail network, most long distance travel...

About safety of airlines in today's world
Review of In light of recent airline tragedies, and a growing number of budget flights, is safety being compromised? by
Mwq5
Advantages: read it
Disadvantages: read it
...three, airline workers quickly concealed the carrier's name with a tarpaulin. Similarly, Aloha employees hurriedly covered their company's logo on the damaged 737 by swabbing orange paint on the tail.
One fact airlines keep stressing is that air travel is growing safer. Fatalities in U.S. commercial-airline accidents declined from 2,669 in the years 1970-78 to 2,000 in 1979-87, even though total flight hours increased by one-third during that time. Moreover, the majority of accidents are attributed to pilot and controller errors and to bad weather. Mechanical faults have been blamed as a factor in only about one-third of such mishaps.
Yet the hazards of faulty maintenance have been amply demonstrated in several catastrophic crashes. The worst U.S. case was in 1979, when a replacement engine that had been improperly mounted on the wing...

Malaysia Airlines - Going beyond expectations
Review of Malaysia Airlines by
droniee
Advantages: First class service, good entertainment system, excellent airplane,
Disadvantages: May be a little expensive
...I'm a regular traveller on Malaysian airlines, travelling with them in excess of 5 times a year. Well, I'm originally from Malaysia and each time I go back for a holiday, Malaysia Airlines is ALWAYS the airlines that i'll take.
I've never considered any other airlines, really, and you may all wonder why? I must say, Malaysia Airlines certainly do provide one of the best services so far in my experience (though the only other airlines I've used before are Jet Air, Singapore Airlines and British Airways.)
****History****
Malaysia Airlines started as Malayan Airways Limited (MAL) on Oct 12 1937, then only flying between Penang (in Malaysia) and Singapore. On April 2, 1947, the first fare paying passengers boarded an MAL Airspeed Consul plane in Singapore that was bound for Kuala Lumpur. Within three months, MAL broke the borders...

Singapore Airline Crap
Review of Singapore Airlines - SIA by
petitesquirt
Advantages: What advantages? Should be renamed the NoStar Alliance.
Disadvantages: Too many to list.
...As many of you know, I am a frequent flyer on several of the major airlines. My travels have taken me to many parts of the world on several different airlines, some good, some bad, some not worth mentioning.
This is an extremely long review. So, you have been warned!
Personal History
=
The last time I flew with Singapore Airlines (SIA) was more than 10 years ago. On that fateful flight, the plane was delayed many hours, due to 'unforeseen technical problems'. They boarded , and unboarded (alighted) us many many times and did not even have the courtesy to provide the passengers with refreshments.
On top of the delays, there was the food poisoning incident when I flew with them from Hong Kong to Singapore. Did I mention they are also part of the Star Alliance? Earlier last year, I wrote about Air Canada and how...

American Airlines: Absolutely Average
Review of American Airlines - AAL by
MAFARRIMOND
Advantages: Comfortable seating. Plently of leg room. Excellent website.
Disadvantages: Disappearing Attendants.
...It was our 30th wedding anniversary in May and we wanted a holiday to remember! After much deliberation we decided on a music themed road trip in America. Starting in Chicago, we would travel via the old Route 66 to St Louis, then onward to Nashville, Memphis, Jackson, Lafayette and finally New Orleans.
The next decision was with which airline to travel. To a degree the decision was made for us as American Airlines fly directly to Chicago daily from Manchester (our nearest airport) at a reasonable time - leaving at 10.30 a.m. and arriving in Chicago's O'Hare at 1 p.m. (Other UK airports served by American Airlines are London's Stansted and Heathrow). Return flights to Chicago are currently (May 2008) £351 per person. Other US destinations are available at a range of prices.
To keep things simple we also used an American Airlines...

Fast points, fast flights, horrible airline
Review of Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan by
wafflebreeder
Advantages: Very easy to earn points, without flying
Disadvantages: mediochre airline
...or Horizon Air. The point totals build to 20-40,000 for coach flights, and finally 40-80,000 for first class.
I would just recommend that you save them for first class, because Alaska Airlines has the most uncomfortable, tight coach flights around, with absolutely no arm or leg space.
Blackout Dates
Within the United States on Alaska Airlines there are only 3-4 blackout dates per year. However, when you start traveling outside of the United States and on the other airlines there can be quite a few blackout dates. These blackout dates are dates that you cannot use your mileage plan points to purchase a ticket. This is generally because those are popular flights that generally sell out.
American Airlines and a few other airlines that are partnered with Alaska Airlines have no blackout dates at all, so if you can't fly during one...

Growing airline keen to be successful
Review of Vietnam Airlines by
andrewfleminguk
Advantages: Fantastic value domestic flights where overland travel is slow
Disadvantages: Not yet competative on long haul routes to Europe
...to acquire this route.
Child friendly policy
This was only tested on the Hong Kong - Hanoi flight and vice versa which I took in 2005 when our son was 5 and 8 months respectively. They gave us a seat at the front of economy which provoked furious looks from business passengers and were very nice but they did not have any special food (although it was ordered). Because of the configuration of the Airbus 321 a basinet was not possible. Overall though, I would say no better and no worse than any other airline
Conclusion
Overall, I think it is a good airline and one that I am sure will grow and develop in the future and offer some stiff competition in years to come on longer haul routes if they make their price a little more competitive. It has been OK when travelling with a small child....
