A superb small room 16" LCD FREEVIEW HDTV from ALBA!!!!!!!!!

Advantages: Small, well built, great picture and sound, HDMI, Freeview and loads other connections.
Disadvantages: NONE, NONE NONE!!!!

As we have a reletively small kitchen and a handy perfect space to house a small LCD TV, I set about looking for one so we could see the news in the morning while the terror is watching Spongebob before school on the big one! I am known as gadget boy by my mates and will not buy low quality items, especially when it is electronic. Panasonic and Toshiba are my firms of choice and that is where I was looking. Advantages: Dirt cheap, slimline, plays MP3's and CD's.
Disadvantages: Not multi-region, remote will not last.

Alba DVD 62 - You get what you pay for...

Advantages: Cheap, small, easy to use
Disadvantages: Over time stops playing recorded discs

...I purchased a Alba DVD62XI from Argos about a year ago as I wanted a cheap DVD player than played recorded DVDs. This is the cheapest I could find (based on other reviews that it played copied discs). The DVD player worked fine for about 3 or 4 months before I started having issues. After that time the DVD player began skipping and lost the ability to read recorded discs. Nothing had happened in that time (The player had not been dropped or even moved), so I am still baffled to this day as to why it happened. I know someone else who has the exact same player and they have had the same issues, although it took a little bit longer to happen. ...If you don't want digital but are looking for a reasonable analogue system, the Alba ISR7000 could be the answer you're looking for. Although Alba has a reputation for cheap and cheerful products, in this instance they have gained good ground with the ISR7000. It's a very plain looking compact unit, but internally does the biz without missing a beat, and when you consider that this model is now 3 to 4 years old and still going strong, it makes the competition in most cases absolute rubbish.
