...OVERVIEW If you are considering a trip to Ireland, one of the most popular areas to visit is around Cork. Although I've been to Ireland almost annually since a child, I'd never visited Cork until this year. The area differs enormously from the West Coast, in that there are more rolling hills, arable farming and very reminiscent of Cornwall or Devon. On my travels I always like to stay in nice hotels, well at least the best that I can afford, and that usually entails trawling through the various travel booking engines to see which is offering the best deal. ...The Radisson hotel at Manchester Airport is probably one of the more well known as it has now been there for quite some time and unlike a lot of others around the Airport, hasn't been bought out over the years and renamed. The hotel is set right in the heart of Manchester Airport so that all three terminals are easily accessible from it and it is easy spot if you are coming off of the motorway to the Airport as it is set right at the bottom of a hill in front of the main roundabout at the airport that has all the flags of the world on it. ...OVERVIEW I had not heard of the Carlton hotel chain prior to my visit to Ireland in late 2006, but it turned out to be a brand new 4 star modern hotel and the cheapest of this hotel class in Dublin at the time of my booking. ...I stayed here for one night last week on a business trip to Manchester. I'd stayed there several times before, but they've recently renovated some of the public areas to make a new "Executive Lounge" with computers and things. Not quite sure what you need to get in there though... The hotel is just off Junction 6 (Hale) of the M56 motorway, just 2 miles from Manchester Airport. and a 10 minute drive up the M56 to Manchester itself. This makes it quite popular for conferences and seminars, and there were a few going on there last week, one was "Effective decision making for non-executive directors of mutuals", that could have been interesting There's a complimentary shuttle to Manchester Airport and they also offer "Park & Fly" packages (around £8 per day, I think) so you can leave your car there while you jet off... ...There is a free shuttle service running from the airport terminals and vice versa, however they are only small and only carry around 7 people at a time. The hotel is situated in a business area, so you can not really walk around to see nearby villages as it is really quiet and a bit eerie after dark. The hotel itself is clean and tidy,we had trouble to start off with as our keycard would not work to open our room, so had to be allocated another keycard and another room, this keycard also did not work so we were allocated a third card. Check in however was quick, the shuttle service should in my opinion be larger to carry more passengers as some people had to wait for the next one. ...I stayed here in May 08 for 1 night. I was flying out of Donmuang Domestic airport early the next day and the location was ideal as it is a short drive away. On there website they show a bridge connecting the hotel to the airport, we were told this was now closed. Beware of the taxi touts who try and charge 300 Baht to take you there! A metered cab cost us 60 baht. The room was as shown in the advertised pictures, complete with all the amenities, mini bar, bathrobe, tolitries. The beds were really comfotable. My husband and I had some time to spare so were told by the hotel there was a very good shopping mall about 15-20 mins away. It was huge and I got the chance to buy items that are not aimed at tourists and therefore cheaper than places like MBK, Siam square. I would only recommend this hotel to people who... Read review

...I would like to take this opportunity in sharing my experience in the Manchester Airport Hotel. My friend and I had booked a room (no. 321) for one night in the Manchester Airport Hotel for 11th August 2007 at the cost of 49 British pounds. Upon unpacking I noticed that of the two towels provided in the bathroom, the smaller one, showed a large very yellow stain running down the middle of it, the larger one was acceptably clean. One additional large towel could be located in the wardrobe. I rang reception and requested further towels from the young lady answering the phone. Within 2 minutes the night Manager rang back and suggested that I "look in the wardrobe". Having stated that I had indeed already done this, the "manager" started a debate with me. ...Hotel airports are a drag. Hardly anyone really wants to stay in them and they never seem to try very hard to keep their clients happy because most don't come back very often. To me they are just a 'necessary evil' in the process of travel rather than places I'd actually choose to spend time (or for that matter money). I've experienced three types of airport hotel. My favourite (probably because they are least common) are the hotels inside airports where transit passengers can hire a room for just a few hours to have a shower, a nap or watch TV - these are relatively rare and can be fantastic if you have a long connection time (I'm thinking of an 10 hour connection I once had in Kuala Lumpur. The second group are the ultra-expensive business hotels within a short stagger of the airport which are often used for business meetings... Read review

...When we booked our holiday to a cabin Norway I made a fundamental error and miscalculated the time it would take to get from Oslo Gardemeon airport to the fjord area of Norway. With a distance of 293km (182 miles) I thought that we could easily cover the distance in under 3 hours. The route given to me by Multimap three days before we departed gave me a shock as it quoted over 5 hours. As we were landing at 6.30pm I did a quick mental calculation and realised I could be knocking on the cabin owners door the wrong side of midnight, that is if I ever found it in the dark! The solution was a one night stay in a hotel near to the airport. Expedia came up with the goods on this hotel with a cost of £92.37 (1,150 NOK, that is Norwegian Krone) for the one night stay. ...Looking for a hotel to stay in at Gatwick was proving to be quite difficult as I didn't want to pay out a lot for it with it just being for a 1 night stay - however at the same time I wanted to be as near to the airport as possible to make the trip to the airport in the morning as short as possible! After looking up various hotels on the Internet I came across this one and at a cost of just under £50 for two of us for 1 night it was decided that this would fit the bill and so it was booked. The hotel doesn't include airport transfers as does some of the more expensive hotels but at a cost of £3 per person it still worked out cheaper to stay here than to stay at one of the more expensive that did include it in the cost!
