Al Murray = Marmite
Review of Al Murray - The Pub Landlord - Live - My Gaff My Rules DVD by
Toad283
Advantages: Traditional Comedy
Disadvantages: Traditional Comedy
...Al Murray is a love/hate kind of stand-up - his archetypal pub humour seems to appeal more to what the media would consider a generation that's past. I'm not so sure this is the case. This stand-up routine holds up with "comedy genii" of today, the Peter Kay's and Ricky Gervais' of the world, but is just more old-fashioned.
To those who saw Time Gentleman Please, the underrated sitcom in which Murray played his Landlord character, his stand-up is a natural extension of this. The bigoted, patriotic and traditional pub landlord, standing up for all that is British.
One of the strengths of the characters is that there is something ridiculously gay about Murray anyway. The fact we know this humour is tongue-in-cheek almost makes it acceptable to laugh at.
As an old traditionalist (says a boy of 17), there's certainly room...

Murray delivers a delicious pint of comedy
Review of Al Murray - Giving It In Both Barrels DVD by
salmonchaplin
Advantages: Hillarious, side splittingly funny at times
Disadvantages: Very similar to his previous shows
...Those familiar with Al Murray's pub landlord character will most likely have been won over by him already, and this DVD will surely reaffirm your love for the character and want very much to get in the next round from the landlords pub.
This show is a cool refreshing pint of comedy fun.
The show starts with Murray's routine of picking on the audience (in jest of course) about their profession, appearance, name and just about any comedy gold he can scrape from them and it is (without using the acronym "Lol") laugh out loud funny. Murray's quick wit and ability to think on his feet is astounding, he obviously must have some pre prepared jokes for this purpose but nevertheless he delivers them with snappy comic timing and confidence (gained through the shield of a comic character) with clever callbacks and memory that are also...

All hail the ale!
Review of Al Murray - The Pub Landlord - Live - My Gaff My Rules DVD by
nkemp_99
Advantages: Hillariously funny
Disadvantages: Don't watch in front of the parents!
...Al Murray is here in his first live stand-up DVD. For anyone who has not seen the landlord live I will fill you in on his main philosophies in life.
Men drink beer
Women drink wine (or a fruit based beverage)
The French are all scum
That's pretty much it! It's a simple life made all the more understandable once you've been drinking! This DVD shows Murray at the Playhouse theatre in London. Though you may be worried that it will all be scripted comedy (following the likes of The Office's Ricky Gervais) this comedian has a very different style.
For the first half of the act he talks to people in the audience "Hello guv what's your name?" No matter what they say the trademark response of "Beautiful British name" follows. This is funny but can become a bit repetitive at points. My personal favorite was when he asked one...

Time Gentlemen Please fansite
Review of Time Gentlemen Please! - Al Murray by
desmond_hoo
Advantages: Tons of stuff related to Time Gentlemen Please!
Disadvantages: Sound clip sometimes crashes my browser.
...If you like Time Gentlemen Please (TGP) there is a fantastic fan website with all sorts of obscure facts from the show. The address is:-
http://www.timegentlemenplease.net
The address is easy to type and you are greeted with a welcome screen which has a joke based on the begining of the show.
Once you enter the site you will be greeted with a TGP soundclip. This is the only thing that has given me any problems as if I click on any links before the soundclip finishes my browser (Internet Explorer) crashes. However as long as I wait this is not a problem.
The webmaster has included info on the cast, an episode guide, multimedia clips, lists of infomation (such as reasons why Terry was barred from the Gaff), and an opportunity to ask questions to Al Murray.
This would make a good site in itself but the webmaster has added...

Never Confused
Review of Time Gentlemen Please! - Al Murray by
pablodiabloescobar
Advantages: brilliant
Disadvantages: yeah right
...Although at first i was slightly unimpressed with TGP it grew on me like a rash and all of a sudden i am coming out with the most inane drivel quoting this great show.
Based on Al Murrays' pub landlord character this programme tells the story of Guv the landlord of the pub by the chemical works. Other characters include, prof, a strange mummys boy who may have a dark secret. Terry, a disgusting regular who wants to marry anything and can 'fart talk' and Greg Thompson, the landlord of the Queen Of hearts, he also has a large member.
Although the setting of a pub could restrict the storylines slightly the writers keep the show fresh showing us different sides to each of the many characters. Another plus point is the fact that each series has a load of episodes, not your standard 6 here like on bbc or itv. we actually get to know...

“Jazz etc” by John Murray
Review of Jazz Etc - John Murray by
barefoot777
Advantages: very convincing style of writing
Disadvantages: sometimes contains too much information on one page
...***
John Murray, born in West Cumbria in UK now lives in Brampton near Carlisle. A writer with reporting kind of talent, a lover of words, Murray in “Jazz etc” is intelligent and educativily informative. By now, he has published five critically honored novels and a collection of stories, “Pleasure”, which won the Dylan Thomas Award in 1988. His novels, “Radio Activity” (1993) and “Reiver Blues” (1996), were nominated as Books of the Year in The Spectator, The Independent and The Observer. In 1984 Murray founded the fiction magazine, “Panurge”, the magazine that celebrated a number of young writers. John Murray's previous novel, “John Dory”, was listed for the Lakeland Book of the Year and won the creative category, the first novel to receive such an award...

Murray Globakl Return Shares - A great product
Review of Murray Johnstone Ltd - Murray Global Return Investment trust by
jonwhite
Advantages: Well managed, easy withdrawl, easy to understand, good up to date web site
Disadvantages: 1% penalty for withdrawl
...I can reccomend the Murray Global return Investment Trust Zero Div 25p pref shares.
Murray Johnstone are a financial institution who specialise in ISA's, Unit Trusts, stocks and shares.
I chose to use them as they have an excellent reputation and have consistently returned good dividends for members.
I currently have two types of shares with them. This opinion is about their Murray Global return Investment Trust Zero Div 25p pref shares.
Since taking out this option with them in March I have already seen an increase in my investment of 3% in just 6 months and it continues to grow and is forecast for a yearly growth of over 7% this year.
I am very pleased with the way Murray Johnstone manages its funds and they regularly supply reports and updates to members keeping you up to date with your portfolio....

Murray Walker - The Pits.
Review of Murray Walker by
baddog
Advantages: Good humoured, enthusiastic.
Disadvantages: Excitable, repetitive, incompetant, has become a caricature.
...Why are we English so protective of our crumbling monuments? Houses, statues, vehicles, memoirs of a bygone age, as they rust and erode are lovingly restored. It will, however need more than a coat of paint and some Polyfiller to keep Murray Walker on track much longer.
Murray, we are told, is an institution. To my mind he should be confined in one. Every second Sunday of the Grand Prix season this sad, bumbling man ruins my enjoyment of a heroic sporting contest. As he wrongly identifies the team, the driver and occasionally the venue, he enthrals me with his repetitions, clichés, apologies and opinions of what the drivers are thinking. I know that he’s enthusiastic, knowledgeable and he’s been in Formula One since the Crusades but enough is enough. Martin Brundle is calm, concise and informative. He would be even more...
