As such finding the Alba DVD45 for a mere £27.99 in my local Asda was a Godsend. Measuring 36 cm across and 5 cm high this is a surprisingly slimline DVD player. It is quite stylish for the price with a silver shell and black panel front. A superb small room 16" LCD FREEVIEW HDTV from ALBA!!!!!!!!!

Advantages: Small, well built, great picture and sound, HDMI, Freeview and loads other connections.
Disadvantages: NONE, NONE NONE!!!!

Alba DVD 62 - You get what you pay for...

Advantages: Cheap, small, easy to use
Disadvantages: Over time stops playing recorded discs

...I purchased a Alba DVD62XI from Argos about a year ago as I wanted a cheap DVD player than played recorded DVDs. This is the cheapest I could find (based on other reviews that it played copied discs). The DVD player worked fine for about 3 or 4 months before I started having issues. After that time the DVD player began skipping and lost the ability to read recorded discs. Nothing had happened in that time (The player had not been dropped or even moved), so I am still baffled to this day as to why it happened. I know someone else who has the exact same player and they have had the same issues, although it took a little bit longer to happen. Vila Alba Apartments, Albufeira, Portugal

Advantages: Fairly quiet area, good location, family friendly, rooms in good condition

I really enjoyed my stay here and would not hesitate to return - the apartment became a large aspect of the holiday! The location of the apartments is not in Albufeira itself, but just outside. Although the apartments are simply a 5-10 minute walk from The Strip (where there are many cafes, bars and little shops), it is a fairly quiet area, with little to no disturbance. Advantages: Easy to obtain, very cheap, multi frequency
Disadvantages: Will not work with digital satellite signals

...If you don't want digital but are looking for a reasonable analogue system, the Alba ISR7000 could be the answer you're looking for. Although Alba has a reputation for cheap and cheerful products, in this instance they have gained good ground with the ISR7000. It's a very plain looking compact unit, but internally does the biz without missing a beat, and when you consider that this model is now 3 to 4 years old and still going strong, it makes the competition in most cases absolute rubbish. For example I know of at least 3 friends who have owned or used the Amstrad and Pace equivalent unit, and have long since chucked them as they continually break down.
