Alamo - Los Angeles

Advantages: They hire out cars
Disadvantages: Poor customer service, just want to take your money and see ya later

...Before I begin here, I just would like to point out that this is a review only on the service given at the Alamo in Los Angeles. Here goes ... I had booked to hire a 4x4 online through Alamo - the only reason I picked them was that they were the cheapest I could find. We had a one way hire from LA to Miami, and the car which was a Chevy Blazer was great in itself, spacious, it held all our luggage (we had a lot for just 3 of us), comfortable, decent radio cd system, the lot. Nothing luxurious, but it did us for our trip across America. (Visiting San Francisco, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Roswell, Dallas, Memphis, New Orleans, Orlando, and Miami - so we did a lot of miles). Alamo - Orlando International Airport

Advantages: Many outlets; range of vehicles
Disadvantages: Queues poor customer care

...never used Alamo beforebut it came with part of our package from British Airways. Before our trip we had filled in a "Quick Pass" which basically meant us filling in our driver details before the holiday and thus saving time queing and relaying details. Arrived at the Alamo desk at the airport and saw a long line of people - however theQuick Pass sign was out and no-one in the queue. stood there and once a new assistant came free waited for the nod to go forward - nope he ignored us - not one to be ignored stepped forward to be told that "we dont really bother with Quick Pass anymore - you'll have to stand in line. I didn't. told them that I had not wasted my time filling in a card and mailing it etc to be told to stand in line and wait. with a grunt and groan he served me and gave me "directions" of where to pick the car from...

BEAWARE- ALAMO NASSAU

Advantages: cheap price
Disadvantages: horrible customer service, trying to rip off

...BE AWARE- ALAMO RENTAL CAR IN NASSAU, BAHAMAS We rented an economy car for our vacation and paid for Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) daily. On the last day of our trip in the parking lot we found minor scratched on the bumper. (people literally drive like crap out there). When we return the car, the lady was yelling at us about the scratches, and saying she was going to charge us for the damage. We told her that since we paid for CDW, it should be covered. She then asked our fax number and saying if anything she will fax us. 2 months later 200$ was taken out from our credit card without any notice. We never received any faxes or phone calls. We complained to Alamo international and they just told us "There is nothing we could do since it is outside of the States"......

Going Places - Or Trying To!!!

Advantages: Gave us an upgrade after problems

...***Background*** Our honeymoon adventure could only be done if we had a reliable car to drive round a total of four different States in the USA. Luckily our travel agent was able to arrange all this for us and suggested that we go with a company called Alamo. I had vaguely heard of them but since I have never had to hire a car before, I was a bit in the dark so advice was gratefully accepted. We reckoned that we would only need a compact car, since there was only the two of us and that this would be sufficient for our luggage requirements too. "We need a lot more men!"

Advantages: Superb settings in a 'real town' rather than digital effects.
Disadvantages: Sticks to historical fact - which can be confusing.

...I was lucky enough to be based in Los Alamos, New Mexico for a couple of years and so far, they were the best years of my life. During my time in the US I was able to travel reasonably widely and although each state has its own charms there is something about New Mexico that, as the license plates say, make it the 'Land of Enchantment'. Los Alamos itself is a small town, akin to many smallish University towns in the UK with a very unique history. For those that aren't aware it was where the nuclear bomb was developed that 'won the war'. ...I have read another complaint almost identical to ours. Shame it was too late for us. Hope you see this before it happens to you too! Our car was hired from Alamo, located at Sanford International Airport, Orlando. It had been arranged as part of our holiday package and was paid for prior to our arrival from the United Kingdom. When we arrived to collect the car, the staff were very friendly and we were told we could upgrade our car for FREE because there was a shortage of the smaller car we'd hired. We were told to just take our pick and that all we had to do was to return the car with an empty tank!! On the date we flew back to the UK £129+ was taken from our Credit card account. Paid 681 $ /441 ? for one night rental car!!!!

Disadvantages: Unbelievable customer policies! Unfriendly. Short term money is more worth than a satisfied customer.

...Very poor customer policies! Alamo really surprised us with very strange business ethics! To sum up my experience: Alamo personnel give customers false information (about reimbursement and about car details). Alamo cannot handle special requests (we needed a special car and tried to solve this in advance). Alamo rather takes short term money instead of building a long term relationship with a satisfied customer. The whole story: We made a reservation from Germany and rented a car in Reno. As we planned a camping tour, we needed a stow & go car because we intended to sleep in the back. In order to make sure that we get this special car we phoned Alamo in Reno in advance which car to book and explained that we definitely need this car type and no other. They told us we need a Full Size SUV and promised us that this is no problem...

Good quality Holiday car hire

Advantages: Nice well equipped cars.
Disadvantages: Queues-not what you need after a ten hour flight

...Ive now rented with Alamo/National car hire in the states now three time.Each time Ive found no problems at all.Ive found the staff to be very helpful...everyone was offered me a map and directions for journey when first collect the vehicle...some thing thats very welcoming when you are in a strange country. From both Miami and Los Angeles airport locations where I have rented from, the longest I had to wait for a shuttle bus which runs from directly outside any exit was 3 minutes...(even on 1am in the morning). Queues when your waiting to fill in your paperwork to pick up your car can be long(30 minutes), second time I paided about £15.00 for the full rental period and got lots of benefits....express pick up...no cancellation fees...and a full tank of petrol and an additional driver. All cars Ive had, have been new with low...
