East Midlands Airport

Advantages: Easily accessed, not too busy
Disadvantages: Not a huge range of destinations

...East Midlands Airport is a regional airport located in Castle Donington in Derbyshire. There are flights available to many European destinations, as well as Egypt, USA (Florida) and the Caribbean with charter airlines. I have flown from this airport many times and it is my favourite airport mainly due to it's location, ease of access and relaxed atmosphere. It is easily accessed by car from the M1 (Junction 23 and 23A) or the A50 which is the road I use when travelling from Staffordshire. I live around 50 miles from the airport but the A50 is a relatively quiet road so it's a nice 40 minute drive and I can start my holiday. I find it's easiest to travel to by car but there are local rail links and the airport can be reached from Loughborough, Derby and Nottingham railway stations, depending on where in the country you are...

EAST MIDLANDS AIRPORT

Advantages: Close to where I live
Disadvantages: Catering and that long wet walk.

...I will talk about East Midlands Airport from a Nottingham point of view as that is where I live. Getting to EMA (East Midlands Airport) options. 1) Drive your self, about 14 miles down the A453 which can get very Congested during the Evening Rush Hour so allow lots of time. Also as this is a narrow two lane road subject to holdups when accidents occurr. As long as you prebook your Car Parking space charges not too bad but just turn up and you will have a hefty Bill. 2) Use the Airport link bus from Friar/Lane Nottingham. £9 for a 28 day return, but good value Group ticket at £15 (up to 4 adults and 2 children ) Runs every 30 mins (5 past and 35 past the hour) but in the early hours hourly. If traffic light approx 40 mins. But uses same A453 as above. 3) Taxi from Home with local taxi firm in Radcliffe on Trent approx £45...

Nottingham East Midlands Airport!

Advantages: Not too big, never extremely busy and friendly staff.
Disadvantages: Departure lounge a bit dated, in need of a Re-fit.

BCP Manchester Airport Parking

Advantages: situation of car park adjacent to terminals
Disadvantages: think I have said enough in my review.

...We had arrived at the airport around 4.45 am the 13th july 2009 and to give credit the driver was waiting for us. We went over the usual details but before he left I made sure we went around the car so any damage could be noted on handover, being no damage to the car he handed me the card with the telephone number on and gave me instructions for our return. On returning we went to level 12 terminal 1 to meet the driver, there was also another family there. I noticed our car parked up and the other families car was parked next to ours in adjoining car bays but no driver around. About five minutes later the driver came through with our keys but said he had to go and get our tickets to get out the car park. This gave us time to get the luggage in the boot and get in the car. Car Parking for the Confused

Advantages: easier than a taxi/bus
Disadvantages: could work out expensive, handing over your car keys to strangers

...So as previously mentioned I recently flew to Scotland from Gatwick airport, living where I do I didn't want to be trying to get a train as getting to a train station is tricky and I don't want to be using taxis given how much it can cost to travel 80 miles even when one is prebooked. So knowing I was flying from Gatwick I used the Gatwick airport website to compare the prices of the nearby carparks, it came up with Park Plus as the cheapest by quite a considerable amount for the time period I was looking at. With a 4am drop off on Friday morning and 4pm latest pick up time on Sunday it cost me £18.60. I usually prefer to use public transport to and from the airport but when the flight returns quite late I like to drive back. To book visit their website (www.airparks.co.uk), select the dates that you are looking to park for and they will quote a price. For 6 days this is in the region of £27 or £4.50 per day, so is not too bad. They are listed on several cashback sites, such as quidco and topcashback, so you can get around 10% of this back.
