ATS - Exhaustingly Good
Advantages: Fast Service, Courteous Service
Disadvantages: Garages will differ around the UK
...**Please note the following ATS-Euromaster review is based around the service and products received from the ATS Garage in Newbury, Berkshire.**
*Personal Background*
Earlier on this week I noticed my exhaust was producing a rather unique sounding boy racer noise, complete with a slight rattling of my exhaust box, so decided immediate action was required as I was due in Cardiff the following day. I decided to take my Citroen Saxo (51 reg.) to the local Kick Fit dealers as they had always provided a reputable service in the past, however after an initial free inspection they advised me that I required 3 new parts for my exhaust, an Intermediate Pipe, an Intermediate Silencer Box and a Rear Silencer Box.
However after consulting their catalogue of parts I was told the intermediate parts I needed were not obtainable from their...

Susuki GSXR-750. The Hooligans weapon of choice!!!
Advantages: Speed, handling, reliability, snarly exhaust note.
Disadvantages: Maybe not quite as stylish looking as some other bikes.
...Susuki GSXR-750. The Hooligans weapon of choice!!!
Previous to buying my Gixxer 750 three years ago I owned a 2001 Kawasaki Ninja 600. I ended up having no end of expensive problems with the Kawasaki and in the end I part-exchanged the bike for a brand new Suzuki GSXR-750 K5 model. I bought my bike as the new model was coming out so I got a hefty discount on it. You can pick one of these up for about £4000 now. Which is good considering that they are known for their bomb-proof engines so you shouldn?t get any problems. Just be careful as they are a bit of a track day goers favourite so might have been trashed around race tracks.

The Look

I bought one of the less popular colour schemes, yellow and black. I actually really like this colour. It looks good with my black windshield. A bonus is that you will see a lot...

Short Live Susuki
Advantages: Fair deals
Disadvantages: Many including carefree staff
...EDITED*EDITED*EDITED*EDITED
Susuki today are becoming more and more wide spread but less known. We alaways remember thosestylish 4x4's with the bulky tyres which many of us loved.
However. Go to a dealer now and they also specialize in cars.
THIS IS A WARNING TO ALL THE YOUNG AND VERY NICE PEOPLE OUT THERE LOOKING FOR A NEW CAR!
If you know me well here at Ciao, you'd know that I am crazy for taking new cars out on the road known as a testdrive.
BUT WAIT. Thats not the case here.
I was simply on my way to a friends when I walked past and noticed a used car they were selling dead cheap. It was a Ford Fiesta, S-reg for £4,995. It looked like a bargain so I walked over and started to take a look.
Though. by the way! They do sell approved and used cars, but I think thats a good thing, so thats one good hand to...

Ebley tyres and exhaust
Advantages: cheap and great service
Disadvantages: none
...Having had the exhaust on the car go and tying it up with string as you do, we had to go and get a new one.
We telephoned around and you would not believe the difference in price. We were limited as to how far we could drive with it tied up so could not go to a large town and had to make do with Cirencester and a choice of three places.
At Kwik fit we were quoted at "just over £100" and at ATS they said it will be £110 plus £15 if the manifold bolts and springs are hard to get off - now you can buy these in places like Halfords for £6.00.
Then we telephoned the cheapest which was Ebley. They said £75.00.
On arrival there we found that they had to send for it from their other branch and this would take an hour. But, if we wanted to have a look around the town they would drive us there and pick us up. Now that is service.
Also...

Tyred? Exhausted? Avoid Kwik Fit! *UPDATED*
Advantages: Brake parts insured for life of car
Disadvantages: Very poor workmanship
...a couple of negative reports, they seem to have cleaned up their image.
I was greeted at the reception desk by a mechanic, complete with his trademark blue "Kwik Fit" overalls. After explaining the noise, he informed me of the Kwik Fit Brake Check.
"It's a complete check of your breaking system, and the cost of the service will be deducted from any work that needs doing." I was also presented with a leaflet explaining all that had just been said.
It sounded alright, so I left my car with them.
The reception area and visible workshop were very clean, and well equiped to cope with any of the services that they offer. The branch I went to also sell and fit tyres, exhausts, and shock absorbers.
About an hour later, I got the dreaded phone call...
"Hi it's **** from Kwik Fit. I've got some bad news I'm afraid - the noise you were hearing...

Exhausted I sure am now
Advantages: nil
Disadvantages: not honest
...ATS well advertised, yes, a large company, yes, good reputation, reliable and honest? Answer NO.
Well that is my humble opinion. I recently owned a small citroen AX motor car and the exhaust started to corrode, blow me I thought, the exhaust was only fitted by ATS in High Wycombe less than four months ago! So, off I went with receipt back to ATS where, on the ramp I noticed that the exhaust had completely cracked in half under the manifold area. Unusual I thought, must have had a bad exhaust, maybe made on a Friday night. Anyway, I went for a walk around the shops while the fitter, who I should add was the same fitter who fitted the complete new one four months earlier, replaced the exhaust parts for a new one again.
Off I go, but to my surprise, about one month later it blows again, can't believe my bad luck, two faulty exhausts! How...

Suzuki Gn125
Advantages: fuel economy, price
Disadvantages: corrosion, depreciation, acceleration, top speed
...The original intention was to by a Suzuki Van Van. However, I took my CBT on a GN125 and decided that it wouldn't be a bad first bike to learn on. It's also significantly cheaper than a Van Van and top speed is higher.
Bought the bike new back in April 2006 for £1400. The bike was a grey import - Suzuki no longer officially supply this bike to the UK market. As a result the speedometer is in km/h which is a little annoying. That's the only difference that I am aware of from a standard UK bike. I used the bike daily until recently to ride too and from the station.
The bike rides quite well bearing in mind its size. Acceleration is obviously poor compared to a bigger bike but not as bad as you might think. It could certainly outrun the average car from standstill. It really starts to struggle once you get up to 50mph...

Suzuki Vitara
Advantages: Four Wheel Drive
Disadvantages: No visibility through rear window.
...We bought our Vitara from the local Suzuki dealer a few weeks ago.Its now been used on long and short journeys, round town and on the open road.
The engine is 1600cc.It has a 5 speed manual gearbox driven through the rear wheels with the option of 4 wheel drive for icy/snowy conditions.
Dont be fooled into thinking that this is a car for the serious off roader...its not.But it will get you out of a muddy field or down an icy road.
The interior of the car is basic. There is no sunroof,no electric windows,no air con and no c.d player.Though it does have central locking and an immobiliser fitted as standard.
Ours is the 3 door "estate" .Its only called an estate for insurance purposes (which is group 9 ),you only have to open the rear door to see that ! With the rear seats in use you would be hard pushed to get more than two...

Suzuki SV650(s) : Simply..a damn good bike
Advantages: Light, economical, easy to ride and fun. Comfortable too.
Disadvantages: Sound with standard can! Niggly quality issues..
...by 6-12mm to keep rake the same.
It's very light as well, it took me a while to learn to ride it after coming from a Z750.. like it just turns in and I ended up having to sit up to get back on line :D
Reliability
Some issues with the curvy SV models are just silly, such as a clutch cover that can weep oil as it warps over time. It's made of plastic so what do you expect? Can be replaced with a metal one from woodcraft or a new plastic one, although the issue will come back after a while. When replacing a plastic cover with a new one, be sure to apply some Suzuki bond around the join to be sure it won't happen again, along with a new o-ring. Other than that it's a very durable engine and lasts forever, just keep it serviced ETC ETC.
Practicality
Fuel range is anything between 110 and 220 miles depending on how you...

Suzuki SV650 - What a great bike full stop
Advantages: Brilliant first / budget bike, sporty all rounder, mid-range grunt, cheap
Disadvantages: Budget suspension, budget feel
....
Brakes
I would recommend you fit braided stainless hoses to the front brakes to sharpen up the brakes, leave the rear as is or replace with standard suzuki rubber hoses, or it will be too sharp. Locking rear tyre happens too easily otherwise. Also clean front pistons regularly to keep the braking performance good.
Exhaust
Everyone loves the sound of a v-twin, and this is one stock exhaust, which doesn’t shout about its self. I guess it’s a matter of choice, but if you are going to get a fruitier exhaust, can I suggest you buy a road legal one, not because of the plod, but just because an SV with an aftermarket race can is VERY VERY LOUD INDEED!!!!!!! I had a road legal one for a bit (Quill Powerflow, which was a poor fitting exhaust, but made a great sound), and a carbon can co Race can which was too loud for me and scared me...
