Disadvantages: location its a 20 min walk away from the lively town

...Alfagar apartments Albufeira. We were on the coach from the Airport at Faro for about 1hr before being dropped off at the Alfagar Apartments. When we arrived at about tea time we went to the reception and were greeted by the receptionist who took our passports over night (we were later told by a English man living in Albufeira that due to passport cloning we should have refused to do this.) and he arranged for a member of staff to take us to our room in his people carrier. The room was only a minuet away but there were two ways to go, one was up stairs but with our cases that wasn't practical and the other was around the pool but it was the busiest time of the day when we arrived so the staff took us in there car the long way round which I thought was very nice of them. Vila Alba Apartments, Albufeira, Portugal

Advantages: Fairly quiet area, good location, family friendly, rooms in good condition
Disadvantages: Quality of kitchen facilities could have been better

...I visited the Algarve last summer with a few friends and stayed at Vila Alba apartments during our two-week stay. I really enjoyed my stay here and would not hesitate to return - the apartment became a large aspect of the holiday! The location of the apartments is not in Albufeira itself, but just outside. Although the apartments are simply a 5-10 minute walk from The Strip (where there are many cafes, bars and little shops), it is a fairly quiet area, with little to no disturbance. The apartments are quite detached from one another, so this further lessens the noise levels. The apartments are around a 20 minute walk to the beach. The rooms themselves are of very good quality. The lounge area includea a TV with several channels; some in Portugese and some English. Even the CBeebies channel was available, which is great if you...

Albufeira (Portugal) 4 Star Self Catering Hotel

Advantages: Near all amenities. Good central Location.
Disadvantages: You cannot book the sun (pity)

...Flights: The nearest airport is Faro in Portugal. BA flies there as do the main cheapos. Ryan Air flies from Stanstead whilst Easy Jet flies from Gatwick, Luton and Stanstead. The earlier the flight is booked the cheaper the cost. Faro Airport: A smallish airport. Quite quick once landed but not too funny when flying back, as once you're through security, the shops and eating area is quite small. Expect long and slow queues when trying to eat or drink. Taxi's: Are available from the airport but I dont know their cost. If you're with a tour operator they will usually supply transport. If you've booked with the hotel direct, they can arrange an air-conditioned taxi for a fee of about 30 Euro's. Travelling time to Albufeira is about 40 mins. Albufeira: Imagine a road about 1 mile long, with a few roundabouts dotted along...

Perola Do Algarve - Albufeira

Advantages: Central location between old town and the strip, quiet, room was a nice size,
Disadvantages: Run-down, shabby, strange layout, sunbeds looked old, indoor pool opening times are strange,

...and golden. Also hop onto the tourist train, it's cheap and saves your feet! Overall lots of run down shabby places, not as pretty as Madeira. Also lots of graffitti and poor people (including little kids rumaging in bins) We paid £140 each so wasn't expecting much in the way of the hotel but it is rated as 4* but is more like a 2*. If you really want to visit Albufeira stay at the Monchelo hotel, we had a sneky peek around this and it was lush. But don't go during December, this seems to be when all the demolition, roadworks, JCBS on the beaches! and all other improvements are going on!!...

This is my 1st choice hotel for Albufeira.....

Advantages: Excellent Location, Clean, Good Food
Disadvantages: No fridges in rooms

...This is my third time staying in Albufeira (March 2007). I have previously stayed at the Paraisio and Brisa Sol which are also four star hotels next door to the Vale Gale Cerra Alagoa. Out of all three hotels this is my first choice, followed by the paraisio. The staff in the hotel speak good english and service was very efficient. I was also give an upgrade to my room. I was put on 2nd floor and got moved to the 3rd floor in a newer room. (the hotel are in the process of modernising all the rooms, so I would recommend you try to get one with at least the number 42 at the end i.e. 142,242,342,44) The hotel operate on a key card system as opposed to having to carry keys around. I also lost my key card and the staff did not charge me, nor seem unduly worried. The room itself was large with two twin beds pushed together...

A "late booking" holiday to Albufeira

Advantages: A small, friendly and very clean establishment with excellent views over the town
Disadvantages: A fairly steep climb from the town up 90 steps and a hill.

...or coffee and usually eggs, fried, scrambled or boiled together with bacon, followed by toast. The hotel has a nice terrace with a small pool but the beach is splendid which was just what we were looking forward to and we had a good week mainly sunning ourselves there, cooling off in the Atlantic rollers and having good feasts when hungry. We had a good week and would go again to the Mansao Bertolina Unfortunately Albufeira is in the throes of very major roadworks at present so we would recommend waiting until these are finished before going there on holiday as there is a lot of dust and rubble about. The local tourist office reckoned that the roadworks would be finished by the end of June 2006 but to us this looked impossible and the general view seemed to be that September/October would be more like it. Nevertheless the local business...

Disadvantages: 25 Minutes Walk To Town, Not A Lot To Do Outside Complex

...We booked our holiday at the Alfagar Apartments via www.otbeach.com - the paperwork was all email based and we took our paper confirmation to reception on arrival. It is approximately 40 minutes from the airport, 5 minutes from the beach and a 10 minute drive or 20/25minute walk to Albufeira town. Reception The reception area is open 24 hours a day; it has a large desk to the right and tables and chairs to the left. Facilities accessible via reception include a telephone/fax service, taxi calling service for 0.40cents per call, postal service, money exchange and the opportunity to book excursions (something we chose to do through our holiday rep). Also available at reception is a wake up service which has to be booked a day in advance, a babysitting service which must also be booked in advance, medical assistance, the rental...

Holiday fun at this hotel

...Falesia Hotel The hotel isn't actually in Albufeira but in Acoteias, which is about 15 minutes from the city of Albufeira, 20 minutes from Villamoura and 30-40 minutes from Faro Airport. We booked the holiday through Thomson. This is classed as a Thompson Gold holiday as the hotel is a 4 star. We paid £330 per person for 7 nights half board in the month of April. So was it worth it? Let's see. When we arrived at the hotel, we had to queue up for our rooms to get allocated. The people on the desk were friendly and helpful. The Room The hotels has 170 rooms. I think because I had requested a double bed, our options were limited. We were given a room on the second floor but unlike the rest of the rooms that had keycards, we given keys. Room 211A. The room was nice but seemed to be a lot smaller than the other...

A far cry from the 4 and 5 star hotels I stay in when on business. Remember the latter ? business! When I am paying my own way, it's usually considerably less favourable sleeping establishments involving hard floors, bugs, and occasional rocks! For those of you who don't know me from the site, well, I did set off camping with 7 mates (6 boys and 1 girl) via motorised vehicles, and travelled to a campsite just outside Dortmund in Deutschland for the World Cup. Our 2007 dream or nightmare ?

Advantages: Central location , quiet surroundings , good pool area and snackbar .
Disadvantages: Not 4 star as claimed , noisy at times in the hotel , poor value
