Victoria, but no Prince Albert
Advantages: Clean, comfortable and friendly
Disadvantages: Traffic noise
...I was working down in Cambridge a few weeks ago and the company thoughtfully pre-booked me accommodation at the Victoria Guest House on Arbury road. Rather more thoughtlessly, I was working at the opposite end of the city, so convenience was not their prime consideration.
Arbury Road leads off from the inner ring road and is, in fact, relatively handy for the city centre (the north side, at least). Still, I'm getting paid for sitting in a traffic jam, so what do I care?
The guest house occupies two former semi-detached Victorian villas in an area of similar houses. It's a fairly busy road and parking is quite limited.
As I said, I was pre-booked so it was only a matter of turning up at the door and introducing myself to the owner who was very welcoming. During the course of our chat, he gave me some local info then mentioned there...

A tale of two cousins
Advantages: First-class acting and a host of star names
Disadvantages: Twp slip-ups in the date department [see review]
...Condensing the story of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert into a three-hour film (BBC TV, two parts, August 2001, repeated in one part, September 2002) can have been no easy task. But this star-studded costume drama did the job superbly, leaving this viewer at least with little to criticise.
A costume drama needs a good, entertaining story to hook the viewer. The dialogue has to be effective, neither too stilted nor dumbed down into irretrievable silliness. To take a fairly recent example, that abysmal ‘Bertie and Elizabeth’, about King George VI and the Queen Mother, was a classic example of how NOT to do it. If a well-known historical subject is the theme, it should follow the facts as faithfully as it can, bearing in mind that a lengthy story needs to be shoehorned into a comparatively small frame. Last but not...

Victoria Centre Nottingham
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...Nottingham has two large shopping centres, the Broadmarsh Centre and the Victoria Centre, situated at opposite ends of the city centre .The Victoria Centre is the bigger of the two, containing 120 shops (not counting all the various stalls in the market area.)
Getting there is easy - if you drive, there's parking for over 2700 cars . If you don't drive, don't worry - almost all the Nottingham City Transport buses stop either directly outside the Victoria Centre, or within a few minutes walk of it . Other bus companies from slightly further afield, such as Trent Barton , terminate at the local coach station within the centre . If you're walking, the centre is signposted from various points in the city centre, and at the end of the day when you're weighed down with shopping, there are 2 taxi ranks directly outside the main entrance...

Marry first ... fall in love later
Advantages: A Beautiful Drama
Disadvantages: I can't think of any.
...Every now and then television throws up with a gem of a programme. It's something the BBC has always been so good at; remember all those Sunday evenings with Elizabeth Bennet and Mr D'Arcy? or going back even further with Pip and Miss Havisham in Great Expectations? They've been a little thin on the ground recently and I was beginning to think along the lines of "they don't make them like that anymore". But my faith has been restored. And what happened to change my mind? 'Victoria and Albert', that's what.
On the surface it appeared that it was gonig to be just another BBC Period Drama: Formulaic and quite dull, playing on a fantastic reputation for the genre that stretches back to the 1960's and 'The Forsyte Saga', rather than create a new piece of "faction". The two part series, shown over the bank holiday weekend last year...

The V & A: Vast and atractive
Advantages: free so much to see wonderful objects
Disadvantages: expensive food in the cafe, size can make it difficult to navigate
...The Victorian age was probably the golden age of museum building. They gathered vast collections and put them in splendid buildings for the good of the public so their lives would be enriched by the knowledge they gained from these institutions. (It was also a way for the great unwashed to spend their spare time more effectively and keep them out of the pub). One of the greatest of these is the Victoria and Albert Museum (fondly known as the V &A) which is the national museum for the decorative and applied arts. It is a place I have always quite fancied visiting but have only been in London visiting Duskman and it is not a place I think he would enjoy that much. Now that we actually live in London I thought I would spend near enough a day just wandering round this vast museum and appreciating the beautiful objects on display.
The V...

Albert 3 calculator by texet.
Advantages: scientific, easy to use, long life, easy to see display and buttons.
Disadvantages: whole back needs to come off when replacing battery, no auto turn off.
...the albert 3 is a 2 lined display calculator that is approved for GCSE/ a-level exams etc. the calculator runs simply off a lithium ion 3v battery (this calculator has not got a solar strip), if the battery was ever to run out of power you will be able to pick up some cheap ones from a store such as WHsmiths for around £1.00-2.00.
the design of the calculator is perfect, it has a rubber coating that sits around the sides of the calculator so you don't lose any grip. the calculators buttons are made from a solid plastic that seems to last some time, i have had the calculator around 1 and a half years and still it has not broke, the writing on the keys has not faded at all either.
the calculator comes with a cover that is pushed onto it instead of sliding it like most calculators, with the case it does not come loose as the rubber...

WWF Albert
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...Albert
Albert is a very big man - he weighs in at 350 pounds and most of that is pure muscle! and he is a big man too, 6'8 inches or somewhere along those lines!
He has an array of moves he uses. The first is his finisher - the Baldo Bombb; aptly named considering his hair style... or lack thereof... In which he lifts them by the throat and drives them to the floor.
Second is the big kick, a standing scissor kick type thing, it looks good and is very effective. He also uses coner splash and big splashes, gorrila press slams and basically any and all power moves...
He started as Prince Albert and feuded on Metal with D'Lo Brown; he then went up the rankings and teamed with the Big Bossman. He then formed the T&A with Test (Test and Albert equals T&A, Get it?) and they came close to the tag titles but never got them. they then...

Victoria Park Plaza Hotel, London It's More Than A Hotel!
Advantages: Pleasant Staff, Good Customer Service, Nice Breakfast
Disadvantages: Expensive
...The Victoria Park Plaza in London is an amazing hotel that has very comfortable, quality rooms and staff who are friendly and professional. The best thing about The Victoria Park Plaza is that it is in a prime position just two minutes from Victoria Station and an easy walk to some of London's main attractions. I found it perfect for shopping and buying souvenirs. There were also quite a number of restaurants close by and my mum who cannot walk far didn't complain once. Although we ate at the hotel we also sampled London's China Town.
It is a four star hotel and lives up to the standard. It is situated close to Buckingham Palace, Harrods, Westminster Abbey and Houses of Parliament. The hotel does not allow smoking anywhere near the building which my mum and I really appreciated because we are both none smokers. The smoking ban made...

The Albert-Traditional Victorian Pub
Advantages: Good food and drinks. Nice building. Grade II listed
Disadvantages: Very popular
...This traditional pub, built in 1865, is handy if you need to go to Parliament,to Church or to contact the Police for it
is near to The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and New Scotland Yard. It is Grade II listed building
and this fine hostelry in Victoria Street has marvellous etched glass windows, original gas lights,wrought-iron balconies
and a very traditional feel about it.No wonder it attracts a lot of overseas visitors as well as local residents.
The Albert serves up fine real ales as well as a good range of lagers, wines and spirits and it is just possible you might
meet your MP there. Definitely a convivial place worth lingering in.! If you start to feel peckish you can adjourn to the first floor restaurant which has an excellent carvery.Prices are reasonable and the ambiance very pleasant.
If you are...

Victoria Beckham Learns To Fly!
Advantages: Fantastic read, bite sized, gives an insight in to her life
Disadvantages: None
...This is an autobiography by Victoria Beckham which talks you through the early years of her life as well as the first years of her relationship with David Beckham and the birth of their first child, Brooklyn. It follows the success of the Spice Girls and the start of Victoria's solo career when she released an album of her own work and a single with Dane Bowers (from Another Level).
The book is supposed to show you the real Victoria Beckham and I really feel that this is the case. You learn all about her insecurities and her issues with eating and trusting people in her life as well as the truth about the kidnap plots again her & Brooklyn when he was first born and all the emotions that she felt because of this. It also talks about what it was like for her when she was growing up and knew that she wanted to be a star but she really...
