...We purchased our Wicks wire free alarm when we moved into our new house three years ago, having been burgaled two years previously at our former address i needed something to give me piece of mind having two young children in the house (i became a bit of a basket case for a while after, and have developed ocd since!!) The alarm came with a keypad that has to be near a plug socket and plugged in at all times, although there is a solar battery in the outside box in case of power cuts. You also get as part of the basic package two room sensors that if placed in the correct part of the room ie, the corner, scans 180 degrees round the room to detect movement. Micromark Wirefree Alarm System

Advantages: Easy to Install
Disadvantages: Has a mind of its own!

...Originally bought this alarm after realising the walls to my house are half a metre thick. Not good for drilling cable holes. Anyway, it was easy to install and looks just like a wired alarm. However, after only a week, we had real trouble disarming the system. This was particularly problematic when coming back from a night out at 3am, not something the neighnours appreciate at all. The key ring disamer and the keypad intermittantly fail to disarm the system. Spoke to Micromark who suggested lots of little things that didnt work, even suggested changing batteries which were just a week old! I took it back in the end, to Argos where I bough it who gave me a new shiny one. This I installed using instructions to the letter and had no problems for about a week. ...Bose SoundDock Digital Music System I happened to get this as a gift and it turned out to be quiet interesting Summary: This dock is used mainly for ipod and allows you to connet mp3 players to it and listen to high quality music via speakers. It is idle for homes and small gatherings, although I would not run a party off these. Pros: This system has terrific sound and can go very load despite its relative small size. As with almost all Bose speakers the quality is amazing, so long as the source you are playing it from is high quality it will allow the speakers to each its potential. I have a surround sound Bose set up in one of my rooms but now prefer to use this product as it is very simple to operate. Just plug the mp3 player in and press play and your set. Can't get much simpler. It also runs off a wall...

...It's an alarming thought that someone dies every day due to the fact they never had a smoke alarm fitted. Another reason for this is the removal of the devices' battery, or indeed a flat battery. It is to this end that our local council comes round a check on a regular basis. If you do have a smoke alarm fitted and it tends to beep now and then, this could be an indication the battery needs replaced. Most fires start at night and if you do not have an alarm fitted your chances of survival are virtually Zero. Fire is not the main killer in accidents like this. If you have no alarm and are asleep, it's the smoke that's going to get you first. Not a nice way to go, but you can give yourself a fighting chance if you BUY A SMOKE ALARM. We have two smoke alarms in our house, and there are many occasions when I felt like breaking them...

Smoke alarm and pendant light in one - fantastic

Advantages: Barely noticeable looks, no batteries to change, illuminates lights to help escape
Disadvantages: May suddenly turn the bedroom light on at 2am if there's a power cut

...This is an excellent solution to having unsightly smoke alarms on the ceiling. The Housesafe smoke alarm replaces the normal pendant light rose on the ceiling and the smoke alarm and sensors are concealed in the base. It is wired into the mains like a normal pendant light would be and once smoke has been detected, the siren activates and automatically illuminates the pendant light to provide an illuminated escape route. In the event of a mains power failure, the alarm is still operational via a rechargeable battery contained within it and it contains a power monitoring supply system to ensure 100% effectiveness. The area of power failures is, I think, it's only downfall. If say, you have one of these in your bedroom and there's a power failure at 3am, the alarm will switch to battery power and automatically turn the bedroom...

Silent Alarm

Advantages: The true revival of Joy Division-esque music
Disadvantages: Tracks are somewhat too similar at times

...Bloc Party's debut album, 'Silent Alarm' arrived in mid Feb 2005 to critical acclaim as the possible answer for the next Joy Division, and it's clear to see why. The first thing you can note is the 'indie' feel, and the drum beats that are reminiscent of Joy Division at their brief yet best time. The guitars seemed to have picked up their own unique sound as well, and Kele Okereke's vocals are strong, and something Damon Albarn-like about them. The opening track 'Like Eating Glass' is an excellent starting point, and could quite easily be a single at some point. The musical elements here are an excellent indication of what is to follow throughout the album. 'Helicopter' is one of the albums highlights, and proof of some of the catchy and exciting guitar riffs on the album. Released as a single, it is certainly a song that will...

In actual fact this is a stand alone novel and does not use characters from Spindler?s other novels although, like her other novels, it is set in the New Orleans area. Disappointingly the setting is neither here nor there as it has no particular relevance to the story, nor does it successfully capture the essence of that fine southern city in spite of occasional reference to the grand houses associated with New Orleans area. After a couple of chapters I realised that ?Cause for Alarm? didn?t feature the characters I?d met in the other Spindler novel I?d read and so I turned to the back cover blurb. Curiously...

I was referred to an ADT salesman, who arrived and assessing the situation, came up with an affordable plan for me. I signed an agreement for the plan, and the next day a technician arrived and installed the alarm. He then made sure I understood how to arm and disarm the system. I was also given easy to follow step-by-step instructions and a video. They do want to make sure you understand the system. They want to avoid 'false' alarms, and you are only allowed three a year...

Great system

Advantages: great picture, great games.
Disadvantages: Can overheat, can cut the circle of death.

...The Xbox 360 is a great representation of the next gen consoles. It has a sleek look that is customizable with faceplate skins if you so choose and it is able to be placed in the normal consol position or up on it's side. In the graphics department regardless of whether you are using regular component video cables or running it to an HD tv it looks amazing. I am a fan of war, fantasy and hockey games as well as things like Dead rising and Saints row, all of which look great just running on normal cables to the back of the tv, when on my big screen it looks even better. It surpasses the wii easily and is on par with PS3, the PS3 is better for textures where the xbox is a much better system for shading and shadows. The system goes wireless on it's controllers or if you don't want to lose batteries you can buy a wired controller...
